    I agree with everything except for the part about having a drummer adjust their kit during a recording session. It's our job as the recording engineer to make it work to get the best performance possible, and having a drummer switch things around day of generally means the performance won't be as good as it could have been. Ideally, yes, set up a kit that best serves the mics, but I'll never ask a drummer setting up in my studio to start changing things.

    You can even open the thread of the 57... so you dont need so much backspace... behind the mic and the hats. there are even 90degree adapters on the market so you can turn your 57 into a pretty short mike... i'm thinking about a budget version better, safer and cleaner than duct tape but less expensive than what I found on the net so far
