- We chat to The Specials' founder and chief songwriter Jerry Dammers about the past, present and future of protest music, the drive behind his band and the face of British politics today.
This interview was filmed at The Ivors, May 2014.
Dammers definitely has something to say. Pity we don’t see more of him.
Dammers is definitely wrong about Mass immigration & it’s effect on the young people trying to get Jobs in this Country.
Every Hotel in my Town is now filled with 4-Star Non European Young men of fighting age without any Women or Children whatsoever.
We are being taken to our own extinction ,
Slowly, faster, on & on & on until the European people become nothing more than a memory in the Lands of Their forefathers .
Remember that you can’t talk about that these days. . .
He's 59 years old here. He looks a lot younger than that.
A very shy and humble genius. been lucky to have met and chatted with him on a few occasions. Well deserved award.

i Reckon That he helped to make some amazing music but his attitude on immigration is totally spastic .
We Really Don’t Need any more new comers flooding in with the promise of Money & Dead Babies on our shores .
The ones that make it into the 4-Star Hotel luxury That has filled every Hotel in my Town & up & Down Britain,
At the same time we have ex-Soldiers that gave their Lives for our freedom Left to beg on the dirty streets.

As per usual, Mr. Dammers was Spot On, his finger on the pulse of the politico's cowardice. What a bloody shame PRS did not give him the respect he so clearly deserves, by interviewing Dammers in a quiet corner away from all the tarts and fluffers. Fancy that, eh?
good dude. smart dude. especially his comments about instrumental music as protest music.
He may have had his differences with The Specials, but he's bang on with his views on the UK political scene and the hatred that spreads so many immigration lies over here.

Depends who's version is the truth. Personally I'd believe Jerry's version as Terry has always pursued his own solo agenda when it comes to music and the constant personal insults aimed at Jerry were in very poor taste. Terry is now 'The General' which is why Roddy & Nev are no longer part of the reunion.
@@stumagoo2395 I picked up on Roddy's dislike of Terry at a gig a few months ago. Sad really when they all contributed to some really great music.
i always thought of Jerry Dammers as a tormented Genius type..... i could be wrong just my opinion, very talented bloke nevertheless.
People like Jerry Dammers spoke for my generation as John Lennon spoke for the Sixties...he is saying what Lennon would have said if he were alive, the 2010's generation like my son need someone to speak for them now, but I see no one ready to speak for them...dissappointing
That's quite a fantastic claim that you just made: That you know what John Lennon would be saying now. I tell you what's disappointing: You are, with your bullshit. Being inspired is one thing, relying on someone to speak for you when what? You hide whilst they speak? To wish that your son needs somone to speak for him, rather than encouraging him to be the next Lennon and speak for himself? What does that say about you, your level of courage, and how genuine you really are? Just another virtue signaller.

Oasis don't deserve the steam from dammers piss. In fact I've got a real problem with including them both in the same sentence. One is a hoary old pub rock band and the other has a sun ra tribute Orchestra. I rest
in your opinion, Jerry? The amount of immigrants is a drop in the ocean......maybe in your postcode.
We are guilty of being lazy. We choose to have immigrants here to do the jobs we dont want to do but we need as a country to get our hands dirty and do the manual jobs. Immigration isnt needed to be wealthier. Getting our people to work and not sending them to University for Combined Studies and racking up debt that only benefits money lending institutions.
Great songs though and was badly treated by the other Specials, from what I can see.
