Wonderful orchestral energy and color; a gorgeous romance-like movement; and uplifting, celebratory, brassy fanfare music !!! Holst, ... what a giant !
Early work before the British Folk influences and Eastern Mysticism were incorporated into Holst's distinct mature voice. Nevertheless, a very attractive orchestral suite with echoes of Russian composers in the first and last movements. The Night Scene is gorgeous, with shimmering strings providing a silken backdrop to the solo violin.....
The Valse - I think it's the Valse - the one with the solo violin is so exquisite. How is this not famous? How is not one of those pieces that all famous violinists have to record? I don't get it. Such tenderness. One of those pieces that makes me think: That's what love sounds like.

This is delightful and inspired from beginning to end. Should be considered among Holst's greatest works.

This is Holst's second greatest work, in my opinion.
Excellent.
