A few years ago, I made my sister and my sister-in-law, my son and his wife and my grandkids all pillowcases for for each month of the year. I called it the pillow case of the month club. The month of their birthday they got a special one that was all birthday material and I put their name on it. This year I incorporated those pieces of materials that was left over into quilts for each one of them for Christmas this year.
That is an amazing idea and such a keepsake!!! I have some of my Uncle's clothes who passed away and a keepsake pillow is what I am going to do!! Thanks for the idea ❤from KS
Chelsea! A few thoughts: 1. You make me feel like I could sew anything! 🦸 2. Why, oh, why does this channel not have A MILLION subscribers?! 🤩 3. I so wish that we were neighbors because I'm pretty sure that we would be fast friends! ☺ Have a wonderful weekend. And greetings from St. Louis, MO. ~Kelly 🪡
Every video I watch, and they say lift your presser foot and pivot, I think about that Friends scene. :) So funny. I love this project. I will have to try it.
You are So Much FUN to watch! What a Joy it is to FINALLY see a REAL room not made for "set" perfection, a LIVED in & well used sewing room! THANK You, God Bless & early MERRY Christmas to you and your family in Jesus name Amen!
I’m 66, well 67 in two weeks, and while I sewed in junior/high school some college it stopped there. 5 years ago I bought a Viking sewing machine and serger, they’ve sat in the box until recently. terrified me! I can’t thank you enough for your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious and I feel like I actually can do many of these projects. I plan to give gifts I make this years. You have so many beginner projects that will be great gifts for a wide range of friends/family. Thank you so much!
Chelsea, you are so sweet. It’s a joy to listen to you and watch you sew. I’ve been sewing a long time. But even at 67 I’m still learning!! Thank you for all you do in this “the sewing community”. We are blessed to have you!! God bless you and yours!!!!!❤
You’re absolutely right!! It’s how I still feel going into independent sewing and quilt stores. The people who work there can seem condescending to beginner questions. But I still go because I love it all. Thanks for doing this and understanding.😊
I made an Elsa pillow case in October for my granddaughter very similar to this, except I didn’t know about the french seam. Now I need to make another using this method. Thank You again for sharing your fun ideas!!! Your fun attitude and enthusiasm makes me want to hurry back to my craft room!!! ❤🎉
Chelsea, You do a fabulous job explaining how to make the fun pillowcase project! All the Newbie Sewist's will have no trouble following your directions. Tell all the Newbie's that even us oldies have to use seam rippers to take out Boo-Boo's. I really enjoy your warm personality that's full of encouragement and enthusiasm with every project you teach. Oh, BTW, You got a major score on your discounted fabric!!! It's the good stuff you can't see through like many other fabrics that are now sold at hobby stores & even quilt shops at $13 & $14 per yard. Keep up the awesome job you are doing teaching anyone who is interested how to sew great & gift-able projects!😁🤪🤪
My Mom taught me to sew when I was young and when my kids were younger I sewed quite a bit (nothing fancy) but gradually got away from it. After watching your videos I made a bunch of zipper pouches and key chains from fabric left by my Mom after she passed away for my family. Thank you for getting me excited about sewing again!
Love Friends, that episode with 'Pivot' was hilarious. I especially loved the Bloopers of that. They had a hard time filming it, they couldn't stop laughing !!♥️ Love your videos Chelsey, always makes me smile, thank you
Thank you Chelsea! You taught me how to make a French Paper Piecing quilt and now I’m teaching my daughter!! Passing it on to another generation!! I think this is “sew” important!! 😂🎉❤
I've made many, many of these pillowcases! I make quilts to donate and make one of these to go with each one. It's so fun and satisfying. Love the fabric you've chosen for this one. Thanks for sharing!!!
This is the first video of yours I've seen. I have to say I love how you explain things and just how encouraging you are. I absolutely will be watching more.
Chelsea, your comment about “imposter syndrome” hit close to home! I am 51 and didn’t use a sewing machine until last year. I’ve been trying to figure it all out myself and I’m having so much fun. Your encouragement and joyful, supportive attitude are so wonderful. Going into a fabric store is so hard, though. I feel like such an idiot, not knowing anything. I wish I knew more about the types of fabrics and what works for what. It’s all like a different language! 😅 For my first project I was given a bunch of “scraps” from friends and I practiced just sewing them together into colour categories. I’m at the stage now where I’ve put all those blocks together and am trying to hand quilt it. That’s an adventure!😂 But just know that you are so appreciated, way up here in north central BC!
Always so satisfying to make these kinds of pillowcases! My daughters learned to make them in middle school home ec and made them several times as gifts for friends -- perfect to bring as a gift for the birthday girl at a sleepover! As Chelsea said, they're perfect for tucking into a spa kit, but they could also be used as a gift bag for a larger gift -- like maybe a winter- or Christmas-themed print to hold a large stuffed animal or a good sized box or something? Just use a ribbon to tie a bow around the top! There are so many cute seasonal and holiday prints that before you know it you'll want to make one for each month of the year.
That was so nice and easy and super cute!! I'm gonna make this. I have a California king-size, with the longer pillows and good quality pillow cases can cost more than I want to spend, especially in designs I like. So, now I have a new project to make. Thank you, Chelsea! 😊
Chelsea, I have some sewing experience, but had wanted to take a class with my adult daughter bc she wants to learn. After watching your videos, I think we’ll use them as our sewing class! We can be in our own home, and have your excellent, easy to follow instructions, and it will be more fun! Thank you.
Chelsea, Thank you for showing this video with directional fabric. Can you do another one with other directional fabric. I can’t seem to get my head around getting it right, maybe one day it will just click! Love the French seams. You are so great and love your bubbly personality. We need more of that in the world. Have a Merry Christmas.🌲
I loved watching you make this pillowcase. You went at a great pace. I have made dozens of these pillowcases, and I always have to go back and watch the tutorial the next time. Great job!
Don't throw out the selvedge edge that you've cut off. You can roll up your pillowcases and use the cutoff selvedge as a ribbon to tie around the pillowcases.
You are amazing. Thank you so much for this video. I’ve watched so many pillowcase videos, and none of them compares to how precise you are on your directions. Thank you again.
I really love your channel. You have encouraged me to sew more often and just take it one step at a time. Thank you for doing such a great job. Sew amazing
This is great!! Thank you so much for this!! 💞 I'm making pillowcase for a lot of kids for Christmas this year!🤗 I LOVE Friends we watch that every night! It will never get old to us.😂
Love your videos. Just made several collegiate travel pillowcases . They are so cute and easy! I really enjoy your enthusiasm for sewing, it encourages me to sew more.
I would mention that some shops require that you buy 1 yard on clearance fabric which I learned the hard way after I took at least 10 different fabrics up and found out after I had asked someone if I could get a half a yard of each. I was bummed because the fabric was awesome but so were the prices at the end I could only get a couple of yards. Now I just ask for anyone I can find if I can have their scraps. I’m so happy I came across your videos I think your fabulous good luck to getting bigger in the You Tube world!!!😘
I started seeing again with Covid. Making bibs, bags and easy things. I love this pillow case. How fun would it to be for the grandkids to have seasonal pillowcases? Going slow… that is a problem with me. I am so impatient. I tried making French seams once. The video I watched didn’t cut off any.💡🧠 I just want cuz to say I love your laugh! And how positive you are!
I made some small pillow cases for my great grandchildren that fit a small travel pillow. This would be so cute for that. Thank you for showing how to sew the burillo end!
I just got a bunch of yardage of Free Spirit fabric for pillowcases on black Friday!! Nice fabric does make all the difference but it's even better when you get it on sale!! Thank you for the great tutorial!!
Love, Love this project. ❤This is for the person who has everything. Like my wealthy sis!! You never disappoint😊. I will make me two and her one for ech room.
First of all, Roll Tide! 😊❤ My granddaughter was in the marching band and graduated last year! Secondly, thank you for your video, so easy to understand, and you eliminate the unnecessary things, keeping the video short and sweet! I love that fabric! I have king size pillows, I need to find what measurements I would need to make large pillowcases! Thanks for the inspiration! ❤
Such a fun project! I've made all my grandkids lots of pillowcases over the years and they always love them. I also used the burrito method which ends up with no raw edges which is another great feature. You always share the best projects!
I love that fabric! It’s so pretty! I’ve made a lot of pillowcases in my day! I always try to make one, sometimes two when I gift a quilt! Usually, it depends on how much time I have!❤
I have lost count of how many burrito style pillowcases I have made. I make them for my grandchildren every Christmas and of course they are Christmas pillowcases. Same here. If ever near Williamsburg, Va give me a holler.
I’m pretty sure we would be besties too! Lol
Same here! I feel like “even I” can do_____ when she teaches me.
I just now subscribed!
I'm 71 and have been sewing since the seventh grade and i've made these pillowcase several times but I love watching your videos.

You learned how to drive a car & that's far more complicated & scary than a sewing machine! Take those babies out for a spin!
Love my Viking!
And my old Hobbylock Pfaff & BYW Viking is old, too.
BTW
Chelsea, you are so sweet. It’s a joy to listen to you and watch you sew. I’ve been sewing a long time. But even at 67 I’m still learning!! Thank you for all you do in this “the sewing community”. We are blessed to have you!! God bless you and yours!!!!!❤

My great aunt made us holiday pillow cases for every season ❤ we got new ones each year. And now my own kiddos use those pillow cases
Thanks for the border print reminder!!! ❤
I’ve made pillow cases before but needed a refresher and yours was the easiest to follow, especially the French seams! Thank you!
I always ♥️ tell beginners to make a burrito method pillowcase. Really easy, instant gratification. ❤❤❤
I’ve never made a pillowcase or done French seams. I am going to do this. Thank you for this tutorial.
You got this!
I love that you used your mom's fabric. That’s special!

Thank you Chelsea! You taught me how to make a French Paper Piecing quilt and now I’m teaching my daughter!! Passing it on to another generation!! I think this is “sew” important!! 😂🎉❤
Love it, going to try this, french seams are sooo intimidating, but, as usual, you've given me the confidence to go for it! Thank you ❤❤❤
Doing pillowcases and matching.PJs for the grandkids for Christmas. ❤
Loved your tutorial! The step by step live demo is awesome! Thanks for the positive encouragement in sewing something new
Glad it was helpful!
Another great tutorial! Thank you Chelsea. 😀

Years ago I started sewing curtains and pillows cases! So cute!
This is the first video of yours I've seen. I have to say I love how you explain things and just how encouraging you are. I absolutely will be watching more.

I’ve made these pillowcases for years. You made this look very easy. ❤😊❤
It's definitely one of my favorite projects!

Such a cute pillow case.
You are adorable! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I love this pillowcase! 🩷🩶
I love making pillowcases this way! Only thing I add is a topstitch along the end band before rolling. It helps keep the accent color flat.
😂Great idea. Makes the end come out nice after washing and drying. ❤
I love watching all your tutorials. I will definitely make this . I have been wanting to make Christmas pillow case. Thank you for sharing.
lol! Love Friends, that was a funny episode, the pivot comment made me laugh.

For king size pillows you do a full yard of fabric.
I do 36" main body, 2.5" contrast...I usually use a jelly roll strip, and 10" for cuff.
Have fun!
Ive made this pillowcase before but I really like the visual you’re giving us!
I have tried to learn this method before without success. You have just made it sink in! Thanks for all your videos!!!!!!
I'm so glad it finally clicked for you!
Chelsea, I have some sewing experience, but had wanted to take a class with my adult daughter bc she wants to learn. After watching your videos, I think we’ll use them as our sewing class! Beautiful! I'm just beginning and i am going to make this for my Daughter's birthday 🎉. Thank you!!
Have fun!
I love that fabric. I will have to make one. Thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Gorgeous. I made 3 from leftover fabric I used to make my quilt. Made such a cute set.
Such a fun project! I've made all my grandkids lots of pillowcases over the years and they always love them. I also used the burrito method which ends up with no raw edges which is another great feature. You always share the best projects!
Great video! Thank you for your great instruction!
You are so welcome!
Sissss!!!!!! That is so adorable.......I've made throw pillowcases before, been wanting to do this type.......thank you so much 🎉
I love that fabric! It’s so pretty! I’ve made a lot of pillowcases in my day! I always try to make one, sometimes two when I gift a quilt! Usually, it depends on how much time I have!❤
It’s such a fun and easy way to add a special touch to a gift!
I lost my pillow pattern. This is great!!! ty
This is sooo timely I just bought material to make some pillow cases! Never done it before but I know I can now!
I have lost count of how many burrito style pillowcases I have made. I make them for my grandchildren every Christmas and of course they are Christmas pillowcases. The method I use is slightly different, but the results are exactly the same. My measurements are also a little bit different. I use 9 inches for the cuff, 27 inches for the body, and 3 inches for the trim. These are so fun and easy to make and the French seam make them seem fancy. I enjoyed your video and plan to look for others. I was actually making this year’s pillowcases as I was watching your video.
After trimming the selvage I like to sew that small trim down 1/8" from the edge. I keeps it from getting wrinkly and flipping up once you wash it. Just looks neater and more finished.
Great project for a border print!
Love these. I just made 3 of them this week at a quilt store get together/sew together, they are giving them to the food shelf to hand out. It was really fun.
You are amazing. I sew 😂 want to do this and with your tutorial I can. ❤️
I'm so glad you're giving it a try!
This is so cool. I made a bunch of these. I plan on making a few more as gifts this Christmas.
