What a facinating and modest guy. Great interview / discussion and such a pleasure to be shown all those beautiful guitars and to hear the stories behind them!
Still remember when Phil "became" the alternative version of Lister in Red Dwarf, episode "Psirens"......my god he played the guitar with his arms through Craig Charles' underarms, without SEEING the guitar, and shredded like you wouldn't believe! Phil is a guitar god!
I got into his solo albums when a friend found those records in a farmhouse he was renting. Then came 801. Then I wanted to know more about the awesome bass player on those records, and I learned about Bill McCormick, which then led me to Random Hold. Thanks for the music Phil. They weren't just good albums, they were incredible!
Absolutely fascinating conversation, thanks so much for this! I've enjoyed Phil's music for decades. I love Firebirds too, Gibson's only neckthrough model. I think the wings are mahogany...neckthrough is mahogany/walnut?
Great discussion! I loved Roxy, bought the albums when they came out and was starting my own band then - I had a WEM Copycat, still have my '68 Custom! That Firebird, wow! Surely it would be fun to get a guitar tech to set up a 5 way Strat style pick-up selector - such a beautiful instrument.
I remember the ad in the back of the Melody Maker,a white strat with EXP on the back of it. Phoned the number and it was gone. A Hendrix strat for under £200. You can see him playing it on videos back in the day.
A wonderful player, tasteful, melodic and just spot on, his name is not well known but it should be-what's up with his throat he can't stop clearing i?
I am very curious to know, how he made the guitar sounds in Listen Now, sounds more like a synth than a guitar, like the solo on That Falling Feeling, Law and Order or Island.
There is a tremolo arm missing on the non reverse. Hence the big space. No offence intended Phil but I've been playing as long as you and know my guitars. Any way it was a really interesting video and I thank you for sharing your memories with us older guitar players.
Listen everyone, this man is one of best guitarists ever! His work (both solo and with Roxy) is marvellous!!!
What a facinating and modest guy. Great interview / discussion and such a pleasure to be shown all those beautiful guitars and to hear the stories behind them!
His signature licks are so simple but sooo effective at the same time! Amazing musician.
So glad Phil explained the origin of the crazy sounds he got on Amazona - my favorite from that album.
What a wonderful guy Phil is. Thanks for a great interview 🙏🏻 love his playing over the years, extremely talented guy.
Phil is one of my favorites for guitar, thanks for all the memories your music has brought back ❤Cheers Thanks
Great interview! Always loved Roxy Music and Phil’s tasteful guitar playing. He also goes pretty wild on ‘Gun’ on John Cale’s 1974 ‘Fear’ album!

Wonderful. Thank you Phil and Guitarist.
I had that 801 Live album. Very cool. He's such an underrated guitarist in my opinion.

Im so glad he pulled out the non reverse .. I loved seeing it on the back cover of the Roxy Live album..
Great Video, Thankyou.🎸
Love the Firebird guitars.

that mic picks up anything and everything with astonishing sharpness doesn't it?
His coughing and swallowing is driving me nuts 😅 i cant watch it.
@@robbielane9667 Same here! Very unfortunate as I'm a huge fan.
Had to switch off. Made me feel sick. Shame as I really wanted to watch it
yes... help
I bought my first strat 69 ,from Bells 😊😊😊

Lovely Firebird. Perhaps the young boy wanted a non-reverse?
Phil ,never underestimate your influence on music, its the Guy playing..Or Brian noodling.

You can see 3 mounting holes that have been plugged.
what is the intro song phil is playing?
I think the guitar tech was Sam Lee.
Sam ruined my SG Standard.
I like cheap guitars.
