I gotta be honest I really enjoy SoD. The pacing makes it seem like less of a time sink. I think the biggest thing to consider is that people have lived and can’t justify playing 14 hours a week on one game. Really gamers play other games too. People who just play wow tend to have other priorities in life. The alts seemed more doable on the 1-25 scale. Everyone got pretty burned out being stuck inside SM for 20 hours. So the alt game play went down. Of the 7 new dungeons possible to complete and 1 raid. 2 of them (pig places) have similar themes. 4 of them(SM) share basically the exact same thing. And one of them is completely unique(uldaman). And the one raid is basically not being ran as often as BFD. Other than that I think it’s fun and is exactly where it’s expected to be as far as population goes. Everyone has their 1-2 alts they want to log on for 2-4 hours a week on an do the content. I think the phases really helped get a larger population to the finish line then was possible before when there was a 1-60 gap and 100 hours of dungeon grinds before you could raid
o ye from 25-40 is just stupid spam, and most viable quest zones even are to crowded, to lvl and have fun, like STV hunting quests, or mage spam in Arati, got 5 lvl 25 toons, now only 1 lvl 40 and 3 toosn stuced around 34 lvl.
honestly i'd say that even OSRS does too many changes. as someone who took a long break, trying to return felt like a completely different game even though the base mechanics are pretty much the same. you can still do the old activities, but often they get obliterated in efficiency by any newer stuff that covers similar ground. especially in the combat and gold making department. and the new stuff that isn't efficient quickly becomes bloat that you maybe interact with a handful of times for diaries.
SoD is the most fun I've ever had playing WoW and quite frankly the only way some of the meme specs have been fun to try out. I don't really care what the server population looks like as long as I have enough players to do content with, which currently is WAAAAY more than adequate. There is some jank, but I'm enjoying the shake up.

Sorry but the Info about that "playerdrop" is not what i think is reflecting the reality, those numbers are "raid logs" and on 07.02 P2 came so obviously people are leveling and not raiding, so comparing those numbers is not fair at all, especially on top not everyone got already lvl 40 and raided. Wait 1-2 weeks and im pretty sure numbers will be again very close to before p2

i am a dad gamer - one of those middle aged man that still like playing an old game and i think SoD is classic for retail players - it feels more like retail than anything else in my optiion i paly about 6 hrs a day, some days i even have about 8 in mage age thats pletny of time, its enough to be competetive in pve in all phases of classic my issue is, sod feels like cheating in GTA - its fun for 2 or 3 days but then it sucks everything is SO OP also its changing to much , jake is right classic is about knowlege and the long run - not about rushing a mew GS - when i see those clowns looking for a certain GS i wanna vomit this GS addon is ridicolus :D but ye - i am just a dad gamer what do i know
I can’t imagine getting to 60 in era. The only way I will see 60 is with phases that SoD introduced. As far as getting gold for consumes using an alt in 20 mans… see the first part of my comment. Vanilla might be brain dead and tuned to the difficulty that a drooling vegetable can raid on, but the time investment needed to get to the point of raiding, let alone doing that twice to use gdkp to fund raid consumes as suggested locks out many like me that just can’t invest that much time.
I don't really understand why people keep saying the population dropped? Isn't this graph exactly what anyone actually playing SoD would've expected? Virtually every player I know had at least 1 alt and many had up to 3. With the start of phase 2 virtually everyone has dropped their alts to focus on their mains and over the next few weeks they MIGHT pick their alts back up. So just saying the pop getting slashed in half honestly makes a lot of sense to me. As a side note I DO think phase 2 will retain less players because there are a list of downgrades compared to phase 1. Dungeons drop almost no gear that matters to anyone, and what little they do was probably obtained while levelling. There are very few BoEs that matter. There isn't much reason to go into the open world. STV is a boring lagfest most of the time. Holy shit FUCK arathi basin. At least gnomer is a pretty fun raid I guess...
