    Robert wrote the lyrics of this song about a girlfriend Robert had before his career took off. The girl gave him an ultimatum: me or your musical career. Robert chose the latter. Jimmy Page constructed the entire song on acoustic guitar in his home studio, and arrived at the recording session with the music entirely written. Masterpiece.

      We are all blessed that Robert chose the way he did. But really, there was no question as to which way he would go…he was totally DRIVEN to succeed in music….

    This is the album that caused me to run out and buy every other album of theirs that I did not already own.(I already had their second album and “Houses Of The Holy”). And I wasn’t the only one. All of their albums re-entered the charts after this came out. It made me a die hard fan. You really have to listen to the entire double album. I consider it a masterpiece.

    Very perceptive review of a brilliant song. Our brains and nerves are wired to respond to music as deep communication, which often goes beyond the words only. As high as theyre praised, Led Zeppelin was underrated...

    Jimmy assembled at least 14 guitar tracks to create this using acoustic, electric, and 12-string guitars. The song was intended to be an instrumental, but Robert ended up writing lyrics for it. When performed live, John Paul Jones played a 3-necked instrument that had a mandolin, 12-string, and 6-string guitar and played bass pedals while Jimmy played acoustic. After a while, it became too cumbersome to bring that big instrument out so they dropped it from their set list for a time. Later in their touring career, they brought it back except Jonesy played regular bass while Jimmy played a B-bender Telecaster.

    Turn the headphones around and listen again repeatedly when you listen to led zeppelin Jimmy Page on this song during the lead guitar I wear the head phones so I hear that lead in my left ear, he is playing the rhythm guitar in right. Listen throughout the song only with the right ear you can hear the left but concentrate on the right track of the tape then tell me not what musicianship but even greater is the more genius that line is throughout the song.

    I think you nailed it's overall meaning. Interesting that you picked on the Tupac sample, I was always under the impression that it was not a well known song of his, but I could be wrong about that. Either way, Ten Years Gone has been my favorite Zep song since the moment I heard it. One of LZ's most melancholy composition.

    • @StillColour
      @StillColour  2 года назад

      Yeah that Tupac song is a relatively unpopular song but I've listened to all his OG stuff so my memory didnt fail me! Its such an incredible song, I appreciate you giving this a watch. Do you have any song recommendations?

      @@StillColour One song that I think will blow you away is the live rendition of Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum. I'd listen to both the original studio recording ruclips.net/video/CJxpKlTID2Q/видео.html and then follow it up with the same man (Gary Brooker) singing the same song 39 years later, only he adds a choir and a full orchestra. One of my favorite live performances of all time. ruclips.net/video/St6jyEFe5WM/видео.html Beyond that I was going to recommend Close to the Edge by Yes, but it's an 18 minute opus and it doesn't appear you have reacted to Yes before, and I'd listen to some of their other hits before tackling Close to the Edge. But Close to the Edge is mind-blowing.
