  • Hybrid SUVs are a great idea...in theory. We're going to test that theory with the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. This is the only traditional hybrid SUV at this size. All of the others can plug in. So today we'll find out if the Corolla Cross Hybrid is in a league of its own, or if there's a reason other automakers aren't doing this.

The previous generation of Toyota hybrids were so slow that they were a deal breaker for me. This is now perfectly adequate and safe (think uphill freeway on-ramps), which now puts it on our list of possible next cars.

The Corolla Cross model is years away from being its best. I'm looking forward to the 2027 model.

Bought one, pretty good car so far. Things I like less are the motor noise on acceleration and foam instead of a spare tire.

Can I ask how much did you pay? Did the the dealership charge more than MSRP? Thanks.

@@MrEnky007 That is a very good price. It's at least $2000 more here in the US.

@@jeffc9511 Nothing major, rear heat shield making noise when closing the door (dealer probably just bent it) and the tires were a bit deformed, probably the holding straps from transportation. Nothing else caught my eye yet.

I really like the looks of it. I think this review suffers from what many reviewers do, like judging cars on stuff that is not as relevant to most people. It´s just the negative attitude that this isn´t a sportscar or a luxury car, which is completely ridiculous. I drive a farily new volvo v60 that is both fast and comfortable, but It´s no where as reliable as my old corolla. I just want something that works and that can be left out in the open in all kinds of weather, that always starts, that i don´t have to worry about etc.

I agree but if you're going to pay $30,000-plus I think you deserve some niceties.

Thanks, i was looking at this Hybrid but not now after your Honest review, Rav 4 XSE looks my favourite.

I like this over the RAV4 because of it's size. RAV4 is too big for me. No kids, nobody using back seats, and SUV must fit inside my garage.

Were you in Eco, Normal, or Sport, during the hard acceleration?
I’d like a comparison of the difference that makes in future reviews. Keep up the good work here. 👍
    - My 2023 Corolla SE Hatchback non-hybrid has a 2.0 / 169HP 4cyl. 32/41mpg and accelerates adequately in Eco, but I’ll occasionally use Sport if I feel the need when passing or getting up to speed.
I was shocked my 2023 Corolla hatch was $25k (found a dealer that sells at MSRP, no markup) and even more shocked that this Corolla Cross XSE hybrid starts at $32k up to $37k!
Really dislike the “frowning face” look from the front view, but otherwise it looks fine for what it is.

With that color you are probably less likely to get hit or cut off. It's overpriced in any trim. You may want to consider a Venza LE if you are looking to spend around 36K.
