    We're fishing Port Hughes jetty on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia looking to catch a feed. We target squid, whiting, tommy ruff (Australian Herring), and even the elusive Yellowtail Kingfish.
    The Port Hughes Jetty offers a large array of fishing opportunities for beginners to experienced anglers. It is a fishing hotspot on the northwestern coast of the Yorke Peninsula.
    This fishing video has a lot of tips and tricks and fishing techniques and we share several squid catches and a surprise hook-up with a cuttlefish who ends up taking a souvenir with him.
    Jetty fishing at Port Hughes is a great opportunity with a general store at the start of the jetty, public toilets and food.

    Good stuff mate! I always prefer Moonta bay for camping and fishing trips off the jetty, pt Hughes is just south, then wallaroo jetty is just north prefer both but just my preference, ardrossan I’ve been fishing in my yak and hooked about a 1mtr kingy but broke me off, saw it come grab the bait and take off but my line just wasn’t strong enough, wasn’t prepped for them, but had a go when saw them in the water, barley is always the number 1 biggest help when fishing that I think lots of new fishers underestimate, and if ur taking ur kids, set up with barley and some small hooks, maybe some live gents and h should catch fish, small fish like Tommy’s and gar are great fun and can be the difference between kids enjoying fishing or thinking it’s boring and wanting an iPad 😂🍻👊😊

    I remember 1 day fishing of wallaroo jetty, there was hundreds of squid, crystal clear water, was dropping all kinds of jigs of all colours on em and they just weren’t hungry 😂 some days just unlucky, I think barometric pressure can influence fish, making them more or less hungry in certain days, and squid can be finicky about colours, but yeah that day was so frustrating they were just hanging out barely swimming just hundreds of would move when the jigs almost landed on top of em but otherwise nothing 😂😂😩

    Mate! Keep up the videos, love your work. Another fella mentioned it but yeah salt the cockles. They stay on the hook better. Grab a bag of them, shell them onto some news paper, and sprinkle some salt on them. Let them dry for an hour or so then put them in a Tupperware container. Sprinkle a bit more salt on the top. Also for the big squid/cuttle fish get your self a crab net and you can use that to retrieve them as opposed to pulling them up by the line

    • @MattsFishingEscapes
      @MattsFishingEscapes  2 месяца назад

      Sure. Some we're caught on teasers, others on straight jigging. I cast and let it sink for 6-10s, depending how deep you're in. You want to be as close to the bottom but not getting weed or snagged. Then give some aggressive flicks 2 or 3 times. Let it sink for about 3 - 7 seconds. Rinse and repeat. Squid generally grab it on the float down. Then when you flick you'll feel the weight and pulsing of the squid. #tightlines
