She is very versatile, she can do the same song in different styles, depending on the instrumentation. And she's living all her songs. There are some live performances where she shakes her head after the song, like coming back to reality. Unique voice, unique performances, all we should ask for nowadays.

I was very happy to see you reacting to Aurora, Dr. Marc. Thank you. She throws herself so completely into her art. She has SO many great songs and performances on RUclips if you want to hear more. A couple of my favorites are Murder Song (Nobel Peace Prize concert), and Through the Eyes of a Child (VEVO stripped). The first is accompanied by a single acoustic guitar, the second is a capella, and both are excellent sound recordings so you can really hear her voice. Thanks again.

That was a fascinating and enjoyable reaction. Aurora is one of a kind. You nailed it when you spoke about being authentic and having an edge. I discovered Aurora for the first time when she performed for KEXP at Iceland Airways 2018. I was so taken by her performance that 20 minutes later I had tickets to a show 600 miles away. Aurora recommends her song Runaway as a good place to start with her music. I think that her performance of Runaway from Iceland Airways 2018 would be a great song for you to react to.

Regarding her hand gestures: I think they more lyrics related. She sings "rain" and her hand might follow maybe a rain / tear drop that runs down her face. She sings "feather falling" and her hand moves like a gently falling feather. Like a stone, she makes a fist, is broken into sand, and she skims her hands from the sand.

As always, I LOVE me a good AURORA reaction, especially from someone who can disect the music a whole lot better than what I can do. I really enjoy watching you "work" on other artists this way.
As for who to react to next, I would like to hear your take on "Wardruna - Grá", it's a band from Norway also, and while very simplistic in nature, to me it's a very powerful and emotional song.

thank you Dr Marc Reynolcs, that was very interesting description of musicality, never thought about it in that way myself but it makes sense. However, for me musicality is something in the tonal quality that I recognize immediately from even one sang word. Maybe we mean different things, for me it is like even the air sings along the singer, everything starting to vibrate similarly. I know, crazy :)

During her KEXP performance of this song she said it's about a man killing his lover. Once you know that the tone and lighting throughout the song takes on a lot of meaning... like the angelic voice feels like the moment the lover dies.

Why does every vocal coach want to analyze the singer? What she is doing, instead of what she is feeling? I heard it so many times. How people say, wow that's so clever how she pronunces words. I'm a singer myself and nothing I do with my voice is calculated. It comes with the flow of the feeling, the music, the lyrics or my imagination gives me. The same goes for the movements. When you speak to people in public do you really plan every step you do to communicate with others? Everything happens unexpected. The same goes with music it's also communication to give Words a bigger meaning in the best way so you also surprise yourself with what you are doing on stage too. That are in my opinion real musicians. No avatar no acting or something else. Just pure music. And that's so difficult to find in our modern music industry.
But what I like on this channel is the anlysis of the stage setting, the light and everything around the singer. That's very interresting to see. But the singer itself, in my opinion, can't be judged about what she is doing when she is authentic and real in what she is doing. Just when she plays some sort of role and it doesn't fit. Aurora is not a role. She is herself. And everything else is communication. And that makes her so fantastic and unique.
I don't know if everything fits here in grammar. I'm from germany so excuses if my english is bad.

Such a unique voice, beautiful and gentle, lovely. React to TNT Boys. It would be really cool to see you react to them doing Flashlight on TNT Version when they were about 10 years old and compare it to their performance of Listen on World's Best a few years later. So much you could go into between their voices maturing (moms of boys that sing always find this a trying time. Navigating the voice change makes them want to give up singing before the magic happens) and to see just how much better they get, even though they were awesome singing Flashlight too. 😁

Nice analysis. You might want to see her cover of Ariana Grande's "God is a Woman".

  • @TheOnlyGhxst

@5:37 Gotta disagree there. I think the imperfections simply adds to the beauty of the song. Idk about other people but I don't "buy into" her music because the story is good enough to excuse the imperfections, I like her music because the little "imperfections" add the perfect tone to the stories being told. Let's be honest, if everything was "perfect" and by the book all of the time that would get really boring, like Opera, for example, which as far as I know not too many people listen to anymore, at least compared to more classical times. I think these days people are starting to appreciate the beauty of imperfection and vulnerability more. Not to mention that beauty is entirely subjective, just because someone hits perfect notes or perfect octaves or whatever doesn't necessarily make it "beautiful," depending on the person listening.

Very nice, though you chose not the best performance of this song. This song is so very delicate that its a bit hard to nail down, especially with the range she's going through and the simplicity of the music and instruments. The performance she does of this song at "The Current" really show what she can do.

  • @bjornarsimonsen7592
    @bjornarsimonsen7592 2 года назад

Please you have to do more analyses of Aurora. I think you got a bit unlucky with this one because, though it's still Aurora and still very very interesting, this isn't the best sample for an analysis I think. I'd recommend Murder Song and/or Runaway, both live at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. If you like authenticity, very deliberate choices when it comes to what you mentioned as "musicality", that changes are essential and that when you have two lines that are equal you need some variety in them as long as the overall note stays the same, then look at how she does exactly that to perfection in Murder song when she counts down 5,4,3,2,1 in the first verse.
For this song here, her rendition of it at The Current is porn to anyone who understands music.
If you want something more unique when it comes to style and composition, try "Churdyard" or "All is Soft Inside", both live at KEXP.
If you want mesmerizing, angelic, ethereal and magical performances, try any one of her songs done live at Nidarosdomen, especially "Lucky" and "Through the Eyes of a Child".
If you go with any of these recomendations, I will guarantee that you will have your professional curiosity and appreciation very satisfied. Plenty to analyze there and near perfection vocally at the same time.
