  • The Hôtel Lambert, built in the early 1640s and located on the secluded Île Saint-Louis in the heart of Paris, is the most staggeringly beautiful private residence in the city.
This palatial private house was decorated by the artistic visionaries behind the Palace of Versailles, architect Louis Le Vau, and painters Charles Le Brun and Eustache Le Sueur. Since then, it has been home to various illustrious families from Polish Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski and his descendants, to the Baron de Rede’ who hosted his legendary Bal Oriental in 1969 and the Rothschilds.
A public exhibition will precede the auctions, open to visitors from 6-11 October. The auctions will be commemorated with six volumes. From 11-14 October, Sotheby’s Paris will offer the contents across five live auctions, and an online sale, accompanied by a series of catalogues comprising six volumes.

It was one rich men collection closed to the public, now some of these pieces are bought by french instututions and are available for all to enjoy, while some others are in another rich people hands. It is bigger pleasure to see some of these pieces live in Versailles or in Louvre then in video :) However ot ios wonderful video!

Since the 1830s until 1860s, when the residence belonged to the Czartoryski family, it was THE HEART OF POLAND. After the collapse of the November Uprising against Russia thousands of Poles were forced to leave their homeland. The Palace hosted the Czartoryski Collection including paintings of Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello Santi e Rembrandt (now in Kraków) and some of the greatest Poles used to meet there including Fryderyk Chopin and Adam Mickiewicz. I am so sorry this historic Paris residence is no more in Polish hands :-(

STAGGERING is the right word. But why is it all being auctioned off now ? I think the actual house is gorgeous, but the sheer quantity of the possessions this house contains is mind blowing - I am so glad I am not a maid working there - can you imagine dusting all that stuff ? Really beautiful things each one of which could be appreciated so much more were it to be displayed by itself instead of being swamped by so much other stuff. Really if this is one family's home it is a ridiculous example of a human having more money than they know what to do with - and I am so glad that's how it appears to me ! I would love to be at the auctions to see all this stuff slowly moving away with new owners. Some of that furniture is beautiful so that would be a shame to sell away from the house. Then if they are selling everything off what is to become of the house itself ? please create a video of it's future if you can !!!
