  • Hey what's up everyone! In this video I go over how to replace the water outlet coolant temp sensor in a 2013 chevy malibu. It was very easy to do and only was about $20 for the the new sensor at autozone. In Most cases this will fix the AC off due to high engine temp message on your dashboard, will fix the coolant gauge not moving, and will also fix the fans running while the vehicle is off. Hey what’s up thanks for stopping in to watch this video!

On a 2013 Chevy Malibu you should let the engine cool before disconnecting old temp sensor. The sensor acts as a sort of plug for the coolant system. As in attempting to remove the sensor while the engine is still hot will net similar results as removing the radiator cap would. A lesson I recently learned the hard way.

I just replaced my sensor I’m having the same issue. My car is not overheating but I’m having that message pop up on my dash and the fans are consistently running. I just replaced the sensor and it’s still doing it. What else could it be? Still don’t have an engine light on plus my temperature gauge is not working on the dash out of nowhere. This all happened really sucks.

You'll probably need to clear the codes, un connect your battery for a few minutes and reconnect. If you still have the same problem be sure to check your coolant level is correct, also while you car is running see if your cooling fans run at all, if they do not run you may have a fan relay/fuse that's bad. (Not a mechanic but just a handy guy) 🙂👍

Yes I would try to replace the sensor first because it's cheap, if that doesn't work then a deeper issue may be present. Also make sure to check your coolant level in the radiator and not just the reservoir, there may be air in the system (only do this when engine is cold and NOT hot)
