Episode 1 of the Mandalorian has a moment which will stop a Doctor Who fan in their tracks ... if they happen to have an encyclopedic knowledge of Dalek weaponry. In this episode we look at a few of the times that the Star Wars and Doctor Who universes overlapped.

    Another story like this:
In the James Bond film ‘Live and Let Die’, Bond (as played by Roger Moore) was supplied with a communicator device disguised as a clothes brush. Roger Moore took the prop after filming wrapped. Later, while having lunch at BBC TV Centre - he noticed a notice from the ‘Doctor Who’ prop people looking for props, and decided to donate the brush/communicator. However, the props man didn’t recognise Moore, so paid him a few shillings for it. It then went on to appear in ‘Revenge of the Cybermen’.
Also it’s totally canon that it’s the same brush, BTW, James Bond and Doctor Who take place in the same universe, confirmed! Ergo, James Bond is a Time Lord QED.

Gosh-Daleks supplying arms to the Empire.

    • @ThePalaeontologist
      @ThePalaeontologist 5 лет назад +4

As much as I love the Galactic Empire, a Dalek supplying anything to the Galactic Empire of Star Wars, would be like the Forerunners from HALO supplying something to the UNSC. It's just apples and oranges. After all, a single DW TARDIS alone is basically a moving Type II K-civilisation in effective technological power and achievement, just by itself.
1 Dalek let loose on a Star Destroyer and before long everyone who couldn't escape would be dead. Even if they self-destructed the entire ship by setting off the hypermatter reactor cores, which would create a big explosion no doubt, the little bugger would just sit there and raise shields to find itself floating around in space unharmed.
If the Empire had 1 Dalek they might have won the Galactic Civil War literally no joke.

    • @tigrovica8417

@@ThePalaeontologist Well to be honest, it'd be possibility for a dalek to whipe out entire star destroeyer. After all, they them selves said that 5,000,000 cyberman are no match for 1 dalek. But on the other hand, we've seen daleks beeing destroyed by blaster fire before (In some cases even by weaker sutuff).
I think if one dalek would be deployed on imperial star destroyer, yes there'd be large number of casualties, but it'd be destroyed after some time. Maybe the dalek it self would survive, retreat and changed tactic. But I doubt his casing would survive.

    • @ThePalaeontologist
      @ThePalaeontologist 5 лет назад +5

@@tigrovica8417 Oh I know, I'm aware of all that. I totally had that in mind when thinking of it.
There are over 9,700 Stormtroopers on an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer. Besides them, there are 9,200 Officers and 27,850 enlisted crew of varying titles and ranks.
46,750 in total. Probably give some room for a few hundred more if there are guests on board (whether they be other imperials or even evacuees from the front-lines)
1 Dalek landing in the hangar bays would be faced with a barrage of blaster fire from not only infantry but maybe even TIE fighters having a go too, in the chaos of the situation.
But the Dalek's shields are going to be assumed to be powered up (and the Dalek fully powered up too, just as we assumed the crew and trooper complement of the ISD is at full capacity)
Within minutes, Imperial casualties would be climbing fast.
The Dalek wouldn't be interested in a firefight with infantry, but going to the bridge to destroy the command and control of the ship and to cut the head off the snake so to speak.
However, it'd have to fight it's way there. And it would. I'm afraid there'd be very little stopping it from slowly but surely mowing it's way through the corridors. Remember what 1 Dalek represented in the Doctor's own viewpoint in 2005's ''Dalek'' episode?
That is, being an extinction level threat to 21st century humanity.
Now, it is all very well pointing out that the Dalek might have it's shields worn down over time, but we have to remember that it would very likely be able to leech power from the ship anyway. For instance, if the Dalek got to the reactor rooms, it'd be very easy for it to just nab some of the power supply and then carry on it's merry way.
Part of the problem the crew would face is not being able to concentrate their own firepower on the target, because of being spread out around the ship.
Corridors act as choke-points, yes, and there'd be many choke-points to clear (i.e. kill it's way through) to get to the bridge. But you know, if there is one thing a LGTW era Dalek is good at, it's going on a killing spree. Plus, the corridors themselves are ironically going to be making it more of a bottleneck for the Imperials themselves, not the other way round.
Against *normal* opposition, the corridors and confined spaces make it easily defensible and good for defending in a shootout and firefight. But Daleks are never ''normal'' opposition.1 Dalek slowly but surely shooting it's way through wave after wave of crew and troopers, will be losing energy. A smarter thing for the Dalek to do is to fight it's way to the reactor rooms (not the bridge) to a) recharge it's own shields if necessary b) threaten to implode the entire ship. Again, being at full power at the beginning of the scenario, I think it'd tank any number of small arms blaster fire shots and continue to reduce the crew complement down to size.
It'd take a long time, for sure. But one by one they'd fall.
Also remember in the episode, ''Dalek'', that Daleks think outside the box and can kill many soldiers with 1 shot by using the surrounding features (in that episode's case, the anti-fire water sprinklers) to it's advantage. Once the floor was wet, it fired at the floor and the energy of the attack killed everyone. They always maximise their killing potential and I'm sure it'd be fine heading towards either the bridge or the reactor rooms (or both)
And as I said; if it fired on the reactors then goodbye Star Destroyer entirely. Odds are, it'd survive that, too.

      @ThePalaeontologist 4 года назад +4

@@CloudWalkBeta :P the thing people don't tend to realise about Daleks is that they are not just killing-machines, but disarmingly deceptive and dangerous killing-machines.
For instance, theoretically speaking in broad principles, the design theory of both Daleks and Cybermen (while differing in terms of ''perception of elegance''; Cybermen brainwashing themselves into believing that their, ''upgrades'' are ''elegant'', so the more upgraded they get the more elegant they are - which isn't something Daleks care about at all) are still generally quite similar.
On the face of it, why should we fear the Daleks more than the Cybermen? Both tend to seek the same goals. But the problem with Daleks is, they are in a league of their own.
They reached such a point that a single Dalek could quite easily (though it would take a while) purge an entire planet by itself if insufficiently defended.
Daleks are monsters among monsters. They wiped the floor with the Cybermen whenever they met. Just on a different level.
1 Dalek of the Last Great Time War, (in 2005's ''Dalek'' episode) was considered by the Doctor, as a literal extinction level threat to the entire planet Earth.
They are terrifying, though can be underestimated due to how they look.
Daleks VS Stormtroopers is grotesquely one-sided.

The prop pictured ( @4:23) is likely a rubber 'stunt cast' of another prop (possibly even the 'real' one seen in the Mandalorian Weapon locker?) that was constructed from genuine parts from real world firearms. As you no doubt know, rubber casts were used by stunt doubles during stunts to reduce injury and to avoid damaging props whenever the script requires the cast to throw them around or otherwise abuse them.

Depending on which Daleks we're talking about it could go a number of ways. If it's anything approaching the typically extremely powerful Daleks at their height of power (prior to Moffat and Gatiss's go-go power ranger Dalek shenanigans) in their Last Great Time War era bronze design, then it would not be very much of a competition.
IG-11 would fire wildly at the Dalek, which might have a little scoring on the armour if it didn't have it's shields up at all (any of it's shields) Then it'd raise shields and tank basically everything (note: it doesn't even need to raise shields to be perfectly safe from SW galaxy blasters)
Then it'd upgrade it's shields continuously, assess the situation, and probably just obliterate the thing in one hugely powerful blast (Daleks normally sadistically lower the power of their gunsticks to basically make organic e.g. humanoid, sentient, targets, suffer the most pain before dying when hit) IG-11 being a droid would be quickly understood by the Dalek and so it wouldn't bother with the torture tactics and it'd just fire at full power.
Within seconds it'd be over; Dalek wins, IG-11 vaporised.

Defeating them could be impossible, Jedi/Sith/other force users or not. The Daleks are just too dangerous. If the Time Lords couldn't stop them properly, not sure even the united SW galaxy could. Entire fleets and star systems would be lost in the opening phase of the war as the Daleks go on the offensive. The wildly varied combat environments, species and factions in the vast Outer Rim alone will put the Daleks in a variety of interesting battles.
They will find some really unique setbacks in some sectors of the galaxy; but perhaps not decisively. Just things which slow them down.
Depending on how many units we're giving the Daleks in any given scenario, the situation could either be very, very bad or very, very, very bad. In any case, bad.
When the Dalek Empire closed in on Gallifrey, they numbered over 10 billion if I remember correctly. 10 Daleks showing up anywhere in the SW galaxy would be a terrible predicament for anyone encountering them; let alone 10 billion. Before Coruscant, Chandrila and other capital worlds could even begin to organise effective responses to what is going on, billions across the Outer Rim could already be dead.
I'm not sure any amount of planning or heroics would stop 10 billion Daleks. It is s bit overkill to say the least. Most systems would struggle to stop *one* rampaging Dalek. Lone Daleks appearing to attack isolated settlements and defended installations, would be very likely.
Grimly enough, in many cases, that would suffice.
If this is set in the context of the Galactic Civil War/Imperial era then, the local Moffs (joined by rebel groups and criminal factions too, as well as literally thousands of local planetary defence forces) will face critical pressure to hold off Dalek invasions.
Arrogant Moffs may initially feed garrisons into already-hopeless-lost-causes, ignorant of the power of the Daleks, while the non-Imperial commanders will also make grave errors in their attempts to defend against and counter the Daleks. Entire legions, systems armies, sector armies and battle fleets will be lost in a matter of days.
Military, paramilitary, mercenary and civilian armed resistance will slow up the Daleks as they advance into the galaxy. Key systems, fortified bases and strategically vital worlds, will be viciously defended by the Empire especially - however, Imperial losses will be tragic. For the most part, their ground units will merely be slowing the Daleks down by dying a little more slowly than less organised defenders. Any attempt to use Imperial special forces like Imperial Commandos and Imperial Shadowtroopers, Imperial Deathtroopers and Palpatine's Royal Guard, will end with predictable results; the Daleks are just too clever for that and would not be impeded for long by any amount of cunning on the part of the Imperial High Command.
Grand Admiral Thrawn, Admiral Garrick Versio, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, Admiral Firmus Piett and Admiral Gllad Pellaeon, will be pivotal Imperial figureheads at the head of the (increasingly) overburdened and beleaguered Imperial Navy. Their efforts will stop some of the more obvious oversights and losses, however, in general, most Imperial governors, Moffs, Generals and ship Captains, would not be competent enough to counter the Dalek scourge effectively. Without doubt, many systems would be ravaged long before the scale of the nightmare was realised.
Though with some skilled leaders, the Imperial forces would face defeat after defeat after defeat. Lone Daleks would run rampant in cities across the galaxy.
Nothing short of firing the combined arsenals of entire planets at a single Dalek would do (or being accurate enough to hit them with a superlaser blast like Director Krennic was in Rogue One)
Suffice it to say that, short of a miracle (**cue the force wills it being wheeled out to excuse said miracle defying reason**) the Star Wars galaxy is up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Even were the Daleks to only disperse 1/10th of their numbers into solo attacks on individual systems, that would mean a billion Daleks had dispersed to attack a billion planets.
The main systems of interest (10,000 plus key systems) were under the Empire. Several thousand others were under other factions. Hundreds of thousands more well-known or scarcely populated planets were around too. But that'd still leave more than enough room for the Daleks to comfortably sit back and watch as their scouting forces alone practically devastate the entire galaxy.
The Jedi and Sith, for their part (and the Nightsisters, Grey Jedi and others etc) will be fighting a losing battle of their own to stop the Daleks at their source. Palpatine would quickly understand the true horror of the Daleks and perceive them as not only a threat to his Empire, but the Sith Order itself. As such, strangely enough Palpatine would be extremely cooperative with the non-Imperials and see such alliances as a means to an end. He'd know that they'd be lucky to survive as it was united, let alone, divided. His powers would certainly bring some Daleks out of the fight, that is for sure. Palpatine could literally make a thousand Daleks around him go splat from inside their armour, using the force.
The Jedi could also be pretty devastating in single combat against the Dalek combat drones. However, it won't take long for Dalek shielding upgrades to stop their lightsabers and after that the opportunity to force crush the Dalek within would be one of the only means of defeating them with the force.
I'm sure the Witches/Nightsisters of Dathomir would come up with a whole range of messed up ways of give the Daleks a bad day, getting under the armour of the Daleks.
Ironically, a key to stopping the Daleks might be found in the Sith or Nightsisters.
Ancient Sith Alchemy and rituals, could change the nature of the game.
However, this does assume that the Daleks are able to be harmed by the force. Being ''not of this galaxy'', the Daleks might be immune to it. If so, God help the SW galaxy in such case.
To defeat the Daleks by conventional warfare? It's almost impossible, if not impossible.
Trillions if not quadrillions of armed beings will fight the Dalek Empire's invasion - outnumbering the attacking Daleks heavily. But this will mean little once the Daleks begin to enslave entire sectors and churn out slave soldier armies by the billions.
Yet, even without cannon-fodder slave armies, the Daleks numbering some 10 billion would already be more than enough to end all life in the SW galaxy.
In Doctor Who, the Doctor legitimately believed that a single (Last Great Time War era survivor) Dalek, in the episode, ''Dalek'', was an extinction level threat for 21st century Earth. Just one.
Now, a lot of planets in the SW galaxy, though possessing of standards of technology far higher than our planet in the real world, will casual FTL travel and laser cannons being treated like casual nothing special weapons etc But stll - the reality of the situation is that many planets would be in comparable or even worse shape when put up against even solitary Dalek drones.
This would mean a massive evacuation effort would be undertaken as the fighting continued. As Dalek assaults overran massive swathes of the galaxy at an alarming rate, the SW factions would get more and more desperate to hold the line as the numbers of evacuees/refugees increased exponentially. The death toll would be hitting the hundreds of trillions by the end of the first few months of the war.
Titanic battles the likes of which not even the Clone Wars or Galactic Civil War had to show, would draw in massive numbers of military assets and equipment, which if lost in defeat, would be extremely difficult to replace. For example; the Imperial Navy would have shattering losses if it were not utilised wisely. Though other space forces e.g. planetary defence forces (e.g. Naboo, Umbara, Geonosis etc) would contribute to the fightback, the Rebel Alliance fleets would themselves as the second largest around, be vastly overshadowed by the sheer numbers of the Imperial Navy - yet the point in explaining that, is to demonstrate how much the galaxy would rely on the *Empire to shoulder the majority of the burden* in the war.
      [1/2]

    • @ThePalaeontologist
      @ThePalaeontologist 5 лет назад +5

[2/2] Seeing the Galactic Empire fighting side by side with the Rebels and other factions, is fascinating of course, though realistically frictions between them would be intense, all the time.
Palpatine would probably find it impossibly hard not to use the opportunity to betray them in some way. The attrition rate on the Daleks would be low, barring the potential for force users to achieve some wider goal, in going after the leadership. If the Dalek Emperor is taken down, it might cause a problem for the Daleks - but we know that the Dalek command structure and special groups above the jurisdiction of the usual command structure, e.g. the Cult of Skarro, would be able to quickly float into the power vacuum if the nominal leadership was somehow eliminated.
Imagine if Palpatine was crafty enough to just trick the Daleks into holding talks. All he'd need to do is get to *look* at the Dalek Emperor on-screen, and with that visualisation and force connection (again, assuming the Daleks can be adversely affected by the force) he'd be able to use the force to kill it. If nothing else, it'd be a massive morale boost for the Empire especially if their Emperor literally took out the Dalek Emperor in a video call lol
(however, there might be some tricky questions being asked about Palpatine's true nature, because most Imperial citizens had zero idea he was a Sith Lord - or even what a Sith Lord is)
Basically, the Empire is able to hit back, but it is dangerously likely they become overwhelmed and even while augmented by dozens of cooperating factions e.g. Hutts, Black Sun, Pykes, Mandalorians/+Deathwatch, Umbarans, Geonosians (ignoring the fact the Empire enslaved and tried to genocide the Geonosians on their world in pretty iffy newer canon as of SW Rebels and newer Vader comics), Nightsisters, Rebels, previously neutral factions and more etc, they'd collectively still struggle to survive the onslaught.
Han Solo, Lando Carlrissian, Luke Skywalker and several other key non-Imperials, would help give the Imperials more of an edge and new approaches could be adopted by the Imperial military as a result of the cooperation keeping things proactive and dynamic. Most ''bad'' Imperials would be phased out by the very events of the war (they wouldn't really last long against the Daleks) This would harden the shrinking Empire as it fought back.
If the Daleks began to get lured into ambushes and tempted into going after deliberately indicated target systems (e.g. lets say they leave Coruscant with a deliberately lighter garrison and thinned out defence fleet, that could lure the Daleks in to conquer the capital but then to realise it was a trap), then that could help destroy more of the Dalek invaders.
But again, taking out 10 billion of them is a tall order. Lets say a million Daleks are busy executing a cruel conquest of a supposedly strategically vital stronghold world, and then the Death Star I or II comes along; maybe a superlaser blast ripping through them and blowing up the planet would bag the SW galaxy a million Dalek kills (at the cost of a planet and millions if not billions of their own lives to get into a position to do it)
Space battles could be bloodily one sided affairs if the Daleks get used to boarding and swarming the capital ships. Imperial Star Dreadnaughts/Super Star Destroyers, would be key targets for the Daleks.
Fleet numbers need to remain over a certain number or else the war really is lost.
I could continue at length on the ins and outs of the strategy, but suffice it to say that it is just too much to ask to stop the Dalek Empire.
It's a matter of a cluster of Type I and II K-civilisations united, fighting against what is arguably a Type V in their real technological, temporal and military means.
They had a massive advantage over the defending SW galaxy, technologically.
P.S - this all overlooks the idea of the Daleks one shot'ing the galaxy with the Universe Bomb or
some other scary scheme to destroy all life that isn't them.
      Xenophobic, genocidal space pepper-pots = 1.
      SW galaxy = 0.
:( I think the sad outcome would be the Daleks winning 100/100 times. Maybe 99/100 at best.
Attrition tactics and strategies won't stop the Daleks. They will attrition and ratio the defenders most times. It's grim.
There is no victory. ''Victory'' against the Daleks would always imply you nearly lost everything to achieve it. Just ask the Doctor.
Deathtoll estimates (mine, off the cuff):
      - 600-700 Trillion; SW galaxy (in conventional warfare until the resistance becomes officially futile altogether)
      - 1 million to 1 billion; Daleks (massive range I know, but there are many possibilities)
e.g. if the Daleks fight at their best and aren't lured into traps where they could be forced to loose millions in individual battles, their attrition rate would be very low.
On a galactic scale this still gives room for thousands being lost to a whole range of potential problems on a weekly if not daily basis. Galaxies are big places, after all. 10 billion Daleks can easily fit on a small moon. But yeah, defeating 10 billion Daleks is another matter, entirely.
The upper estimates are if the Daleks are hit hard by successful use of repeated and evolving ambush tactics. But to take 10% overall losses is entirely acceptable for the Daleks.
Even if you kill 99% of them the remaining 1 percent is so dangerous, to be left at large, that basically you need to try and purge them entirely (that is the greatest dilemma of all, perhaps - that to stop the Daleks, you basically have to do what they do; see Last Great Time War and the misery the Time Lords, who were easily far more powerful to begin with as well as the greatly more ancient of the two, while also being nominally technologically and culturally superior to the Daleks, found themselves in when facing them)
The Time Lords were amazing at almost everything (including silly costumes) But the Daleks were like that one super nerd who relentlessly strives for maximum achievement in one specialist area (and in the Dalek's case, these were WAR and killing, generally) Therefore, the more holistic, generalist approach and nature of the Time Lords, found itself in trouble when fighting mutant war junkies (which is what Daleks are) who also had a chip on their shoulder about the failed Time Lord attempts *to literally erase the Daleks from the time continuum altogether* lol (kinda understandable - understandable, that is, for both, from both perspectives)
Final Verdict: Dalek victory 99% assured.
''Certainty of death, small chance of success...what are we waiting for'' - Gimli :p
      ...
      ...
      ...
(but yeah, the SW galaxy would fight bravely, nonetheless; being hilariously technologically outclassed) Sure, it'd be fun if the Daleks got to Mortis and were like, ''WTF'' when they ran into the Father, Son and Daughter (and if Abeloth shows up in the war, well, double the death toll for the Daleks lol)

That was awesome, real world connection to doctor who. But I have also ALWAYS believed that in story, Doctor Who has encountered at some point in space and time both the Star Wars universe AND the Star Trek universe. The star trek episode that just SCREAMS Doctor Who, was in Star Trek Enterprise where they find a ship that's "From the future" and is LITERALLY "Bigger on the inside". They even state this in the show, Trip says to Malcome "How can it be bigger on the inside then the outside?" before decending down a ladder into the ship. The ship itself even has this sort of early Tardis feel and shape to it. Even the sulaban alien's written language is VERY Gallafraian-esk, as it is a language that is written using circles. There was even a comic book cross over where The 11th Doctor met the crew of the next generations enterprise and the cybermen teamed up with the Borg. So it wouldn't surprise me any what so ever of there more then just a dalek gun in star wars.

Those were the first ever Daleks I saw on TV as my father was channel-hopping. I must have been three or four and could barely understand what I was seeing. I did not know the 'robots' were evil because of their verbal negotiations with the humans. I also thought these machines were armed with something like crossbows because, first I saw those prongs sliding in and out of the Dalek guns, then later I see them successfully firing projectiles of some kind. I was rather confused, but I'll never forget all those pepper-pots getting burned or thrown into pits by that hostile alien world.

I've found a few of those mortor tail fins along the south downs from when they were used as army training ranges back in WW2.... when a farmer ploughed a field you sometimes would find these unearthed in fairly complete condition (minus the explosive bit!). I always thought they looked like a dalek gun!
