    Two things I would recommend to save time. A - when making the armature you could cut the work time in half by making the bones on the left side of the body, naming them, highlighting them and hitting symmetrize to create the properly named bones on the other side of the body. And B - you could cut your animation work time in half by after copy pasting the first frame, right clicking and selecting "paste flipped," on frame 8. Thank you for making this!

    FYI
    3:52, you say Ctrl + J (correct) but have Shift + J shown on the screen. Screencast Keys add-on might save you some editing work. Not as pretty, but more accurate. ;)
    10:42 Easy Automation: Select the bones you posed, select the end keyframes, Ctrl + C to copy, move to the middle frame, and Shift + Ctrl + V to paste flipped (mirrored).

    For anyone who may run into scaling issues, with there objects being to small. Or big, you can try setting your unit scales in blender to 0.01, then resizing your mesh/armature using a measuring tool as reference. Also, if you character is not facing the correct direction, while exporting, make sure to set the forward axis to X. And up to Z. :)

    I am stuck on the part where you connect the bones to the mesh. I followed the video the best that I could but when I try to move my arms around, it pulls the bones out of the mesh and makes my entire player model start moving.

    • @Kekdot
      @Kekdot  3 года назад +1

      That probably means that the Automatic Weights aren’t being applied correctly by Blender. That can happen on more complex meshes which requires more manual weight painting. This is something that can be fixed by selecting the armature and the mesh and going into weight painting mode. And then in the Vertex panel on the right you can see your Vertex groups. Here you can assign you weights manually. I will be uploading a weight painting video in the future. In the meantime you should try finding weight painting tutorial videos. Hope you can fix it!

    • @javickjochkmak1267
      @javickjochkmak1267 3 года назад

      I have followed your process 100% the same, and have redone this process over 10 times, but the bones never work right. Left Arm pulls chest, left arm pulls left leg, left leg pulls right leg, chest, and left arm. Since I have followed your guide 100% the same as you, I don't understand why we are having different outcomes.... I give up.

      @@javickjochkmak1267 I am also having the issue where the arm bone is pulling on the body. Could you explain how you fixed this? Did you simply re-paint the weights? Or was it a step that was missed? I am in the same boat.

    • @sinantenekeci9472
      @sinantenekeci9472 2 года назад

      I had the same issue, but after an hour I figured out what caused that. When I took a closer look on a mesh in edit mode, I saw overlapping faces and causing "z-fighting". I think I made a mistake while using mirror modifier. Although I deleted overlapping extra faces, had the same issue. Since I changed stuff in "Weight Paint Mode" which I am not familiar with at all, I started over the model without using mirror modifier and it worked as ecpected.

    Hi I have a problem when exporting my Character. I followed all the steps but when I drag my character from my desktop to Unreal Engine, the chest is hollow. I went back to blender but there everything was fine. I don't understand what I did wrong can you help me?
    also, are you Dutch? If so: hallo! ^^

    • @Kekdot
      @Kekdot  3 года назад +2

      If you mean by hollow that the chest is see through or inverted, then that would mean that your normals are inverted.
      You can fix this in Blender by selecting all your model’s faces in edit mode, and then in the top left corner click on Mesh -> Normals -> Recalculate outside. This should then fix your normals :) And ofcourse reexport your model.
      And yes we’re Dutch haha. Hallo, alles goed met jou? 🇳🇱

    After importing the character to UE4, everything looks fine except that the arms are moving like the animation but on a completely different angle. It looks like the bones are moving like they should but the arms themselves are at a different angle then they are in blender so what could be the problem? Edit: When viewing the .fbx file with microsoft 3d viewer, the arms are also at an angle so it isn't something to do with unreal.

    Question about the 4:00 mark, when you talk about Cube guy floating and we wanna move him to the red X line. Is there a particular reason why you're dragging him down in edit mode as opposed to object mode? Would it not be easier to just do it in object mode?

    • @namrog84
      @namrog84 2 года назад +1

      Doing so would have moved the pivot point which was still at 0,0,0. If it was left in Object Mode when moved, then that would have needed to have been fixed afterwards.
