  • Who are these kids?! Oh that’s Ashley and Jonathan 19 years ago in their first “date.” Or was it a “hang?” How did we go from two kids at a Goo Goo Dolls concert to parents of 4, full-time travelers, and homesteaders? You can ask us on this trip down memory lane.

Just seeing this video, even though it's 3 years old. I love watching your channel. I met my husband our freshman year, I was 18. We dated a year, then he served a 2 year church mission before we married. 47 years later we're still going strong! 3 kids, now all in their 40's- where does time go??

Yes, love at first sight. We met & were married in 10 months. That will be 38 yrs ago this May. ❤ 25 & 28 at the time & now have 4 grown men. I would love to live off grid, especially now, but not the hubby, so I do what I can do on our little plot. I adore you guys. I'm bin-ging you right now to catch up.

At 19, I came home from a party and told my mum that I met the guy I was going to marry. I didn't even know his last name!!! I tracked him down and seven years later (he was slow) we married. We have been together for thirty-four years now and have three sons. He is truly my soulmate.

My husband worked with my Mother and was a friend while he went through his divorce. Then he was gone a few years. We ran into each other at my Mom's business, renewed the friendship. He knew them but to not spook me he said it would be great to have a friend to hang with, without the pressure of dating or sex. I felt the connection too but not as strong, so invited him to help me with my daughter's 8th birthday party tomorrow? He said yes! We saw each other every day, were engaged in 2 months, married in 6 and were married for 30 years till he passed away. His 2, my 1 and 3 more kids, 16 grandkids and 2 great grandkids later, he was the joy of my life! 💞 Appreciate every day while you can! 😉💞

We were 15 when we met. The night before--Halloween--was my family's first night in town. The next morning we went to a church pastored by a family friend. It was Homecoming Sunday with dinner on the grounds. A young man walked into the Sunday School room where my mother and I were eating, introduced himself and said, "Will you marry me?" and continued talking for a really long time. I thought something was wrong with him. After he stopped talking and walked away I said as much to my mother. We ended up getting married 3 1/2 years later. Three children, 4 grandchildren and 35 1/2 years later death did us part.

My husband and I met when he was 23 and in college, and I was 31 and going through a divorce. We met at his younger sister's confirmation, via his older sister, who was a new friend. I didn't even know she had a brother his age. Well, long story short, at the end of the evening, he told his mom that I was the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Everyone, except his sister (maybe), was against it. That was back in 1993. Today, we have 2 amazing young adult children, one of whom is married to a wonderful man we absolutely love. And us? Well, we couldn't be happier or more in love. After almost 30 years together, we're living our happily ever after. Next steps? The kids want to buy land and start a family homestead, which led us here. We have experience with gardening and livestock, and we plan to build an earthbag complex, too. I'm looking forward to watching all your videos!

College to meeting to kids to traveling to homesteading. THE STORY. DROPPING THE DIRT. Ashley was a trouble child forced to go to Bible College. You heard Jonathan's band and fell in love. You signed guest book. March 7th 2002. Went home for summer. Jonathan asked to date at the Goo Goo Dolls Concert. Kind of first date. Jonathan has to meet her parents and asked to marry her. Jonathan was pentacostal and they didn't know him, not too excited with the news. Drove back and proposed. Got married a year from the day they met, March 8th, 2003. Tiny apartment for a year. Bought first house right up road from Jonathan's parents. There for 5 years. Then looking for more than 1000 square foot house for four kids. Got 2700 square foot house farm behind you and then got developed. Feeling of peace and quiet at that house. Home schooled your kids. Wanted to go do things. Downsized from September 2014 and left May 2015. House sold in 12 days. Got huge 5th wheel brand new and used F-350 and set off on a grand adventure. On the road for one year. Got tired of RV neighborhoods. Boondocking on National Public lands and be set up for it. Valley of Fire at Lake Mead at night with your big rig and stuck in mud and then more rain and flash flood warnings. Crazy. Wow, friends came and pulled you out! Fantastic. Cool, invited to Zion National Park to boondock with other boondockers. Needed different set up. Work camp in Oregon for 5 months. Decided to renovate an airstream and worked on it at Ashley's parents. Went out on road for 3 more years. Love of Off Grid and peace and quiet and the desert. Nine months on property now. Animals. Wow! That's a story!

I also have had a wild and very eye opening life.
I wouldn't trade it for anything.
To be in the world and try to go the path that really was not intended for me I felt out of place and just unhappy in so many areas of my life. I thought it was the way to go. I have done so many things that I eventually went this isn't right. A nagging feeling in the back of your head.
I know that you 2 are doing the right thing that leads to a life of real freedom.
So many want but just can't see the truth of it all.
You are teaching a generation that most of these kids nowadays are so lost.

I knew right away. The very first time I met my wife. That she wad the one. Just her presence alone would give me warmth and throw me off balance in a good way. She was with another guy back then. I made sure to stay in contact every now and then but eventually lost contact. Then about ten years ago she was pregnant and left to her own devices. Through a chance of one in a million we met at her work. Without any hesitation I asked her out. Like flatout asked her after ten seconds of talking. Right now I'm pretty much the luckiest guy on planet earth. She's a goddess and I have a stepdaughter and a son whom I both love and treat as my own. Sometimes I look at my wife and I'm still trying to figure out how a goof like me was given this woman. I still don't get it haha. On a sidenote, we also plan to homestead, just not off grid as our country does not allow it through law and rules. We really like the channel. Keep it up.

My wife and I met December and knew enough for me to ask her to marry me in mid January and for both of us to decide to get married in December of the same year. We lasted until she had a year with colon cancer, had a final surgery, got the word that she was cured followed two days after the surgery by getting a surprise embolism that killed her. We had prayed that God would heal her and that we would have our 50th wedding anniversary. We should have asked for healing AND the 50. While we were going together, 50 seemed unreal but they were a goood set of years.

Soo I was 15 and running through mojave Park in California ,to catch up with some girlfriends and while we were running ,god literally said and I heard him loud and clear say that will be the father of your children 😳😱😲 I stopped dead in my tracks and this guy was standing by a tree near the baseball field
My friend turns back and says what are you doing lets go , and I said god just told me that guy right there is going to be the father of my kids 😀
And she said oh that's John I'll introduce you to him later !!
So we met up with him and some of his friends went to mandys house , her parents were out of town and they had a full ooen bar 😳😱
So being teenagers we decided to help ourselves a little to much ,anyway I was dancing on the coffee table and fell backwards and John caught me and I said thank you for saving my life 😆
Anyway we ended up in Mandy bathroom and making a bubble pit 😲 with all the shampoo in the shower I mean there was like 6 of us kid's having a blast bubbles everywhere and drunker then skunks 😂😅😰 after all that we calmed down amd were all hanging out in the living room John was sitting in a recliner chair and decided to call his friend Jason to see.if he wanted to come over ,I was curious and Mandy said Jason was a good looking guy so I sat on John's lap and said let me talk with your friend Jason 😊 and John said no way your mine😊😍 Anyway we've been together ever since had our first son June 1995, I just turned 18 and John was getting ready to turn 17 😊 2 years later we had our middle son and 2 years after that we had our last a baby girl 😇😇😇
They are now 27 will be 28 this year , then 25 will be 26 and baby girl 23 will be 24 😲😱 they grew up so fast 😞☺
We married way down the road in 2009 😘 so all together we have been together 28 almost 29 years and counting 💕 and I wouldn't change a single thing ,we have definitely been through many many situations that could destroy any relationship ,we've been homeless together but we got on our feet quickly😊 we have had many many adventures together and so many beautiful memories that we will never regret or forget 😂😅
Our kids tell us all the time that they wouldn't trade us for any other parents ,because we raised them to be the wonderful people they are today 😇😇😇 They always say we out them first and gave them a wonderful loving life and the crazy thing is we were told that we didn't know what love was because we were to young to know and that teenage relationships really don't last especially when you get pregnant young ,but we proved everyone wrong and here we are going strong with a love for each other no one could ever separate 😍😍 He's truly my best friend ❤ Congrats to you both and cheers to you 2 god bless and many many more years to your beautiful love you have for each other 😍

My husband asked me to marry him on our first ‘date’ 😳
My mom told me I was going to marry him.
    Oh, how I denied it.
    That was 1983
Still married & we haven’t strangled each other yet 🤣🤣🤣

I was a junior and he was a sophmore. He gave me one of the those papers that said " If you give it back you owe me a kiss, if you throw it away you owe me a kiss, if you give it to someone else..." He was tall dark and handsome and had the legs of a runner. I was a dork. We just celebrated our 42nd anniversary. At the wedding people were making bets on how long we would last. We fooled them. If you ask him when he knew I was the one, he will tell you it was when I held his hand on our first actual date to a Christmas choir concert at Bethany college with my parents, grandpa and little sister. And we still look at each other the way the two of you do. I was 20 and he was 19 on our wedding day in 1980. At the end of the day its all about choosing each other, even when you don't like each other. And it really helps to start with a best friend.

Awww you are such a sweet couple. Your story is so beautiful.
Met my hubby at church. I was 16,he 17. I also knew right away I want to marry him when I am grown-up. This year we will celebrate 33 years together as husband and wife. We have three great daughters and our second grandchild is on his way.

I almost had love at first sight. We "met" on eHarmony, had a face to face in Nashville, and realized we clicked. He came to Knoxville and that's when I knew and he did too. He proposed in front of my fourth grade class at Berean with Rae's covert help (co-teaching). Been married 15 years, one son, homeschooling, minimalizing step by step, so blessed!

I'm watching now, with the benefit of time passage and a WHOLE lot more subscribers. From 7k then to 128k now, wow. I started watching when MLHS stopped posting very much, because they think you're wonderful and I liked you guys when they visited you. I just have to tell you that you guys are lovely. All the nerdiness, the way that all of you work together, your creativity, willingness to try new things, the attitude about failure being about learning...plus it's obvious that ya'll are so in love with each other after all these years! I always learn something when watching ya'll. It's much like MLHS, in that after awhile, you feel like family. In a sweet way, not all stalkery lol. Anyhoo...keep on keepin' on. You are delightful!

My first wife and I built our first house in 1980 for $52,000. Split level 1800 sq. ft. but no garage. 10 years later I built a 2 car garage for $39,000. 10 years made a huge difference in costs.

Oh no. He was definitely NOT the one. His nickname in college, where I met him, was The Fonz. I got a blind date to a formal dance just to see who would go out with this guy. He showed up without a date just so he could dance with anyone he wanted to and not have to deal with an upset date.

MY MOTHER was the one that said "he will marry my daughter" as his family walked into our church for the very first time! Native Texan here and even we Texans hate Texas in August (and July).

You both have a great charisma on camera as I'm sure you do off camera. I'll bet longer video's and a bigger picture of what your hoping to accomplish will bring you more viewers, along with more adds. You also might want to reach out to sponsors for help and if you haven't already done the patron thing, you should get that started. You have a good story, and expanding on that can bring more people in, and your viewer base is family orientated which will also bring you a bigger base. The minimal life style is big right now so you fit in to the times. Myself, I plan to go underground. I haven't purchased my desert dream property yet but because of the heat and sometime freezing temps, it's smarter in my opinion to go down under.
