@Patrick.B223 i definitely recommend them. The neck is really decent, and the body is solid. I would upgrade the hardware, but that's for any kit, really. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
Been working on a PGK Flying V kit for my son’s Christmas present. I’m not new to woodworking so I thought it wouldn’t be too difficult to get that perfect finish. Wow was I totally wrong. The stain I used for the quilted maple top didn’t penetrate enough and sanded through. The three coats of paint on the back and sides wore through during wet sanding and buffing. The 15 coats of nitro lacquer weren’t put on thick enough and wore through in wet sand and buffing. The three coats of epoxy resin fill I used on the white limba wood wasn’t nearly enough and there were big pours that never got filled…which of course now have white compound built up in them from the buffing. Etc etc etc. the fit and mechanicals are turning out great but the finish….yeah well…”son, I used this technique called relic to finish your guitar….”
@06barcafan10 your son will love it, it is a big learning curve, I started to go through my clear coat as well and as soon as I see some stain colour when wet sanding I stop and put a couple more coats on. But you built it for him, and I'm sure he is going love it and play the heck out of it! Thanks for your comment and for sharing your experience. When you finish it, if you have IG, give me a tag in it. I'd love to see it.
The maple top of your guitar is much more beautiful than all 20 plus guitars I have, even expensive ones are less than yours. very very amazing painting! seriously, I wish I would have the maple top like you did. 👏👏
I really appreciate your comment! And yeah i lucked out with nice quilting. the staining with light sand backs each layer really helps build depth. I am thinking about potentially doing a guitar build and give away in the future so stay tuned! Thanks again for your kind words!
@@JeanDo yeah Its a VERY thin veneer. not many kits have a solid top unless you are paying out a lot of $$$, the hard part with veneers is not sanding through haha.
Great build man! I need to get me a kit, your PRS kit turned out great, Id like to get a Ibanez 700 kit, an do the oil rub, like wom Rubio monocoat , depending on wood type, gotta have the curly maple though.
Hey thanks for your kind words! I was going to do a classic shellac French polish on this originally but i could not get any shellac flakes. Have you used Rubio monocoat before?
@ Man look, I wish I had the talent you provided for the world to see here. Most are more concerned with failure while some of the best builders start out like you. You have certainly inspired me with the beautiful work of art you created here.😍😍😍
Great finish, what colors did you use for the Leather Dye and how did you dilute? Starting my first Solo finish and really like what you came up with here.
I used fiebings red , yellow and blue leather dye. and to dilute you can use 91 to 99 percent alcohol. The one step i didnt do which is a must is to apply an sanding sealer AFTER you dye it and then sand it back lightly and then apply your clear or oil coat. Also be careful not to sand through the veneer if it has one. but they also apply a sanding sealer so you need to sand that off lightly before you dey it or the dye wont take. be careful
Great build mate! I would have grain filled and coloured the body back as I like darker wood, each to his own though. What are the tuners, pickups like?
@AndrewAHayes Thanks! Yeah I debated grain filling, what i actually did but didn't show was I used an 800 grit and wet sanded with the oil which acted as a natural grain filler. Tuners were garbage I put gold lockers on. Pick ups actually sound ok, I will uploadba video of me playing when I get compressfigured out, it would compress and cut the sound out bad lol. Overall it's pretty decent but I will upgrade the bridge and saddle to gold and grab some alinco pickups
I did use multiple of polyurethane, honestly i wasn't happy with the poly, ill probably due a true oil or nitro for the next finish. Appreciate your comment and view!
@mattiecreates you got a good video rec so I know what to follow so it looks like yours? I'm super interested in doing one of these but in a yellow burst
@@kenjikodai A yellow burst would be really cool, hope you build it! One thing i didnt do which i would HIGHLY suggest is to spray a sanding sealer AFTER you are done your staining. I will show that process and slow it down alot more on the next build i do.

That top is freakin amazing.. You brought it to life my friend..Beautiful finish!..
Thank you I really appreciate that!.
I did my best for what I had lol.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
@mattiecreates The finish looks like a dragon heart or something.. The orange or yellow around the pick up area really adds to the depth..
@@Bmonty7777 Thank you, Yeah i knew i wanted a burst of some type and just played around with the colors i knew i wanted in it.
Really nice job! That top is better than many PRS

@@mattiecreates what lacquer you use for body and neck on this guitar?

I finished some knife handles with truoil. You can get a glass-like finish, but you can scratch it with a fingernail
