    the thing about "Antifa" is there is no such thing as Antifa, it's literally a catch all term for anti-fascist groups with some minor symbol standardisation, people (okay, Americans) often call established groups like the UAF (Unite Against Fascism), who are a continuation of the older Anti-Nazi League and have support from MP's of all 3 major political parties in Parliament and organisations like the Trade Union Congress, "Antifa", so when people use the term "Antifa" to refer to anti-fascist activists they normally don't know what they're talking about

    • @FakeSchrodingersCat
      @FakeSchrodingersCat 5 лет назад +17

      Yes but the right wing doesn't even try to differentiate between Antifa and the Black Block. Since most of the violence they blame on Antifa is actually the Block I guess that makes sense from their perspective.

    • @charliedawson4877
      @charliedawson4877 5 лет назад +10

      Calling Antifa an organisation is like calling Buddhism a religion. It's a belief, like capitalism doesn't have a HQ or a boss. Cause it's just a general idea.

    • @FakeSchrodingersCat
      @FakeSchrodingersCat 5 лет назад +25

      Charlie Dawson
      Buddhism is a religion with a couple of variations and it does not have the strict hierarchy of Christianity but the beliefs are codified. I would also say Capitalism is not a good example either, being if anything too far in the other direction where it is too abstract yet complex a concept to be analogous. A better analogy would be that antifa is a single organization in the same way as Protestantism is a single religion. Meaning Protestantism it is a loose collection of religions grouped together under a label by a single common trait ie being against Catholicism, while Antifa is a loose collection of organizations sharing the common trait of being against fascism.

    I would like to see a more historical take on the Holodomor and its denialists in the Stalinist camp. As a leftist, I find myself at odds with a lot of the pro-Stalin memes from the 'Tankie' side of things. Since you've pointed out that you're poised against the enemies of Democracy (Right or Left) it may be a good opportunity to educate on the realities of actually existing communism. I'm of the opinion that Western propaganda has distorted history so far against the communist left that people reject any criticism of communist regimes as western propaganda, and end up endorsing very problematic world-views (that in reality they probably wouldn't agree with) as a result.

      I know I’m very late, but I just want to say that the idea and optimism of a socialistic economy is a very effective way of getting megalomaniacs into power. That’s why I hate when “socialist” states use words that they do not implement. Which gives the impression to regular people that THAT is socialism. No, so far it’s only helped psychopaths have control over a people. Not very socialist.

    • @gloopsgloops
      @gloopsgloops 4 года назад +1

      @Luis D. What do you mean "that IS socialism?" Megalomaniacs getting into power? That is just plain false. And you describe some vague "socialist policies" leading to a country deteriorating. Elaborate please. Funny that you exclude China, not sure why you would do that.
      Look, all countries have problems, but socialistic countries (especially smaller ones which rely heavily on outside trade) in particular are hamstrung by the capitalist world at large not even giving them a chance and installing a capitalist puppet when the time presents itself.
      The dictators need to go. But saying socialist economics causes megalomania is non sequitur.

    if they’re a Dostoevsky person or a Tolstoy person.
    Personally,

    actually i -would- like to see your concise debunking the idiotic but 'sticky' idea prevalent in the U.S. that "socialism" and "National Socialism' are nearly the same thing.. because they share the same word.
    "It's so obvious i don't even have to think!"

    i think you'd do a great job.
    and in a German accent.

    • @ashevillecat
      @ashevillecat 4 года назад +9

      Part of the issue is that, in the US, the word socialism has become synonymous with big government/tax and spend programs. Americans tend to be SO ignorant on Marxist ideology, they really think Marx was all about centralized economic planning rather than worker control of the means of production, and they can't even conceptualize a difference there. This is, of course, due in large part to Marxist-Leninist and subsequent Communist thought and state structures. Hence Communism and National Socialism are big government programs so they are all "socialism" (in their minds, anyway). Americans also tend to be ignorant on history (they were taught that America is, and always was, exceptional in every way) and they do not understand why the word socialism was included in the Nazi party nomenclature, assuming that there must be some authenticity to it, but any scholar of history knows that there was pretty much nothing authentic about Nazi ideology.

      Wow. And I was being sarcastic.
      Yes, there are and were real Marxists--people who believed in and followed the refined principles of envy and hatred that Marx wrote down (but did not develop; typical of a socialist, all his ideas were stolen). Karl Marx is one of them.
      I suggest you read basic history and economics.
      Marx' dependence on genocide is nothing new, and it's no surprise that those who followed in his footsteps agreed with him that some people--generally classes or races of people--would never be good socialists and would have to be wiped out. Even in theory, communism was always one more murder away from utopia.

    As far as the question of platforming other creators goes, my view is that so long as the other creator is bigger or around the same size and/or has a larger or around the same influence, then it is ok to talk about them and their videos/views. When a big channel talks about a smaller channel however it is more likely to significantly increase the amount of attention and support the smaller channel gets.

      Oh and finally I do also want to recommend Sebastian Haffner's "Geschichte eines Deutschen", in case you haven't read it. It's a super interesting autobiographical look at a young man growing up alongside the rising Nazis and doesn't deal with upper-level politics but how it affected him in his personal life.

    Human perspective is the most interesting thing in my opinion honestly. To truly get a decent understanding of anti-fa I feel like you would have to talk to each of them individually, because in the end it’s a bunch of people with different perspectives rising up for one reason - they’re all against fascism.

      Yeah, but sometimes you have to take a step back, and look at them as well because I've heard that same argument come from the alt-right. "You have to talk to these people individually to find out what they're about" but when they all loop arms with someone who shouts "Jews will not replace us" it's a bit different.
      I personally had to admit that if it came to me enacting violence at a counter-protest, or a Neo-Nazi rally going up and down the Las Vegas strip (my home city) I'd probably sooner throw a brick.

    Why does the symbol of the Identitarian movement look like Overwatch?

    • @paperbackwriter1111
      @paperbackwriter1111 6 лет назад +23

      Because it's an offshoot from the symbol used on Spartan shields and both Blizzard-Activision and Generation Identitaire think that the reference to the most important military force in the war against the Persians is useful - for Overwatch because it's simple and iconic and everyone loves Ancient Greece and for the Identitarians all of that, but also because they like to position themselves as defenders of White Europe against an invading force of foreigners, but maybe don't want to do it in an explicitly Christian way, like, say, Hungary's current government does.

    I didn't get a chance to ask a question but I wanted to know if you've read much Marx, Kropotkin or any other forms of leftist writing and, if so, what do you think of what you've seen so far.
    Also just re: people who want to "destroy democracy", I'm a libertarian marxist myself and I do believe that current liberal democracy should be overhauled specifically because I believe that our current elections are undemocratic. I personally am a massive proponent of democracy, it's a fundamental belief of mine and I oppose western democracy specifically because of that belief. In my opinion, political engagement should be encouraged far more on the local level as well as in the work force. What are your thoughts on workplace democracy?

      PANTSMONSTER yeah?

    • @MideoKuze
      @MideoKuze 6 лет назад +5

      That's technically true, however the inevitable conclusion of Marxist analysis must be towards something that could be called "democratic", in that management of any shared resource in the hands of the working class cannot be in the hands of the working class if it is actually in the hands of certain individuals unaccountable to the workers. Marx is just not very concerned with a particular democratic structure for the whole world, and it would be elaborations on Marx that endeavoured to describe exactly what form socialism would take. Regrettably, some of the most successful and resilient schemes resulted in less-than-complete projects of collectivization, and an effective replacement of the capitalist class by a barely accountable "workers' state" which did not greatly change relations of production. Meanwhile, more profound successes of socialism were and continue to be crushed. "What is to be done?" remains a question continuing to want for an answer.

      Negromancer Maybe YOU live in a "constitutional republic" but the world isn't the USA. Also: this is classic nitpicker smartassery that diverts from the actual conversation. When people talk about democracy- as in, a representative system where the populace gets to elect their leaders into a parliament- or senate, or congress or whatever- we know what they're talking about. Banging on about the USA being a "constitutional republic" misses the point of the conversation entirely.

    I just wanted to tell you how I found this channel-
    I found it in Gregory Sadler's subscriptions.
    I had my eyes on Gregory's channel for quite a while but didn't find an excuse to dive into the relatively dry (in comparison with other RUclipsrs) videos.
    I found that excuse when Ollie from philosophy tube mentioned Gregory Sadler while talking about Ollie's then upcoming Hegel video.
    I had been a bit hyped about the Hegel video because I had watched a lot many videos about Lacan and Zizek.
    And why Zizek? RUclips recommended Zizek videos a lot below Jordan Peterson videos!
    Why Jordan Peterson? Well he's a good talker if not anything else, and I hadn't looked at things from perspective of pop psychology before that so it was fascinating (hence the latter interest in Lacan).

    • @augustoalmeida8022

      Well, the SPD had quite the share of politicians involved in bargaining with fascists. This stance was heavier during the initial Weirmar Republic, with SPD members helping the Freikorps and ordering the execution of Rosa Luxembourg. Some of the SPD member also went for a non responsive stance towards fascism.
      Now, this might be a biased comment due to the fact of I being a social Democrat myself, but I think SPD quite lost its social democratic ideology when it got on this “catch em’ all” stance, sacrificing important ideological concepts to remain in power.

    The Russian Pavlovist psychologist Serge Chakhotin (French spelling of his name) took some credit for inventing the three arrows for The Iron Front, in his book _Rape of the Masses._
    As a German-American, I would like to know what a German with your beliefs thinks about the justice of doing more to help the German settler communities in Central and Eastern Europe. Some of my family settled in Galicia and in Slovakia under the Tatras, but many that didn't emigrate to Pennsylvania from the Palatine (Pfalz) are still living in the Rheinland in areas where a dialect of German (Mainz-Deitsch) is spoken that's very close not only to Pennsylfaanisch Deitsch, but also to Yiddish, which I can occasionally understand myself when it is spoken.
