I thought I posted this yesterday but thanks for covering my Neo BT and FX-nvBMP (original project by David Shadoff). All of my BlueRetro adapters are firmware updatable via Bluetooth OTA on a browser. For initial controller pairing, no need to press any buttons on the adapter itself. It's already in the "inquiry mode" with the LED slowly pulsing. Just put your controller into pairing mode (for example on the Dual Sense, hold "create" + "PS" button until the LED rapidly flashes).
I recently bought a pcfx, i love games like zenki, zeroigar, and farland story. I get that its a bad console, but i still enjoy playing it. So happy to see it getting aftermarket hardware suppourt.
Same! When I think of the PC-FX my mind instantly jumps to the Sharp X68000, they are so similar to each other it's hard not to think of one when presented with the other.
Slightly off-topic but regarding the memory card, the Sega Saturn worked the same way. The cartridge worked as a 'backup' cart and any saves have to be moved to the internal storage so they can be used. A backup cart was almost a necessity for the Saturn as otherwise you'd lose everything when changing the CR2032 battery. Since then, mods are available which involves installing non-volatile FRAM chip so no more battery required.
Never noticed how small the PC-FX really is. Every time you see it in images, it looks like this towering device, but in reality it seems to be smaller then an Xbox 360 on it's side. Missed potential that NEC never released it in North America, and in general the console could be labelled as "missed potential" however it's still cool we saw it release at all! Shocked there's a dedicated fanbase for it much, especially people interested in it outside of Japan!
Yup.... never getting a PCFX. Still a cool video though. I don't really want any of these obscure consoles, but I still love watching videos about them.
So unlike the Saturn, this isn't flash memory to my knowledge. And unlike the 3DO, you can access the memory straight from the main menu. The PC-FX didn't do much right but this is one they did okay.
Cool Video never even heard of the PC-FX. Funny you stated Google Translate as i just discovered it works on my Japan Nomad Clone that only plays Japan based Sega Genesis Games. Unfortunately i know have an itch to buy more japan based games due to this translator device in my hand. Damn you Technology!! Now no games or consoles are off limits.
cool to see the review on these! not sure I'll ever have the funds or the room to start collecting PC-FX, but neat to see these new 3rd party peripherals being released for it.
Hey at least NEC & Atari made Sega look competent by comparison! 2D was still immensely popular in Japan through the fifth and sixth generation (I'd argue it would also be popular here if our gaming media in the 90s didn't rag on it around 1995. Looking back so many American magazines were pushing for garbage 3D over quality 2D just because it was 'newer'). This could have been far more popular had NEC not told every dev that didn't want to include FMVs to bug off. It would have never competed with the Saturn and Playstation but I could have seen it out selling the Neo Geo. Shame.
Google Lens translates live, so you dont need to take pictures! :) I played Lupin III on gamecube that way. One hand on the controller, one hand holding the phone, and then playing by looking at my phone as it translates anything that the camera sees
This is impressive to see shame they didn't make a success of the console at the time as their previous Turbo Grafx-16 was a great console killed by a badly mismanaged launch in the west.
I love the aesthetic of the PC-FX, way cooler looking than the PS1 imo. Ive lost a couple auctions so far but eventually i will have a pc engine of my own because that library has some quality titles
An guy named Ro-Bear had this set-up in the retro gaming area of Louisiana Comic Con on 3/9/2024 and 3/10/2024. I never saw that system before; in fact I saw many saying hay Berbil what it this thing?
PC engine was so sucessful, i have no idea how they fucked up the PC-FX launch and Marketing. I wonder if it's design was offputting to the demographic of the day and had anything to do with the general publics rejection of it.
They went hard into FMVs. They basically told companies to only use their system if they had FMV support which severely restricted what devs wanted to get involved.
I hope someone makes an HDMI mod for the PC-FX since S video is only a sight improvement over Composite. Would you recommend the PC-FX? Because I'm tempted to get one.
@@AdamKoralik I see what you mean, and I'm planning on taking a Japanese class to understand Japan exclusive games or if the Japanese version of a game is a lot cheaper than the US version like Blood Will Tell.
Shame this video game console wasn't successful, if it was, maybe it could've gotten released here in the United States as the TurboGrafx 32, if it was a 32 Bit video game console
I have a hard time believing that 2MB would have 'substantially' increased the cost nowadays. It would still be cheaper than having to buy 2 of their memory cards. It more likely has to due with getting 2MB working properly with the PCFX was pain and just not worth it
Ooohhhhhhh Adam ! 😊 , there’s patched ROM images of Street Fighter II Turbo with FM Towns soundtrack for Sega Saturn going around rn! I got my NA / PAL / JP versions already 👐
Had no idea people were developing stuff for the PCFX... It is nice to see it get some love.
Always cool to see obscure consoles getting new accessories
The fact that we live in a time that anyone can make something like this for a rare console is pretty cool actually.
The PCFX is incredibly overlooked . Thank you for talking about it!
No, it really isn’t.

Thanks for making it!
Glad to see PC-FX content from you Adam, and thanks for the shoutout!

Reminds me of the 6800. Such a cool gaming system. Thanks for making a video about it
Same! When I think of the PC-FX my mind instantly jumps to the Sharp X68000, they are so similar to each other it's hard not to think of one when presented with the other.
How are they similar? The PC-FX has only 5 games non Japanese speakers can play.
A NEC PC-FX community made peripherals video. Great news for those that have the system. Great video as usual Adam.

I used my PC-FX the other day chip can kick is still fun to play along with Chosin Heiki Zeroigar. Man that memory card isn’t cheap ugh

It's huge compared to pcengine😏

Great video! Those are definitely cool products for the PC-FX!
Happy to help with a bit of research.

Awesome stuff as always buddy :)

Humble bazooka is awesome! Their sega saturn Bluetooth adapter is top tier shit.
Yes Adam, I'm binge watching man.

Adam made another video about an obscure retro console so of course I'm going to watch it!
Very stylish looking PC.
God bless SNK and Neo Geo and PC-Engine and NEC- may they thrive again.

Strangely, 128kb is the ps1 memory card, divied up into 15 blocks, of which Diablo 1 needs 10.
The VMU also has 128kb, but only lets you use 100.
The PCFX looks cool. It reminds me so much of the PSX.

Unbelievable seems every rare console someone is making some accessorie for it I have a retrotink mini and 5x just wish the 4k wasn't so expensive
CAX is smiling from his home upon high so that we may all experience lewd fmv games
I know you want a Jaguar just to play that Highlander game on the CD.

Watch, liked and gonna comment on a video about a subject I care nought!… but for those four people who do care, this is for you!
I wonder if these would work with the PC-FX pc addon card LGR did a video on some years ago?
Clicks on video because I love this guy's content even though I have never owned....nor plan to own any NEC console.
You the real MVP.
i saw one recently when i was in tokyo along side a broken virtualboy. i wanted the virtualboy so bad
Heard the story with it was that they thought the future was still 2D, similar to Saturn. Curious of what i could've done if it took off 🤔
Not just 2D but lots of FMV and video.
Very cool!
Time for a haircut my man 🎉🎉
I hope someone makes an HDMI mod for the PC-FX since S video is only a sight improvement over Composite. Would you recommend the PC-FX? Because I'm tempted to get one.
I mean ... that's really your call. It's a very limited console without liking FMV content and being able to speak/read Japanese.

100 bucks for the memory card is a bit tooo much. 50 for the dongle ain’t bad.

Just telling you what I was told.
Ooohhhhhhh Adam ! 😊 , there’s patched ROM images of Street Fighter II Turbo with FM Towns soundtrack for Sega Saturn going around rn! I got my NA / PAL / JP versions already 👐
Too bad there's no PC-FX version.
More cool stuff nice 😎 👍
I am such a nerd for watching this LOL
Rip toriyama
The memory card has the same function as sega saturn
