Loup-Garou Review, Walibi Belgium Vekoma Wood Coaster | Oldest Wood Coaster in Belgium

- Loup-Garou at Walibi Belgium is a rare Vekoma wood coaster. It's the oldest one still remaining and it's the oldest operating coaster in Belgium as well. This is a popular RMC candidate considering Walibi Holland transformed their similar Vekoma woodie in Robin Hood into Untamed, but Loup-Garou still has some solid airtime.

I really don't understand why people dislike this ride. I thought the airtime, laterals and finale of this ride were extremely underrated. I didn't think it was rough either.
I enjoyed it too.
When I saw a POV of this, specifically coaster studios one, I was blown away. It easily looked like one of the most underated coasters of all time. Maybe it was running fast in that POV. It was a way longer ride than I thought and had absolutely tons and tons of airtime. What insanity it is.
The back had some sweet airtime.
a lot of people want to see this thing RMC'd, but to be honnest i'd prefer a retrack and just slight adjustment of the ride. Just to make the airtime, laterals and pacing a little better but stil keeping the same feeling, look and layout as how it is now.
A retrack would work.
Although an enjoyable ride, I wouldn’t mind it being RMCd. It certainly has potential and the turn arounds make for some great elements like underflips. I can see it happening, especially with Untamed in mind and the fact WB still has money left from the Kondaa expansion. I do think they’ll wait until after WH gets the raptor though. But imagine the wait times then, especially with it being one of the first rides you see when entering the park.
RMC has proven any ride can have potential in their hands.
Even though it'd be nice to see what RMC could do with this, I'd be rather sad to see a rare Vekoma Woodie go down.
I think this ride will be Rmcd someday. Or maybe Titan Tracked? More bumper than Wildebeast and Minebuster? Looks it.
There's a chance it gets RMCed.
I think that if it got also the gravity group trains like thundercoaster at tusenfryd did, and would get trackwork on some of the rough parts it could become a very enjoyable ride.
I got a headache after riding thundercoaster in the back with GG trains. Its still rough af, not that rough in the front tho,
Trackwork could help.
I disagree that new trains would be a good idea. The current padded, roomy trains are frankly what keeps the ride from being bad.
@@milczix777 yes that’s very true, it should get rmcd
I'd much rather have the trains from Loup Garou on Thundercoaster. Man the Gravity Group trains are a bad match for that ride! They are lighter and follow the tracks more precisely, which means the ride runs too slow and you feel al the bumps through the not well padded seats. One of the saddest coasters I've been on since the layout itself is brilliant!
I visited the Park a few days ago and got 2 very entertaining rides in the last row. For me Loup-Garou hits that perfect sweetspot of entertaining roughness. Really fun coaster and between Robin Hood and this one, Loup-Garou is the better ride for sure.
As for it getting RMC´d, I strongly believe that it could be the next larger ride investment the Park will see. They had / have plans to retheme the entrance area into a New Orleans / Voodoo theme and depending on where exactly they do this or how far they want to stretch that into the Park, I can easily see a RMC Version of this be the main attraction for that area.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thinking about layout, Fly at Canada's Wonderland and Coast Rider at Knott's Berry Farm are two Mack wild mouse coasters. Those two are from the large park model.
Yes
In 2001, Six Flags Belgium had four Vekoma coasters, the Vekoma mine train in Calamity Mine, the Vekoma SLC in Vampire, the Vekoma boomerang in Cobra, and the Vekoma woodie in Loup Garou. Many found Calamity Mine as a fine ride, but they found Cobra, Vampire and Loup Garou as rough, but what were the differences between them in roughness or smoothness?
Most said:
A) Calamity Mine and Loup Garou were rough, Vampire and Cobra were smooth.
B) Calamity Mine was fine, Cobra had some headbanging, Vampire was awful and had lots of headbanging, Loup Garou was bumpy.
C) Calamity Mine was awful, Cobra was janky, Vampire and Loup Garou had some shuffling but mostly smooth.
D) Vampire was smooth, but Calamity Mine, Cobra, and Loup Garou had some rougher spots, most notably the valleys.

About Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium, Canobie Coaster would say:
Loup Garou is one of the few wood coasters Vekoma ever built and one of two still remaining. Located at Walibi Belgium, I hadn't heard too much about this ride going into my visit. I feared that was a bad thing. I thought it would be an uncomfortable mess. But...
I found it fun and tolerable.
100% agree. Like so many times. I was rather surprised of CS oppinion on this.
I genuinely liked it.
In 2001, Six Flags Belgium had four Vekoma coasters, the Vekoma mine train in Calamity Mine, the Vekoma SLC in Vampire, the Vekoma boomerang in Cobra, and the Vekoma woodie in Loup Garou. Did most like all those four? Did most find or consider all those four as smooth or as rough? What were the differences in smoothness or roughness between them? What do you think?
Calamity Mine:
Vampire:
Cobra:
Loup Garou:
Calamity Mine is mostly fine. Cobra has some headbanging. Vampire has lots of headbanging. Loup Garou is pretty bumpy.
And to reride, Vampire, the Vekoma SLC at Walibi Belgium, I think it has snappy inversions. But what do you think about the Vekoma SLC and the Vekoma wooden coaster?
The SLC is painful. The wood coaster is fun.
So, what do you think about the first half turns and valleys on Thundercoaster, a bit rougher or way rougher than Loup Garou?
They are rougher than the worst parts of Loup Garou.
So in which countdown video of the ones made in 2020 and early 2021 would you have placed it?
Maybe surprising.
I saw a recently made review video about a hill wooden coaster that said:
It's rough but it has good spots of airtime
Which one?
Six Flags Belgium had four Vekoma coasters, Calamity Mine, Vampire, Cobra, and Loup Garou. Which models were those four coasters?
Vampire is an SLC, Cobra is a boomerang, Loup Garou is a woodie, and Calamity Mine is a mine train.
Which seats do you like more, the Timberliner seats or the original Vekoma seats?
I can't say for sure since both trains have their pros and cons. I like both train designs.
Would you like to see Loup Garou converted into RMC or do you like the current Loup Garou?
I'd be fine with either. The RMC would be better, but I do like Loup Garou as is.
And between Vampire, Cobra and Loup Garou, did most find or consider them to be equally as rough?
Vampire is the roughest.
In the back car, what do you think about row 10, row 11, and row 12?
12 is bumpier than the others, but all 3 seats have good airtime.
If you would have ridden Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium first in 2018 or 2019, in which countdown video of the ones made in 2020 and early 2021 would you have placed it?
Not sure if it would have made any of them.
What do you think about Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium and Coaster Express at Parque Warner Madrid in bumpiness?
Coaster Express is way worse, but both are bumpy.
Canobie Coaster would say: I suspect this ride may get the RMC treatment in the future, but the current form still offers an enjoyable experience that I believe makes it the second best coaster at this Belgian theme park. Just avoid those wheel seats. Although I can't deny another Untamed would be a vast improvement. That and...
A) Tiki Waka
B) Kondaa
C) Pulsar
would be a legendary 1-2 punch, that no park could top.

At Walibi Belgium, there are four Vekoma coasters, Calamity Mine, Vampire, Cobra, and Loup Garou. Which model are those four coasters?
And to ride, what do you think about each of the four?
What do you think?
Calamity Mine- mine train, decent
Cobra- boomerang, ok
Loup Garou- wood, good
Vampire- SLC, awful
The train looks like a mix between a gci, Morgan and ptc
It really does.
Canobie Coaster would say:
Loup Garou is one of the few wood coasters Vekoma ever built and one of two still remaining. Located at Walibi Belgium, I hadn't heard too much about the ride going into my visit. I feared that was a bad thing. I thought it would be...
A) a comfortable experience.
B) an uncomfortable mess.
But I'm pleased to say it wasn't. In fact, it was...
A) much worse than expected.
B) slightly worse than expected.
C) much better than expected.
D) slightly better than expected.
B and probably C.
See in RCDB:
Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium
Hell Cat at Clementon Park
Coaster Express at Parque Warner Madrid
So how would you compare between those three wooden coasters in terms of pacing, smoothness, and seat padding? What do you think?
See my reviews for them.
I like the current wooden coaster with the current track and trains
Ok good.
Canobie Coaster would say: So what would I rate the oldest wood coaster still operating in Belgium? I would give Loup Garou a 7 out of 10. It's probably a bit better in the back, but worse in other rows. What this ride does well, it does really well. This ride has some really nice airtime. Everyone comes out of their seats on the camelbacks and bunny hills, but those in back also gets some potent airtime off the turnarounds. This coaster does have two flaws though. The biggest one is that it is very bumpy. The trains do make the coaster tolerable in most rows, but it's impossible to ignore how much it shakes you about. Two, the pacing isn't perfect. While the hills and drops are fun, the ride loses some speed and power on the turns and final helix. I suspect this ride may get the RMC treatment in the future, but the current form still offers an enjoyable experience that I believe makes it the second best coaster at this Belgian theme park. Just avoid those wheel seats. Although I can't deny another Untamed would be a vast improvement. That and Kondaa would be...
A great 1-2 punch.
Many enthusiasts liked Calamity Mine, but did most guests and enthusiasts like the other rides, Vampire, Cobra, and Loup Garou? What do you think?
Loup Garou is still popular, but people can find those 3 rough.
How many cars and rows are there in the train on Loup Garou?
4 cars, 3 rows per car.
Loup Garou, the Vekoma wooden coaster, opened in 2001 when the park was...
A) Walibi Belgium
B) Six Flags Belgium
C) Walibi Wavre

Usually, do you like both sensations, smooth sensation and bumpy sensation? What do you think, Canobie Coaster?
Like both
Prefer smooth
Prefer bumpy
Prefer smooth
Asking about bumpy with you, Canobie Coaster, I know a CCI wooden coaster also in Europe. And you?
Yes Stampida
I was asking you, did you find both Loup Garou and Thundercoaster to be tolerable?
Yes, but Thundercoaster is pushing it.
What are the differences between janky, jerky, bumpy, rough and shaky?
All types of roughness.
Was Lightning Rod at Dollywood rougher than Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium?
No
Loup garou at walibi belgium:
Once dispatched, you turn right and ascend the lift hill. Once reach the top comes the first drop. What do you think about the drop, and the valley after the first drop?
I cover that in the review.
What do you think about Loup Garou, the Vekoma wooden coaster at Walibi Belgium, rough or enjoyable?
It's shaky, but I enjoy the ride.
What are the differences between rough and bumpy?
Bumpy is bouncing roughness. Rough is broader.
What are the differences between "rough" and "bumpy"?
They can go hand in hand.
Shuffling is a type of roller coaster roughness. On Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium, what do you think about shuffling?
It's better if a ride doesn't shuffle.
I like the current track and trains
I like the trains as well.
What do you think about the smoothness or the roughness of:
Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium
Cobra at Walibi Belgium
Vampire at Walibi Belgium
Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Over Georgia
Thunderhawk at Michigan's Adventure
Goliath at Six Flags Great America
Demon at Six Flags Great America
Invertigo at Kings Island
Untamed at Canobie Lake Park
Outside of Goliath, all of those have some degree of roughness.
What were the differences between "some headbanging", "lots of headbanging", and "bumpy"?
Some versus lots discusses the quantity of headbanging.
This is one of the worst wooden rollercoasters i have ever ridden in my opinion. I think I may have just had a bad ride. The restraints were very uncomfortable
This is the worst coaster I’ve ever ridden. Worse than condor at walibi holland.
I held onto the restraints after they were checked. Didn't find them uncomfortable.
If it does get rmcd...make the first turnaround a giant banked wave turn
I hope.
@@CanobieCoaster and what I mean by wave turn I mean ur turning while in the wave turn
I’m suprised it hasn’t been rmc since its sister coaster Robin Hood has, weird though.
This ride is popular, but I'd welcome an RMC.
Thinking about layout, in Spain there is a wooden coaster that Canobie Coaster would say:
Bad layout.
Yes, Coaster Express.
This looks more like a classic CCI than a Vekoma
I remember this!
True!
What do you think about Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium, the first drop and the subsequent valley?
It has a lot of shuffling, but the seats are well padded.
Was Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium the roughest coaster for you in the world?
No
Canobie Coaster said:
Yes, but Thundercoaster is pushing it. What does that mean?
Thundercoaster has some very bumpy turns that aren't comfortable.
I think some people found the ride on Loup Garou rough. And you, Canobie Coaster?
I found it bouncy, but tolerable.
What means "subsequent valley"?
Next pullout.
What do you think about the experiences of:
Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium
Thunderhead at Dollywood
Anaconda at Kings Dominion
Blue Hawk at Six Flags Over Georgia
Goudurix at Parc Asterix
Scream at Six Flags Magic Mountain
Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland
Stampida at Port Aventura
Batman the Ride at Six Flags Over Texas
Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point
Like all of those.
I like this ride
Me too.
Rough is broader, what does broader mean?
More encompassing.
is a strong contender, what does that mean?
Leading candidate.
Robin Hood at Walibi Holland had some fantastic airtime also especially in the back car. I wish you could have ridden it. I agree that Untamed is way better but I wish Robin Hood could still exist cause it was really fun
The success of Untamed is why I think this ride could be touched too.
@@CanobieCoaster I agree
If the wooden coasters would remain as wooden, would you like?
Wilde Beast at Canada's Wonderland
Mighty Canadian Minebuster at Canada's Wonderland
Bandit at Movie Park Germany
Stampida at Port Aventura
Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium
Bandit and Minebuster are the two I'd want to see converted most.
I saw in POVs I like this wooden coaster and these trains
I like the trains too.
Funny a coaster from around 2000 is the oldest woodie in Belgium
Europe doesn't have nearly as many woodies as the US.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah they are very rare around here
What do you think about:
Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium
Calamity Mine at Walibi Belgium
Twisted Cyclone at Six Flags Over Georgia
Mighty Canadian Minebuster at Canada's Wonderland
Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Over Georgia
Judge Roy Scream at Six Flags Over Texas
Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa
Bat at Kings Island
Tomahawk at Port Aventura
Most of those are good.
At Walibi Belgium, do you like Vampire, Cobra, and Loup Garou?
Not Vampire
I think some found Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium an uncomfortable ride. And you, Canobie Coaster?
I like it.
And did most people and enthusiasts find all roller coasters in Belgium to be tolerable? Which ones did not? What do you think?
Vampire is a bad one, but most are fine.
Impossible to ignore, what means?
Cannot miss.
What was the worst layout you have ever seen on a wooden coaster in the world?
Coaster Express is a strong contender.
I'm referring to thundercoaster
What about it?
Due to the layout of this ride, I'd rather see it get the Ghostrider Treatment. That coaster was saved by GCI and I'd hate to see one of the last Wood Coasters go.
That's fair! I just wonder if the success of Untamed makes them go the RMC approach one day.
How many coasters did you find in the world to be bumpy? Examples:
Too many to list. See my worst coasters video for examples.
Would you like to go again to Walibi Belgium?
Yes
Some people found Loup Garou to be rougher than Vampire
Not me.
I would like to remain Loup Garou as a wooden coaster
I'd prefer an RMC but I do like the ride as is.
Walibi Holland in the same chain RMC'd their Vekoma wood coaster, it's true. But what should also be in the conversation is that Parc Astérix belongs to the same chain, so a partial Gravity Group retrack like Zeus should at least be on the discussion table as a possibilty. I can't see Loup-Garou last very long in its current state either way. Walibi Belgium is a park with real ambitions and I still can't think of a more likely RMC candidate in Europe.
The biggest RMC candidates for me in Europe are Bandit and Coaster Express.
@@CanobieCoaster The best candidates, sure. Not the most likely, I don't think.
Is this a re-upload?
No, it's a new review.
@@CanobieCoaster oh Northern Rides recently made a review of this too, that's why I thought I already saw this.
My spine was at a 90 degree angle after I rode this, no idea what happened on your rides on this piece of junk! XD
I also have a high tolerance for shaky woodies.
this is the worst wooden roller coaster i have ever been on
Canobie Coaster would say:
Loup-Garou them culminates with this awkward helix. It's a 360 degree upwards helix. It's bumpy, slow, and forceless, which is not a combination the ride should strive for.
You said "forceless". Imagine experiencing forceless helixes and forceful helixes. Usually, what do you prefer, forceless or forceful? What do you think?
I usually prefer forceful.
