Excellent advice. I used to have unbelievable power and control, I could let my air out slowly over a very long period of time, 1 quick excited breth and I could produce a loud, rich tone, sound with gorgeous timbre and I could hold that note for over a minute, even if I had belted the note out, singing along with Edwin McCain's - "I'll Be" the last note of the bridge for the word 'Can', I believe that it's a B note(or actually, it could be an F# = 5th of B, it's been a long time... I played it on guitar, so I should know, but since I damaged my voice I haven't sang nearly as much. I wanted to give my vocal folds time to heal. Sadly, I have a distortion in my voice that when I hold open my throat, as I was taught, to dance on the notes, holding back just a little bit and controlling the flow, it has a noisy buzz to the tone. I also have to explell a lot of air in order to produce much sound, and since the last car accident I was in, I had injured my back and neck, I was bedridden for many years, so I had given up on life, excruciating pain is debilitating. So I had started smoking again and lost my powerful lung capacity. I can still sing, but not anymore near like I used to. But I am determined to heal my back, neck and voice, lungs and vocal abilities.
    Do you have any recommendations...???
    I would truly appreciate it.
Thank you very much and God Bless You

10 years ago I found your videos and that was my first singing class ever, I learned how to stay in tune and control my diaphragm, so when I went to a voice class in my town, I was singing in a very good level, so that was easy to me and I'm thankful for what I learned from you. Thank you. (today I'm a metal singer, this is not my professional profile)

Eric, you're something else. I really appreciate your short youtube lessons. I've also purchased your Bootcamp for Breathing on Udemy and that is excellent as well. Thanks for all you do. Much appreciated!

Since this is latest video from Eric I have to say his stuff works. I am on my third day of phase 1 and sound already better. My family thought I did funny sounds during my lip and tongue warmups, but damn it works!!! Excited to see where this leads after finished phase I. I am still not sure what voice type I am for the warmups but I found using "medium" was more fun. Before I only managed to score 5000 for a song in a karaoke app , now I score 20000+ and can keep tone long time. If that what you call it :)

I have the opposite problem of trying to overpower everything lol. I don't know how to stop turning everything into a belt. I've only been singing for a few months. Once I get to G4, I don't know how to resist the urge to go for the moon.

try to sing with just enough effort for your tone/sound to come out. don't engage too much or else your sound will get too strong. u should try singing into a straw with as little effort as possible (but still using correct diaphragmatic support ofc) to allow your voice to hit a (high) note (like g4-c5) comfortably. you will develop vocal strength and steady breath control this way too if you keep practicing!
