Basement Stairwell Area Demolition! | Removing Old Wood Paneling, Drywall and Framing.

  • In this video, I start remodeling my stairwell to get it up to date and add some extra storage. When I completed the third bedroom, I did new framing and it gave me few extra inches in the wall that I didn't want to go to waste. Even though this area is small, there is a lot of parts to it; demo, insulation and electrical work, drywall- mud- tape- sand - paint, and then building some semi- custom bookcases. I hope that this series can help you and you'll be able to add some more storage and organization to your house and kitchen too.

Just a suggestion. Maybe add a floor trap door to better access the storage space over the stair area. something to stand on. The door could be hinged.

That red flower pattern on the old wall looks original to the 1940s. If it's not too late for the suggestion, maybe save one square's worth of the design, just to put in a frame in the hall to remember where the house started from. I'm a sucker for old elements that survive the years, in general, however garish to godawful they may objectively be. Like, you've found some pretty awesome 60s vinyl patterns in the floors, even if they're not something most people would want to keep anymore & the materials themselves are unusable. Keeping a small reminder of the past can also just be a mood booster to be proud of not having to deal with the unsalvageable old crud in the present.

You could also replace it with something modern to go with the new look you are going to be going with.

With twins coming you’re going to need all the storage space you can get! (Oops they’re already here by now lol)

If you knew that space was there, why didn't you use it for bedroom? I'm just asking, not in a hateful or snarky way 😄

Hey, good question! There were a few different reasons for doing it that way but the main reason was to have the bedroom wall straight and to have that extra space for storage. 😃 Thanks for asking!
