Good brake down !!! I have a DG painted Car form the Factory 1991 Porsche 911 C2 looks Great Mint Green !!! Wen I paint it I will use Single Sage Paint Glasurit You can blend it by anding some Clear too color !!! You get what U pay for …..
I’ve cleared over DG before which kind of does the same thing. In some cases a spectro reading and mixing variant was a closer match in DG compared with COB . So I used to mix and paint in dg and paint it the same as cob and clear it lol . Saved so much time and gains better UV protection 👌
Great video which breaks down a ton of info which can cause a lot of confusion. For solid colours, can you use both syestems of DG amd COB? Or are solid colours used only in DG systems and COB is for metallics? Thanks for the info 👍
good question, my brother keeps telling me I need clear on a 'Lettuce Alone' HQ SS that I'm ready to paint ... but I'm not so sure about that. I thought all HQs (and other oldies) where only clear on base for metallics.
@@RoverIAC same I did a lot of research it says COB is more for metallics, however I found heaps of videos and online stuff where professionals are clearing over a DG so I was a bit confused. Im doing my engine bay in DG and if it isn't as glossy, I'll rub it back and clear it as it seems its a common thing.
@@zolkoz4209 I'm thinking the newer cars (post 86ish) have the extra clear coat just so it can peel off a few years later and make you think about buying a new one. (I'm after that original 70s look)
question i see cars from 2000 to 2010 with the factory paint (not the clear) peeling off down to the primmer have you seen this and what in your opinion is the reason. thanks mate
A lot of it is a issue with the paint from the factory . I remember PPG had an issue with their solid DG white delaminating off their cars around 2000 . The same with Toyota . I did repaint some of them back in those days . And I even rectified other painters paintwork in cob for the same reason . We never got told of the reason . Some would say the preparation underneath wasn’t sufficient but everything was sanded with 320 in those days for DG and still had the issue
If you get a chance, try out Florite coatings 614 EPORITE 2K EPOXY ZINC PHOSPHATE PRIMER. I found it great to use, good build, easy sanding, price ok. Everyone is fixated on names like the old EPOTEC but there are many good products out there.
Yikes! I sanded down to metal and good original anti-rust coat (on an HQ) and then when straight to several coats of anti-rust and then high-fill primer.... and that's where I'm up to. I hope that's going to be okay.
Thanks, very informative.
Awesome mate all the questions i wanted answers for in one episode Your a legend
Cheers mate

Cool vid. Very detailed. Cheers
Hi mate. With sanding the epoxy, do you use a 240 around edges and window frames or a finer grit? Cheers.
Glad you liked it
