      @@plantsbymelissa To clean and disinfect dirty ponds or any pebbles/rocks etc. get a big pot to cook up the dirty ponds. Cook to boil and leave it boiling for no specific time but I usually leave it on the stove for at least an hour to give me time to do something else. Sometimes I leave the pot of dirty substrate boiling until there's no water left because I start doing other things and I forget about it 😆. I use inexpensive metal strainers for pasta that I find at dollar stores to pour the clean ponds and drain out the water.

    I'm glad you posted this video...I was thinking of trying out some kind of support for my pothos plant but I was wondering when would it be better to put it on a support plank or moss pole? Which do you recommend for beginners a plank or moss pole? If a moss pole what's the most efficient way for you has this worked when it comes to watering...keeping it moist...and whether you can extend or not? Thank you

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  2 месяца назад

      I only have experience with moss poles. The only thing with using a plank is if it reaches the top you can't really chop it in half and extend on. I guess you could pull the roots off and try to replant it and place on a new plank but I would think the roots wouldn't have enough growth to maintain the plant once chopped. Maybe someone with experience with planks and comment their experience but I prefer moss poles :)

  • @kristimcswain4439

    Melissa, I would love to add some moss poles to my collection. But, I work part time at a nursery (40% off plant material and 25% off gifts and pottery woot woot) and I’m an rn and work prn pre/post op at KU med. I tried a couple of moss poles and the maintenance was way too much with all of the plant chores I have. I have 100+ plants and I’m in the process of moving everything to pon, which creates big beautiful leaves IMO and I’m happy with that. Moss poles are so messy and dry out so quickly, so I have a lot of respect for you and adore your content and collection, have a great day. Is there a better way to clean your pon than boiling it…Such a hassle?.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  2 месяца назад +1

      They're definitely a lot of maintenance! Mine are usually overgrown when it's time to chop them since I fall so far behind in plant chores. Pon is amazing! I don't think you even really need to sterilize it but I'm going to just for peace of mind lol. I'm not sure if there's an easier way but I just let it sit in boiling water for 10-15 min then rinse it outside.

    My favorites are the pothos and the fig trees. I was buying everything I liked before but there are only so many plants I can handle well. I need to give away a few cuttings.

  • @jpgypsyxo
    @jpgypsyxo 2 месяца назад

    6:42 the good thing too about taking some off of poles is the cuttings will have mature leaves and huge chonks! ❤
    But I do have a question though! When you are chopping and propping and the plant has arial roots, do you just put them straight into prop substrate? or do you trim them back? I’m worried about them rotting if I plant them down into the soil.
    28:39 I started using Velcro tape to hold and guide the new growth closer to the vine so that it stays closer as it hardens off! I’ve noticed it really helps with keeping it compact!

    Beautiful plants, huge leaves, I’m not sure what else to say. Well, it turns out I can think of a few ideas to convey which I doubt surprises you. One, you must be experiencing a high oxygen level with the tremendous amount of photosynthesis taking place at Plantmore Estate. Two, are there any plants left on Pandora? Three, are moss poles made the size of telephone poles? Four, are you well versed in chain saw safety procedures should your plants get any bigger? Five, talented plant parents are said to have green thumbs. If that’s true then you must be solid green through and through. lol, I hope you don’t mind my silly comments but I’m trying to convey respect and thanks in an original way.

    The wire poles are the most cost efficient. Wire cutters are great but I recommend using aviation snips (cutters)/aluminum snip cutters they go by different names easily found at Home Depot but if you have a Harbor Freight in your area they sell goods one for a low price. You'll be cutting like scissors instead of one cut at time and you'll decrease hand scratches. @PlantsbyMelissa
