Back in the 1940s in England my grandmother was a poor widow with 6 children to care for and a woman from this group came to her door with a small child asking for food and clothes. Even though she didn't have much my grandmother went inside to see what she could find to help the woman and child and while she was distracted doing that they and their associates stole all of her and her children's clothes that were hanging on the wash line out back. After that, they were the only group of people my grandmother didn't like.

This is probably over drugs anyway, so it may be fair game. I think the travellers wouldn't be stupid enough to release the evidence that could get them convicted if they weren't sure that the victim would not use it against them. @@2uentindward A "Traveller" is a politically correct and umbrella term for a Gypsy that generally still travels around a Country in groups of families and dwells in caravans or mobile homes. There are 3 main groups of Travellers in the UK. Irish Gypsies, Roma and New Age Travellers. For Irish Gypsies think of Tyson Fury, or Brad Pitt's character in Snatch. They are not the same as real Gypsies who are the "Roma". The Roma's much older ancestry actually originates from India.
New age travellers are more like hippies that live in communes and take copius amounts of drugs. None of them really mix, but all of them are infamous (and sometimes warranted) for fighting and stealing.

I'll take your word for it since you have a lot more detail and coming from the now defunct Yugoslavia you possibly have Roma ancestry, so who am I to argue.....But I'm right that they are from India before coming to Europe, which is what I heard. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica and the USC Shoah Foundation they originate from the Punjab region of India.
Thank you for giving more depth to these persecuted people. They are possibly the reason Northern European languages have a close connection with Indian Sanskrit as does Romani, and they probably fled the Mughal and Mongolian Empires in India and Central Asia but those are just guesses to be honest. Can you confirm?
...also you say they originate from those now Muslim Countries, so are they originally Muslim or did they move East because of Muslim persecution or was all this during pre-Muslim times?

This is the confidence of people who feel themselves beyond the reach of the law, which they effectively are. The police are always reluctant to deal with them. They strike fear of reprisals into people who stand up to them, and they get away with it. Never allow them anywhere near your property if they offer to do some jobs for you, because not only will it be a lousy job, they will turn up mob handed and your place will be crawling with them, looking to snatch anything that isn’t nailed down and casing the joint for a return visit at 2am one morning.
