This song was performed by RIKKI in 2001, and she still occasionally tours with the official FF Distant Worlds Orchestra! On some dates, this song is also performed by the amazing Susan Calloway. Her version is part of the official Distant Worlds album release.
I haven't heard this song in more than 15 years...the nostalgia is flooding back in and tears are welling up (If you know you know). Thanks for reacting to this song!
Final fantasy x is a beautiful game and the ost is beautiful as well. Highly recommended for you to play. If you are interested in reacting, the song "To Zanarkand" from FFX is Uematsu's favourite song.
Truly an amazing song. This game is a masterpiece❤️playing it again since a few days ago. Thanks for choosing this piece for a reaction. And as always thank you for your honest opinion. :D
This particular track was sooo popular in its days that it even got an Vietnamese official version, that I also like a lot. I do have to say that my personal favorite version is the orchestral arrangement of this song :D And I've always loved RIKKI ever since this song came out, but when Revo also had her in his band, I fell even more in love with her - she has a really beautiful voice :3 I had put a cover on the discord before, but there is actually an official vocalized version of Aerith's Theme, also sung by RIKKI, named "Pure Heart" :D
Well, if you play FFX, I'm hyped It's my favorite game ever The story is moving, this game is nearly a spiritual experience to me Masashi Hamauzu (FFVII Remake, FFXIII,...) and Uematsu did an amazing job with the soundtrack This game is a transcending experience
Nobuo Uematsu was solo composer on the main series up to IX, lead composer with assistance on X and XI, and solo composer on XIV 1.0 at launch. Songs added in XIV's 1.x patches were composed by Soken and a couple others, then Soken solo composed I think up until Shadowbringers when he started delegating a little more. The only songs not in that launch soundtrack for XIV composed by Uematsu were Dragonsong for Heavensward and Revolutions for Stormblood, the only songs other than Answers to have Susan Calloway on vocals (apart from some arrangements of Answers that use samples of her singing). Oh, and Uematsu composed a new theme for FFVII Remake, Hollow. I think that's a pretty comprehensive list of everything he's done on Final Fantasy.
FFX is my favourite game of all time. this song reminds me so much of my childhood and how it made me so emotional at what was happening. Thank you for reacting to it!
I don't have the nostalgia for FFX like most because I mainly discovered the franchise later in my life, but this is one of those FF songs that I would randomly hear in my head despite not having played it much back then. This game is truly one of the greats.
Ive played through FFX many times, its one of my favorite games of all time. One of the best stories ive experienced, its funny, serious, heartbreaking. A masterpiece.
Oh my god. Jesse.... Please please please. FF7 was my always my favorite, but then I played this one (FF10) and it is tied for me. It is SOOO good. I know I'm just one random person, but I just had to let you know that if you played this game as well, it would literally make my day. Have a good one man.
I just realized recently that Suteki Da Ne shares a similar lietmotif(?) to many other tracks from FFX. I struggle not to cry, every time, considering the context of the lyrics hint at a major plotpoint...a really bittersweet one that always fucks me up. 😭 Don't know if you've had a chance to play FFX, but if you do, wait until you beat the game to look up the translation of the lyrics (if needed)...there's a reason the song has that somber tone tied into the romantic vibe. It's just...when it finally clicks, it'll hit hard. At least, it did for me... 🥺
All I got to say is, if he’s not played this game yet, he can’t possibly imagine what kind of emotions are flowing for us growing up in the early 2000’s when we hear this song. It’s more than just a song, it was a chapter in our lives. I can’t describe it.
About FF songs localization: 7 choirs were in latin for every region. 8 theme song were in English for every region. Also have some memorable choirs in latin. 9 have the main theme song in both Japanese and English sung by the same artist. 10 main theme songs are only in Japanese for every region. Have an iconic lyrical choir or chanting that has no meaning in any language for every region too. Suggest that it's invented language by the game's lore. But actually Japanese words in abnormal order. 10-2 main theme songs have 2 version of the same song sung by different artist in English and Japanese. 12 main theme songs have Japanese and English versions sung by the same artist again. Like 9. 14 has a huge amount and variation of themes throughout these years. Only one version for all of region. Mostly in English. There are some Japanese too especially in Stromblood expansion that exploring far east culture. Also some invented language like dragon song. I forgot about 13 and 15. 13 have a beautiful theme song but it doesn't stick to me. And 15 featuring Skrillex and a beautiful version of Stand By Me. But for me it feels too generic and I didn't listen to them much. So I might miss the details or if there are any other versions. But I think they both have only one version of the song for every region. Beside the main numeric titles. Crisis Core FF7 have a beautiful emotional Japanese theme song too. And the remaster version would be available this year on almost every platform. recommend to play following the 7 remake. And I have to mention another 7 compilation Dirge of Cerberus also have a theme song sung by a legendary J-Rock artist too. He also join the cast of CC as one of the important character. Another non numeric FF with theme song is Type-0. Sung by Japanese artist as one version for every region too. CC, DC and Type-0 are straight up modern J-Rock and J-Pop. Unlike 10 that's district Japanese style.
I still think ffx has one of the best stories out of any video game I've played. Its my favorite game from my childhood that ive played through at least 7 times, usually every summer in between school years id play through it once. The music and story throughout the game are incredible. I still havent experienced a game that gave me this kind of storytelling and character development. To add, at 28 years old, I still cry when I listen to To Zanarkand and Suteki Da Ne, the memories they bring back ill never forget playing through this game for the first time.
Play FF X. It is a great game, but more, the story, the characters...it's an experience that will stay will you. There is a reason this song hits the feels hard for anyone that beat it. I think part of it is that the world of Spira and the characters feel...well...more real then in other games. You easily get vested and lose yourself to it. FF X is one of my top five games all-time, and I've been playing since the Atari 2600 days. XD
One Winged Angel was the first song in Final Fantasy history to have vocals. Liberi Fatali from Final Fantasy VIII(not sure if you've heard that one, but highly recommend) Was the first fully orchestrated song in the franchises history, though both VIII and IX had at least one song that had actual singing and orchestration. FFX was the first one to have a fully orchestrated soundtrack completely, as well as voice acting, as you mentioned. The trend and quality have only continued to increase since then.
Hi. :) I came across your channel because of reaction to this song, I just love this one, one of the most beautiful songs from video games I've ever heard, I mean such songs with vocals. First such song was in Final Fantasy VIII, song "Eyes On Me" where as vocal was chinese female singer Faye Wong. And I think in Final Fantasy X Nobuo Uematsu wanted to have someone to help. I don't know how is in remaster version with "Suteki da ne" song, but in old version is in japanese also in versions of game outside of Japan. You reacted only to music from video games?
Top 3 soundtracks from FF: VII / Remake XIV X X was a big departure from previous games with lots of different instruments used. If you get the chance, "To Zanarkand" is an incredible piano piece. It also has an orchestral version.
i think the English translation seen in the mini vid is from the English vocal arrangement used in the US distant worlds concerts. it's sort of somber as it's a love song tied to the two being kept apart by their circumstances, it means different things for a lot of people as it's one of the big leitmotifs throughout the game. You hear it bright and happy very near the start as a town theme, then here, and a few other places too.
So back in the day when they announced the name of the song before the game's release there was another song of the same name with a similar melancholy style (though it sounded pretty different) and there was mass confusion for about a month.
Yeah this song plays fairly late and during a cutscene and no more said about it. I've played X a few times over the years and feel like my fondness for it grows a little more each time and while not my favourite FF, it's up there. Anyway this was one of the songs Uematsu composed. X in general has some songs I really love. Hopefully more pop up here
the first of many times i cried at a video game was here i believe, played this when i was 5-13 with several different saves but once i finally got here it was worth it aha. formative memories...
FFX isn't one of my favourites, but I think you would enjoy it, and it would definitely be fun to watch a playthrough. This song gets me every time. A lot of the soundtrack has such a melancholy, sad-but-beautiful vibe to it, which perfectly matches the story. You were spot-on with your thoughts; death and ritual are big themes in this one. It's a tear-jerker, for sure!
FFX is "my" Final Fantasy, and one of my top favorite video games/RPGs. Love the soundtrack, the story, and the characters, and it only gets better as I get older. And yes, this song is kept in Japanese when it plays in the game!
It was actually the sequel to FFX (FFX-2) that got me into FF. I saw a poster with the the 3 main characters (Yuna, Rikku, and Paine) at a game store and as a young boy with raging hormones, that was all it took for me to be interested. My interests in FF games have changed since that point of course (although I have had a crush on Yuna since). Also If you liked this one, hopefully Eyes on Me from FFVIII and 1000 Words from FFX-2 (the english version since it has the duet) are on the list for future reactions.
FFX is the first title in the franchise to hit the PS2, so it's the first DVD; 7-9 required multiple CDs on the PSX. It's beloved by many, because of the generational leap, so many younger gamers consider it their first, & therefore their favorite. It's not particularly in my top 5, but it has redeeming qualities. As for regarding Suteki da Ne, it is only officially in Japanese, & interestingly enough, it's not the prevailing song throughout the game. The Hymn of the Fayth has more leitmotifs, but we'll save elaboration of that for another time just in case you want organic context later.
Actually, fun fact! Suteki da Ne is Yuna's leitmotif! You hear it in Braska's Daughter and Yuna's Theme, with the most obvious use being A Fleeting Dream. But you also hear it in Spira Unplugged!
@@evar.7093 I knew it had some somewhere, just wasn't sure which specific tracks since it's been a while. I still think Hymn has more versions? But it's nice to know it's not a one off.
Distant Worlds (the live show FF concerts) did an English lyric version one year that you can find. I think the vocals in that version are done by the same woman who sings Answers/Dragonsong from FF14, etc. but don't take my word for it.
FFX is the first FF game where Uematsu was a co-composer. He was one of three composers who worked on the game. The track in question, Suteki Da Ne, was actually composed by Uematsu though. Also, definitely play FFX if you get the chance. It's excellent. My personal favorite FF.
Unofficial English translation from Fandom My heart swam in The words brought by the wind The clouds carry my voice as it Bounces into tomorrow The moon is shaking in the mirror As my heart trembles The stars are flowing, And soft tears are spilling Isn't it wonderful If we could just take each other's hand and walk? I want to go To your city, your home, in your arms On your chest, I leave my body And dream In the night The wind has stopped and the words Are a gentle illusion The clouds are breaking and tomorrow Is a distant voice The moon blurs the mirror As my heart flows through The stars shake, and tears spill, Tears I can't hide Isn't it wonderful If we could just take each other's hand and walk? I want to go To your city, your home, in your arms I touch Your face softly And dream of melting In the morning Isn't it wonderful if we could just take each other's hand and walk? I want to go to your city, your home, in your arms On your chest, I leave my body And dream In the night
The song actually plays kind of in the middle of the game, from what I remember. FFX is definitely my favorite. The all the cast and music is great, I love the battle system, and it does that thing where you really notice certain things on a second viewing. The world of that game is pretty detailed and thought out. If you don't end up playing it for whatever reason, I would recommend Dansg08's 100% playthrough. He avoids talking about things early about stuff early, so you shouldn't get moments ruined that way. It was cool seeing such a fan of the game talk about different things I never would have noticed and some background things.
Besides this song being absolutely beautiful (it's one of the most beautiful songs in FF and maybe videogames in general) it's cool to hear that you think about trying out more games, especially Final Fantasy. To throw my two cents in with that topic: If you want to play a more classic FF I recommend VI or IX. VI started the transition of FF into the more tech-heavy era that mostly stayed until XV (at least in terms of singleplayer mainline FFs) and is regarded as one of the best, if not the best and it's my second favorite singleplayer FF. FFIX on the other hand was this huge loveletter to the more classic, medieval fantasy FFs (aka FFI-V, maybe VI) and it's my favorite because it has a cool cast of characters, the darkest themes of any mainline FF, a great antagonist, (a great mod for PC called "Moguri" that replaces all of the pre-rendered backgrounds with AI-upscaled high quality ones and has a bunch of other graphical fixes and improvements) the most unique artstyle of any mainline FF (which some hate and some love) and the single most beautiful ending cutscene/cinematic not only in the franchise, but all of gaming imo. I cry everytime I see it and I'm not joking. (FFX's ending cutscene is also extremely good, easily top 5, maybe even second place)
_X_ was actually my first game in the franchise, I think. And it's easily up there for my favorites in the franchise, though granted I've only played maybe half the mainline series.
One of my fav ff songs for many reasons, some how always manages to make me both happy and sad at the same time...maybe because i can be a romantic lol (also you should totally play it jesse! ^^)
The information pinned at the top of the comment section of this video that says "RIKKI is an Okinawan singer" is incorrect. I'm Japanese and a fan of Nobuo Uematsu and RIKKI, so I'd like to give you the correct information. RIKKI is a singer from "Amami Oshima" in Kagoshima Prefecture, not Okinawa! . She is also the youngest singer to win the Japan Folk Song Award. That's why RIKKI incorporates the unique vocal style of Amami folk songs into his ballads and pop songs, rather than Okinawan Ryukyu folk songs
FF X is my fav ! And it's OST is too ! Uematsu worked on it too, but wasn't the only composer working on it. If you want to play it, just go for it. (And indeed, the video was spoiler heavy, almost right from the beginning x)
FFX's soundtrack is very high up there for me personally. Certainly one of the best parts of an already great game overall. When I played FFX for the first time, I was actually a big hater, simply because it's story is rather simple and not as convoluted and multi-layered as I was used to from other JRPGs. However now I'm thinking differently. While I still think that the plot is relatively minimalistic (at least for the genre), the whole narrative benefits from it. On top of that the world and characters are just wonderful, the gameplay is flawless, it's technically extremely well-rounded and the music is beautiful. It's the perfect entry for someone who never played a Final Fantasy before. (although you might get the impression, like me, that Final Fantasy is generally a bit flat when it comes to story, which is not true) It's hard to make a top 3 of Final Fantasy soundtracks. Because they are all great. Even if the game is bad (looking at FF13 and FF15), you can always bed that the soundtrack is awesome. (which they are) But if I really had to make a top three, I'd pick: FFXIV (this is a cheat with so many hundreds of tracks including some of the best of FF1-6 as well as FF12 on top of its own great original music) FFVII (Best character themes I've ever heard in my life) FFX (Radiates an atmosphere which always makes me cry)
Very nostalgic. 20 years and going.. video game orchestras still play To Zanarkand, Suteki Da Ne.. etc. The story was very original too… it could still blow modern video games out of theway in terms of music and storytelling.
@Jesse's Auditorium As far as soundtracks go in the final fantasy series it is up there, and the ending theme to FFX was voted #1 in a top 100 final fantasy songs of all time, so yeah, take from that what you will :)
There are two versions of the song in the game, but both have Japanese lyrics. I don't know whether there's an official English version or not. You also summed up the tone of the song *perfectly* - FFX is about death and grief and perseverance in the face of both those things. (Do very much recommend playing it.)
I would reaaallly love to watch you play Final Fantasy X! There is a lot of amazing music in there, and it probably ranks in my top 3 soundtracks (FF VII, FF VIII, FFX in no particular order). If you don't end up playing it, I hope we can get some more reactions from it at least ^^
FFVIII and FFIX had no voices (just maybe some choir here and there), but since FFVIII each title has its own sung theme. "Eyes on me" for FFVIII, "Melodies of Life" for FFIX, the one you jusy reacted, "Kiss me Goodbye" for FFXII. Quite pop songs.

Man, the ending to this game. What a masterpiece.
I’m 31 years old and the first time I played ffx it was when I was 10. I remember very well running to my house after school to play it…u don’t know how much ur video made me cry dude…I’m glad I still have the game on my old ps2.
"To Zanarkand" is sooooooo good
This, and 1000 Words tear me up every freakin time
Truly an amazing song. This game is a masterpiece❤️playing it again since a few days ago. Thanks for choosing this piece for a reaction. And as always thank you for your honest opinion. :D
This particular track was sooo popular in its days that it even got an Vietnamese official version, that I also like a lot. I do have to say that my personal favorite version is the orchestral arrangement of this song :D
And I've always loved RIKKI ever since this song came out, but when Revo also had her in his band, I fell even more in love with her - she has a really beautiful voice :3 I had put a cover on the discord before, but there is actually an official vocalized version of Aerith's Theme, also sung by RIKKI, named "Pure Heart" :D
Well, if you play FFX, I'm hyped
It's my favorite game ever
The story is moving, this game is nearly a spiritual experience to me
Masashi Hamauzu (FFVII Remake, FFXIII,...) and Uematsu did an amazing job with the soundtrack
This game is a transcending experience
Iconic song! So beautiful and after you play the game, it hits so hard!
Her voice sounds like an instrument, perfectly put lol
FFX is my favourite game of all time. this song reminds me so much of my childhood and how it made me so emotional at what was happening. Thank you for reacting to it!
The scene that goes with this song makes it THAT much more beautiful!!
this song is so insanely beautiful.
I don't have the nostalgia for FFX like most because I mainly discovered the franchise later in my life, but this is one of those FF songs that I would randomly hear in my head despite not having played it much back then. This game is truly one of the greats.
I just teared up hearing this damn song again. Grown adults cry like a baby during this scene.
No one is random here :)
You never know! Very busy person, but at least I've considered it enough to not look at footage. Who KnOoOowS
you deserve a like and a subscribe for appreciating a classic
I just realized recently that Suteki Da Ne shares a similar lietmotif(?) to many other tracks from FFX. I struggle not to cry, every time, considering the context of the lyrics hint at a major plotpoint...a really bittersweet one that always fucks me up. 😭
Don't know if you've had a chance to play FFX, but if you do, wait until you beat the game to look up the translation of the lyrics (if needed)...there's a reason the song has that somber tone tied into the romantic vibe. It's just...when it finally clicks, it'll hit hard.
At least, it did for me... 🥺
Susan Calloway sings this song at distant worlds as well, I know you have mentioned that you enjoy her vocals
All I got to say is, if he’s not played this game yet, he can’t possibly imagine what kind of emotions are flowing for us growing up in the early 2000’s when we hear this song. It’s more than just a song, it was a chapter in our lives. I can’t describe it.
I love this song, the fellings always comes up. This is so nostalgic. I'm literally crying at the moment😭
About FF songs localization:
7 choirs were in latin for every region.
This is probably my favourite song from X. There's a few other ones from the OST I like but in general I rate it sort of in the middle.
It's socially very relevant to many of the issues that the world faces today.
Timeless Masterpeace . Even 500 years and beyond in the future and not just nostalgia
XD
There's an incredible english version of this on the distant worlds album II, definitely worth a listen as well!
Even after all these years this song still gets me. FFX was my first final fantasy game.
WOAAAH. I did not expect this one! FFX is my favorite game of all time. The story and music is incredible.
Actually the song plays twice and has some places where it plays in an instrumental form. It's truly a beautiful song for a beautiful game and story.
Top 3 soundtracks from FF:
VII / Remake
XIV
X
X was a big departure from previous games with lots of different instruments used.
FFVIII has a track with full vocals, Eyes on Me
Eyes on Me is well worth a listen! One of my favourite FF tracks.
And then FF9 has Melodies of Life; always loved when they add one.
6:57 The background music there remind me of the town music from FF1 xD
So back in the day when they announced the name of the song before the game's release there was another song of the same name with a similar melancholy style (though it sounded pretty different) and there was mass confusion for about a month.
This song stirs up so many emotions
Yeah this song plays fairly late and during a cutscene and no more said about it. I've played X a few times over the years and feel like my fondness for it grows a little more each time and while not my favourite FF, it's up there. Anyway this was one of the songs Uematsu composed. X in general has some songs I really love. Hopefully more pop up here
I remember people hating this song when it was introduced in the trailer of the game, and then people stopped hating it after they played the game.
My favourite song of all time thank you 😊
the first of many times i cried at a video game was here i believe, played this when i was 5-13 with several different saves but once i finally got here it was worth it aha. formative memories...
Gonna need to get "Eyes on Me" from FFVIII and "Melodies of Life" from FFIX one the list now ;)
Hey Jesse 🤗 Yes 9 has voice acting, too. Very wonderful song called "Melodies of life" 🥰But didn't hurt so much like "suteki da ne" 😉
FFX is "my" Final Fantasy, and one of my top favorite video games/RPGs. Love the soundtrack, the story, and the characters, and it only gets better as I get older. And yes, this song is kept in Japanese when it plays in the game!
I waited all day for this my favorite game of all time!
My favorite Final Fantasy game, just ahead of 9 & 7. This track hits hard.
Love this game! I think the gameplay has aged really well so you'd have a blast playing it.
Never heard of this version😭😭😭😭😍😍😍😍
The greatest Final Fantasy game ever made! This is where Square peaked.
One of my all time favorite Final Fantasy song! 😢❤
What a game. Made me cry so hard. this is master nobuo.
Distant Worlds (the live show FF concerts) did an English lyric version one year that you can find. I think the vocals in that version are done by the same woman who sings Answers/Dragonsong from FF14, etc. but don't take my word for it.
Oh God I promised myself I wouldn't cry...
FFX is the first FF game where Uematsu was a co-composer. He was one of three composers who worked on the game. The track in question, Suteki Da Ne, was actually composed by Uematsu though.
Also, definitely play FFX if you get the chance. It's excellent. My personal favorite FF.
Unofficial English translation from Fandom
My heart swam in
The words brought by the wind
The clouds carry my voice as it
Bounces into tomorrow
The moon is shaking in the mirror
As my heart trembles
The stars are flowing,
And soft tears are spilling
Isn't it wonderful
If we could just take each other's hand and walk?
I want to go
To your city, your home, in your arms
On your chest,
I leave my body
And dream
In the night
The wind has stopped and the words
Are a gentle illusion
The clouds are breaking and tomorrow
Is a distant voice
The moon blurs the mirror
As my heart flows through
The stars shake, and tears spill,
Tears I can't hide
Isn't it wonderful
If we could just take each other's hand and walk?
I want to go
To your city, your home, in your arms
I touch
Your face softly
And dream of melting
In the morning
Isn't it wonderful
if we could just take each other's hand and walk?
I want to go
to your city, your home, in your arms
On your chest,
I leave my body
And dream
In the night
I’d like to recommend Zanarkand next probably the most iconic track in the game!
Second this!
third this! not just in the game but in the entire series as well
I remember when I heard this for the first time on PS2. Hearing it again makes my eyes water again
I'd recommend one of Uematsu's favorites : To Zanarkand
_X_ was actually my first game in the franchise, I think. And it's easily up there for my favorites in the franchise, though granted I've only played maybe half the mainline series.
One of the most somber songs that came out in FFX. Especially crushing when it was played twice
My favorite game of all time. :)
One of my fav ff songs for many reasons, some how always manages to make me both happy and sad at the same time...maybe because i can be a romantic lol (also you should totally play it jesse! ^^)
Great vid! Few games influenced me as much as FFX
(although you might get the impression, like me, that Final Fantasy is generally a bit flat when it comes to story, which is not true)
It's hard to make a top 3 of Final Fantasy soundtracks. Because they are all great. Even if the game is bad (looking at FF13 and FF15), you can always bed that the soundtrack is awesome. (which they are) But if I really had to make a top three, I'd pick:
FFXIV (this is a cheat with so many hundreds of tracks including some of the best of FF1-6 as well as FF12 on top of its own great original music)
FFVII (Best character themes I've ever heard in my life)
FFX (Radiates an atmosphere which always makes me cry)
Always love this game story, even i finish it a couple time.
I'm glad he picked the best version out there, with the best violin solo
Very nostalgic. 20 years and going.. video game orchestras still play To Zanarkand, Suteki Da Ne.. etc. The story was very original too… it could still blow modern video games out of theway in terms of music and storytelling.
Also, yes, highly recommend to play it for the story. Suteki Da Ne translates to “Isn’t it Beautiful”
Why I love you: You hair and beard look so cool!
My personal favorite track from X.
It's not the song that plays at the end, but you are right about it playing at a very pivotal point in the story.
FFX single Handedly made Summons legendary. FF16 is making a massive summons game
