  • A segment from the Australian live variety show 'Hey Hey It's Saturday', which aired on the Channel Nine Network on Saturdays nights throughout Australia from 1971-1999 (on mornings from 1971-1984, on evenings from 1985-1999). This video was from the weekly 'Red Faces' talent segment on the show, which saw regular Australians attempt to gain popularity though various performances. This particular clip aired live on July 17, 1999, and featured regular Red Faces judge and Hey Hey guitarist Red Symons (formerly of Skyhooks), AFL footballer Garry Lyon (Melbourne Football Club), and American WWE wrestler Mick Foley, who was also known for his alter egos Cactus Jack, Dude Love and Mankind. Foley was conducting a publicity tour of Australia at the time, with professional wrestling undergoing a renaissance worldwide due to the 'Monday Night Wars' between the then World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) and World Championship Wrestling. Foley was a key part of the WWF's 'Attitude Era'.
Vaxfacts: Hey Hey It's Saturday featured Darryl Somers as host of the show, with John Blackman as announcer and voice talent (including puppet 'Dicky Knee'), Molly Meldrum as music reporter, and Red Symons and Wilbur Wilde as in house musicians.
The 'Red Faces' segment was a humorous public talent show, which saw regular judge Red Symons almost always give very low scores to contestants, often mocking them.
John Blackman passed away on June 5, 2024 at the age of 76. While not seen throughout this video clip, his voiceover work features prominently, including that of 'Dicky Knee'.

    Good ol' Mick Foley.
One of the greatest WWF/WWE wrestlers, on one of my all time favourite tv shows.
    What a combo.
Thank you so much for sharing this moment.

Pleasure. I’d forgotten about this Red Faces segment until a few weeks ago, when I pulled out the tape I’d recorded the Owen Hart Tribute Show to commemorate his 25th anniversary, and this was after it. And amazingly enough I had kept the newspaper article of his visit at the time, which helped me pinpoint the date it aired. Just in time to pay tribute to Blackers!

First off Rest in Peace John Blackman, wonderful work as Dicky Knee and everything he's done over his career. WOW Red Symons from the Skyhooks, Garry Lyon a champion of the Melbourne Footy Club and Mick Foley at that time was 2 time World Wrestling Federation Champion, I believe this was during his injury layoff, about two months later he won the title back for a final time at SummerSlam from Stone Cold. I never realized that Mick Foley was on Hey Hey, I knew that Andre the Giant and Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff were on the show. Peep this Foley, Wonderful and Andre share some in common. They main evented WrestleMania. Mr. Wonderful at the first WrestleMania in that tag match, Andre at WrestleMania 3 against Hulk Hogan and Mick Foley at WrestleMania 2000 in that 4 Way Championship match which was Foley's last full time match.

And believe it or not, Plucka once played soccer at my old high school, circa 1996, in the staff vs students game. My high school drama teacher, Paul Calleja, was a writer and sometime performer for Hey Hey in the latter days.

@davemustaki134 apparently Mick met an Aussie girl in the states in his younger years.
She told him she was from Mt Druitt.
His primary motive for picking Mounty County was probably for a chance to reconcile?
