  • We went to Lowe's to get lumber and a very cheap pressure washer caught my eye. I thought it was just a customer return that didn't run, but there was much more to the story than that! In this video we attempt to answer 2 important questions:
    What is it?
    and
    Will it run??

    UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust ruclips.net/user/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

    I work customer service at a Lowe’s and I wish I could defend this... I just can’t. People come in all the time trying to pull fast ones with swapped merchandise. One time an old lady tried to return a faucet and when I opened the box to verify the merchandise I found she’d just put her old faucet in there hoping we wouldn’t check. She booked it out the door before I could even confront her. The only thing I can say about this video is you can’t complain too much because you get what you pay for. The service associates should never have accepted this return in the first place, but you’re the one who bought it

    I work in liquidation for some of the companies you've mentioned in this video. The white X or white markings indicate "White Goods" or goods not belonging to the company or not sold in the stores. They are typically sold in truckloads with other equipment that is considered beyond economic repair. Either way you got a decent deal.

    • @littlejackalo5326
      @littlejackalo5326 3 года назад

      Maybe that's what it means in your group of people that you work around, but that's not what white goods means.White goods are things they sell in the appliance aisle. They are appliances like washing machines, dryers, refers, freezers, dishwashers, etc. That's an industry wide term that is used worldwide. I doubt the liquidation industry would use two conflicting terms for two types of products they deal with. Whoever decided to call items that are not sold at the store, or not owned by the store, is dumb since they also deal with actual white goods.

    I work at Lowe’s. This isn’t a scam on Lowe’s part at all. People will bring in old, not running equipment and ask for a refund. If they don’t have a receipt of any sort the customer service requires some sort of item number upon return. Cashiers don’t know anything about pressure washers so they aren’t going to notice a difference between models, nor do they have time. Also, we don’t have mechanics on tap so nobody goes and looks at it to see what’s wrong with it. In fact, I bought one for $40 that was originally $450 because it “didn’t run” when it was 100% fine. Nobody checks anything because they’re “customer focused” and we’re pretty much told to believe everything customers say without question. So this would be an example of a bad person taking advantage of a bad company policy.

    • @lelandford9683
      @lelandford9683 3 года назад

      Absolutely, I deal with this all of the time when a good associate is telling the customer that they can not return something all it takes is for the customer to ask for a manager. Once the manager gets up there they just turn around and make the associate look stupid by letting the customer have their way.

    I used to be an LP Manager for Lowe's. Crap like this always used to happen, cashiers just scan the receipt and do the refund. One time we had one of the large Dewalt Combo kits returned and the cashier opened the kit after the person left and it was literally a large Rock wrapped up in newspapers. During the summer time we had a cashier return a window A/C unit on the same date it was purchased. After the person left she opened the box and roaches started running everywhere. It had to be at least 10yrs old.

If you don't do this, then you will blow the seals in the pump And always squeeze the wand to release pressure when the engine is running. And it you store it for the winter ,then put fuel stabilizer in the fuel and spray Briggs & Stratton Pump Saver thru the pump so any residual water left in the pump won't freeze, expand, and crack the pump housing.

    One day about 3 years ago my wife and I walked into a Tractor Supply store in another city to look around. I spotted two Simpson brand 3200 psi power washers. Both had a Honda engine's and both were used. The tag on them said that they were non functional. but the engine's ran. I told my wife I'd like to purchase one of these even though we already owned a 2700 psi power washer. I wanted it for the engine. The price was $50 and the new price on those units was $399. The tag also said not returns.

    I love to find deals like that, I am a small engine tech, I have been repairing, restoring & building them for a few decades.. For me I love a challenge.. Don't try to reuse that spring, just buy a new one.. Find the model number for that engine and you can find any parts you need online or just go to any of your local small engine repair shops, most of the time they can sell you parts cheaper and if you opt for used parts. You can get a better price.. Most parts unless they are worn out can be reused with zero problems.. You my friend found a true Dimond in the rough.. Oh and that is called a "governor spring" .. I would recommend, if you are confident in yourself to go completely over the whole unit and check that all the nuts & bolts are tightened, I would take the carburetor apart and clean it and look at the pump to make sure it is tight an secure.. You got a hell of a deal, well for someone with working ability to fix & repair a small engine... Loved the video, Thank you for sharing...

    • @nickopedia5669
      @nickopedia5669 3 года назад +5

      Good advice on the engine, but IME I wouldn't touch the pump bolts with a 10 foot pole.
      They are very possibly seized, and the threads will unscrew right with the bolt! You'll have a little spiral of aluminum and an hour's work at least, drilling out the pump holes larger for a bigger bolt, drilling and tapping the threaded holes out, and heading to the store for 4 new ones and some antiseize.
      In my case the pump on my dad's pressure washer went bad and it got replaced with a different pump that used a different set of holes. They got antiseize and I saved a load of work (the pump didn't actually go bad, it was the pressure release sticking and stalling the motor. New ones were unavailable and I couldn't get a "fix" of sanding the wear ridge and putting some grease on it to work for more than 10 minutes.)

    SO, years (decades) ago...I worked for a car rental company in Las Vegas. At the time, 'remote' locations (other than the main airport) were rare in the industry, but we had several rental desks in the lobby of a few hotels. Drivers would deliver clean cars from the airport main location to the sites, then return in cars that were too dirty (or had mechanical issues) to re-rent, which the drivers would return to the airport. I was a mechanic, and one of these cars had come in 'running rough' the counter agent had written on a note on the dash. Records show the car had been rented from the hotel using cash, then returned two days later. When we popped the hood, we could see the issue. Everything under the hood except the block had been swapped out. A car with 12-15K miles had parts that looked 10 years old. Air con compressor, alternator, carb, battery, PS pump, all of it. Cost the company about $3K (in 1980's dollars at our costs) to bring it back to original. The guy got away with $4-5K retail parts for the price of a 2 day rental (~$50)...

I also purchased a returned lawn mower that was repaired and it is still in use. They are sprayed with a color to differentiate them from a new item, that's all. I worked for Lowe's for 14 years. It is amazing the amount of deception customers display in their pursuit of a refund or an upgrade. My DeWalt 18V cordless drill is testimony of this. I bought it and it is still running on the original batteries!

    I was a manager for Lowe's. People do that all the time. Or they come in but a new microwave, take it home, take the old one and out it in the new box and return it for full price. OR special order a $4000 door or an appliance, or a tractor. Now, Lowe's does NOT have a restocking fee. So when they get a call saying their item is in the customer says they changed their minds and don't want it. The manufacturer will not take it back so they are stuck with it. Those items go to the SOS resale and sell for a fraction of the original price. I have seen $4000 double sidelite doors sell for $900. Those same customers then come in and buy the door or whatever they ordered for less than half the original price. Quite a racket ALL LOWE'S OWN FAULT.
