זאת הפעם הראשונה בישראל שהדיפנדר הישן והחדש מטפסים את אותו המסלול ובמקרה הזה משלט 21 הקשוח מאוד שסומן ע"י יבואנית לנד רובר לישראל כמכשול, ובצדק, שיביא את בשורת הדיפנדר החדש לישראל.
לשמחתי "התנעתי" את המצלמה בדיוק בנקודה הכי קשוחה במשלט וזכיתי לראות את האגדה הישנה בתימרון קאמיקזה והצלה מהסרטים מטפס את המשלט, מייד אחריו הגיע רגע המבחן של "החדש" והמפנק שלאחר מאבק קשוח והחלפת נהג ללא ניסיון באחד מלא ניסיון, טיפס את המשוכה זרועת המכשולים כאשר מייד אחריו עוד שתי מכוניות צולחות את המשימה ביתר קלות...

@@healthyamerican Coming from the guy who said "jeeps eat defenders for lunch" and only speculates about traction control and transmissions... Yeah, you don't know enough to judge this vehicle at a simple glance. You certainly don't know any better than any of the rest of us. Any vehicle will struggle if the driver sucks and if the wrong line is chosen. Seems that's what's happening with these folks.

אני נהג בצבא ואני נמצא באחד הגדודים היחידים שעוד משתמשים בדיפנדר הישן ואני חייב לומר שנסעתי בכל הארץ ועל כל בור וכל שטח נכנסתי איתו והוא פשוט לא מפסיק לנסוע. פשוט אגדה על גלגלים
בתור ג'יפאי אני יתן את דעתי על עליית הדיפנדר החדש בערך בדקה 7
אם היה נוסע לאט ומוריד אויר ל15 psi עם גז קבוע היה לו יותר סיכוי לעבור בקלות.
בגיפ נעול חובה לנסוע לאט במעברים אחרת זה שבירת צירייה או התהפכות
ברכב עם צמיגי 50/50 זאת אומרת חצי שטח אבל זה מסלול קשוח ורואים את חוסר האחיזה היחסי
כמה מכות שאסי כנראה ללא נזק בגלל מיגון תחתון
רואים שהמרדיכים מקצועיים .
בקיצור אם אתם רוצים להינות משטח קשה רק גיפ משומש שכבר הבעלים הקודם השקיע את כל השיפורים
ואתם קונים מן המוכן
ואף פעם לא לצאת לשטח לבד!!

Off road tyres on 20 inches rims are nearly useless, old 90 has 16 inches rims, therefore you can lower much more the pressure on /70 tyres than on /45 ones. And BF Goodrich A/T are the best u can mount: no electronic traction control can beat these improvements :-)

Looks like standard all terrain tyres on a 20/21 alloy. Also, I don’t think he’s in low range for a lot of this. I didn’t catch most of the dialogue, but is this fitted with a rear locking diff? Either way the new defender has a lot more potential than this represents.

Tyres CAN be an issue, but this is not on mud, or snow/ice. It's a dry surface, so it's tyre pressures that are important.
JLR tested Def2020 and claimed it better off road. Well, its suspension travel is not as good as coils and live axles and the car is let down by this. But, they abandoned this design years ago on their vehicles in the pursuit of improved ride quality, refinement and road manners. But, off road, coils snd live axles will remain the best choice.
@Prakrit Biswas that is the problem. Coil and live axles as per old RR, old Disco were fine. But, press reviews compare them to independent suspension stuff and slate RR etc for not being as good on road as BMW, Audi etc. So, they move upmarket, aim for the luxury sector and now just produce SUVs. Def 20 is another suv, not a working truck. Look at Powerful channel, he compares his new Def20 against his Disco 4 and its inferior in almost every area.
But JLR don't care. The magazines rave about the new Defender and how its good for carrying babies and dogs and surfboards. Working people buy Japanese pickups or Landcruisers.
With those street tyres on the 2020, it's actually impressive.
And with obvious newbies behind the steeringwheel. Those people in the old ones clearly knew what they where doing, those in the new one not so much
The tyres isn't the issue. Lack of wheel travel and ifs is.
Wrong. Everything is about traction. Offroad tyres have much more traction than street tyres. Even if you put offroad tyres on a 2WD car it will go far. As for wheel travel, it is still impressive on the 2020 having independent front suspension, but its traction control system is so good that even if 3 wheels are in the air it will pull itself with the remaining wheel, but you need a good tyre for traction for that wheel.
If tyres didnt matter, offroad tyres would not exist.

There is no "new Defender" - the only car that should maybe should called "new Defender" is the Grenadier and not this SUV-thing!
A bad workman will always have the tools to be blamed, the 2 new land rover defender drivers need to be punished.
This video will sabotage the defender sales to some extent. They were inexperienced, too fast on the Rocky path, too hard on the gas. You have made the car look and perform the poorest. Infact the old defenders did 100% better because they had real off-road drivers. This video made me decide to import new parts and fully rebuild my 300tdi 110 defender.

@@kevdefender6976 it has everything to do with the driver. Dont get me wrong i prefer the old defender, but this had everything to do with skill. Even with those electronics, you still have to steer and step on the gas yourself, it doesn't drive for you, it only helps you. You still have to pick the right line yourself
Vrolijk sadly you are wrong with the gas pedal, the steering is correct but the new defender takes even control over the gas pedal when you chose the automatic mode, I have seen a few videos now of the new defender and I have to say it struggles a lot (the electronic systems). They are often not fast enough or even too fast. Always the old defender or waiting for the new Ineos

I can get my Freelander TD4 facelift up there, this is driver error, and tyre choice.
old Defender driver knew what he was doing, new Defender driver didn't have a clue. Going too fast and then stopping for no reason.
$15,000 20 year old defender just thrashed $80,000 new one! That’s the problem with the new having no live axles . Just look at the articulation your can achieve with the old against the new , the new is severely restricted by lack of axle articulation doesn’t matter how fancy the 21 on board computers are their all but useless if the wheels are not on the ground . And it’s not about tyres in this situation , the ground is bone dry , mud terrains make no real difference here in fact the road tyres are probably offering more contact on the rock than the Mt’s .
By the way you are talking, you must be somewhat of an “expert” in off-road drives.
So you must acknowledge the fact that the old defender had much, much, much more experienced drivers. They knew what they were doing.
Saying that tires don’t matter because its dry is a really stupid comment. Tires are essential in grip, and off-road tires offer much more grip and control over the street tires. Even in dry terrain.
Think it like this, you would rather be climbing rocks with a pair of shoes that give you good friction, rather than bare feet.
Luka Rancini irrespective of the experience of the drivers you don’t need to be an expert to realize the new one is struggling with axle articulation which is always going to be a problem with an wishbone suspension set up , doesn’t matter what tyres you have if their not in contact with the ground and you can see clearly the computers are struggling with transferring power to the contact tyre and back and forth as each wheel ends up in the air and the system seems slow . It takes it time to figure out where the power needs to be going so even a split second lost is traction gone even the most experienced driver can only do so much when the reaction times are delayed . Off roading is all about keeping a steady progress even if very slowly once you lose traction and come to a stop everything becomes way more difficult you could put the most expensive off road tyres on the new one and it will still get stuck in cross over axle situations it’s why no serious off road builder will use anything but live axles , the new G wagon was built from the ground up all new and retains live axles and so do most of the work horse off roaders . The new Grenadier which is the true replacement for the old defender is also live axles . If you put the same tyres from the new on the old the old would still make progress , there’s no advantage to big threads when climbing over dry rock it’s about keeping as much rubber in contact with the rock surface big lugs are only useful in soft ground , mud or loose surfaces where you need to ‘dig’ into the material .

I still would think that with an experienced driver the car can do much better then what shown, where the guy clearly didn't know where to put the wheels (I think, imho).
I would still prefer to have the new defender over the old, because the old is kind of a pain in the ass to mantain and to drive on, but that's just me, a gen z guy with beginners experience in this sector.

First comparison is more fair than the second: 90 vs 110 is not exactly the same. Anyway, are the tyres on the new landy off-road tyres? Or stock ones? Also, they look too much inflated. Watching all those new plastic bumpers get beat up like that is not very nice though...wonder how the bottom got out of that test...
כמי שעלה כמה פעמים את משלט 21 ( גם עם איסוזו ידני 3.1 בלי נעלות) ובעלים של דיסקברי 5 הבעיה פה לא הרכב, נהגים לא מנוסים בעבודה עם המערכות של לנדרובר, יכול להיות שהם חיות שטח מסוקסים אבל זה לא עוזר למי שנוהג בדגמים החדשים, לפי מה שאני רואה בסרט זה פשוט חוסר ניסיון
מציע ליבואן לצאת לצלם סרט מתקן עם נהג שיש לו נסיון בדיסקברי 5 בשטח והרכב גם עם צמיגים האלו עולה בנסיון הראשון
היי תומר, זה לא סרטון של היבואן, אנחנו עיתונאים ותיעדנו את הדברים כפי שהם והם פורסמו כהוויתם. אם צפית עד הסוף יכולת לראות את החלפת הנהגים באמצע, נהג חסר נסיון יצא ובעל נסיון נכנס. 4 דקות לקח לרכב לעלות את המכשול כשנהג מנוסה אוחז בהגה.

The old one is lifted and has bigger offroad tires btw
LLomax but the new defender can also level it's height ! And that defender had normal tyres which every basic 4x4s bare ! The new one also has an advanced terrain management system ! And still it couldn't climb over ! The old one had rigid bare bone axles ! So it was super easy for it !
The problem is the driver, not the new Land Rover Defender, and I think it's intentional.
It's good for what it is. Not a fair comparison the old defender had suspension lift and tyres that the new one will never be able to compete with. It's like comparing an FJ to a HZJ70 series. Thanks for the vid.

זה נשמע שאתה בעיקר מגן\מיחצן את הדגם החדש.
אי אפשר לתרץ הבדל כל כך משמעותי רק תחת הגישה שהרכב החדש יותר נוח בכביש.
בשורה התחתונה, עם תג מחיר והיסטוריית מותג כמו של הדיפנדר , התוצאה מאכזבת במקרה הטוב ומביכה ברע.
לא חסרים כלים עם מרכב אחוד ומתלים נפרדים שנותנים ביצועים טובים יותר מאלו שהצגתם בסרטון.
לא חסרים כלים עם שלדת סולם וסרן חי אחד שנותנים ביצועים טובים יותר ובחצי מהעלות.
הגינות עיתונאית היתה מחייבת אותך להציף את הבעיות אבל נראה שאתה מחויב יותר להגן על המותג מאשר על העובדות שמוצגות בסרטון.
הגעתם למשלט באותם התנאים בהם עלו אותו אין ספור רכבים לפני כן (רובם ככולם עם תג מחיר נמוך משמעותית ועם איכות נסיעה בכביש שאינה נופלת בהרבה).

אני מתנצל, אולם מקריאה של התגובות שלך לביקורת שהצופים העלו עולה תמונה שונה (החל מהצהרה שחתך 60 זה המון, ועד קביעה שצופה אחר איננו לקוח פוטנציאלי....).
לדעתי, יש דיסוננס גדול מאוד בין מה שרואים בסרטון לבין התשובות לתגובות.
כמו כן, בסרטון עצמו יש לא מעט קיטרוגים לכשלון של הרכב בטיפוס ואף לא התייחסות אחת לעובדה כי זווית הגישה והנטישה לא עומדות בסטנדרט של הדור הקודם (מה שמתבטא בסרטון בלא מעט מכות לפרונט).
הטיעון על יכולות הנהג הוא נכון, אולם גם כאשר עבר לכיסא הנהג, נהג ותיק עם ניסיון, הרכב עדיין התקשה מאוד.
בנוגע לנוחות בהגעה ליעד:
האם אתה מוצא הבדל כל כך מהותי בין הנוחות שבה דיסקברי 4 או 5 יגיעו לאותו היעד או לנד קרוזר חדש....
ונקודה אחרונה:
אני מתנצל, אבל אני לא חושב שאפשר לקרוא לסיקור העיתונאי שהדיפנדר החדש סיקור אובייקטיבי.

You are so correct! and all those people here complaining about tires. Yes, more off road oriented tires will help but the extremely poor axle articulation will not be any better and bigger tires than 33" will also be hard to fit.Also hard to give some real lift. The new defender is what it is, a competent suv but no real 4x4 truck.
It doesn’t have beam axles, so there is nothing to articulate. The front diff is open, just as on the old one. There is a locking center diff and and optional locking rear. Better tires and a driver that uses the traction controls better instead of trying to power through would make a big difference. And the old one was a short wheelbase. With a driver that chose better lines. To many factors to have a real old vs new battle. They should do a comparison between similar wheelbase on similar tyres and with experienced drivers.
Oliver Moereels yes, I’m fully aware of what the new vehicle has and hasn’t got mate, axle articulation or wheel travel, it’s all the same to me and the new one hasn’t got any compared to the old Defender!
The great thing about the old one was you could change it around to however you wanted, bigger tyres, locking axles were all easy things which could be done... not on this new thing unfortunately!
Pill Sharks The new one is a restyles discovery suv, nothing more. Ideal for towing horses and driving over grassy fields.
healthyamerican they are good for toys, go ok off-road, but can’t carry weight or tow. Their tow ratings are a joke.
hmm too many variables. For one tires and air inflation look very different. The drivers also look like they don't understand the TCS, they take time - and wheelbase differences. Good to compare and observe nevertheless, looks like my disco4
Please the new 2020 defender had tires like my golf got up that hill easy although the guy hamfisted it and will drive great on the Autobahn. The old defender had much bigger tires so of course he got up a bit easier, but is much less bearable in an Urban setting. I get it. I would get the old defender too. It looks better, it is much more fun. There are a lot more accessoires for it. Offroading with it is more of an adventure. But don't tell me it's better as a car. It's better as an experience.
I think a Suzuki Jimny would climb that much quicker than the new defender.

תלוי יותר הנהג מאשר טכנולוגיה
תמיד היה ותמיד יהיה, יש כאן משולש קדוש. מכוון, נהג ומכונית.
השוואה מדהימה וסופר מעניינת. תודה! אני לא יודע של מי הרכב אבל אם זה הדגמה בטח מנהלי המכירות לא מעכלים את הטעות שעשו בהשאלת הרכבים.. גם שברתם להם את הצורה וגם הראתם איזה רכב שטח גרוע זה :) בכל מקרה הישן - חלום!
זה היה מתואם עם כולם והיה ברור שנזקים הם חלק מהעניין אבל מצד שני זה דיפנדר והיה חייב לאתגר אותו עם אחד המעלים הקשוחים וזה מה שעשינו. שנית, הוא רכב שטח מעולה!!! למרות שאולי מהסרטון קשה להתרשם (הרבה חוסר ניסיון של הנהג, הראשון) אחריו הבאים בתור טיפסו כמו ענקים והטכנולוגיה ללא ספק, זאת שכולם אוהבים לשנוא, עושה עבודה מדהימה וגם יודעת לספק חווית כביר מפנקת. אין הרכב מכוניות שיודעות לספק כל כך הרבה משתי העולמות.
נדב, אל תדאג נשמה. מבטיח לך שתאגיד "טאטא" ההודי (הבעלים של לנד רובר) לא יתמוטט אם כמה רכבי הדגמה שלו יכנסו למוסך...

And that White LWB defender gets an extra respect because it didn't even make use of diff lockers and just went over like a pro ! Those new defenders are just a new series of hollow cars ready to be thrown out in the junkyard! Old defenders are the best !

*sigh* old school Defender for me any day! The solid axle articulation is lovely to watch. The new Defender/Disco5 is a nice SUV, but a very different market, so no comparrison really. Part of the beauty of the old defenders is the ability to mod everything: 2 inch lift with 33's, no probs; front and rear lockers, too easy; do your own home made mods to the interior or body, where's the rivet gun?; extra crash protection and airbags, or on road handling, forget it :D But if I'm out in Woop Woop I'd want my all mechanical Perentie so I don't have the additional worry of electronics karking it and the computer having a melt down. I've managed to get out of scrapes by jamming things where they shouldn't go just so's I could make it to civilization, which would be impossible with a new vehicle. But on the other hand, the 2020 Defender/Disco5 is preferable for city and highway traffic for sure, with the ability to go offroad a little bit on the weekends. But it also costs four times what I bought my Perentie for and paid to do it up...
El sistema de tracción necesite ser suave pero constante.. cada vez que el defender estaba por agarrar tracción el conductor soltaba el acelerador. Así no se hace en terrain response. Driver issue .
Ok, let us take both cars now on the highway for a 6 hours journey. Let me know how long it takes the old defender to reach its destination. And let me know how comfortable was the driver and passengers.

Loots of wheel spin.... that would never happen in a Class G or a Wrangler Rubicon with the 3 diffs locked and added articulation given by the solid axels.
The new defender is an excelent offroader but not on the same league as the Jeep or Class G.

Its the 110 guys plus stock tyres plus unskilled driver ...and the old defender was 90..so its a win before the race check other videos doin the rock crawling..
SOFT DRUMMER I have seen the old 110 Defender, not sure but the 2 doors in the back are properly seen and I have seen a few videos of the new Defender now, even with BF Goodrich and really good tyres it’s struggling, the electronic is just not worth it

The old one does look slightly modded. Tbh landrover do not make a landrover anymore. We love the brand because it was built around the defender. A work horse in the army on the farm or outside a pub... now the whole line up is nothing but Chelsea tractors. Don't want electrics or bling just want a work horse again please.

@@kfirks Rock Crawl is for slow controlled ascends, to avoid wheel spinning. I don't believe they had Rock Crawl engaged... Rock Crawl: "Rock crawling is about slow-speed, careful and precise driving, and high torque" (source: Wiki).
Drivers where obviously in charge of gas pedal, not the car.

Time to winch I would say. Reverse the 90 it has a good winch on it I believe. Sure it has to with the quality of the driver too. And guys lower the tyre pressure for rock climbing. Sigh.
