    HOW I REVIEW:
    As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.
    DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:
    A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.
    LINKS:
    For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals.
    For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.

    I've been watching your bag reviews. I love how you thoroughly break down each components. Also lovin the close-ups on the fabric and how each zipper & clasps open and close- it's just what I look for in a bag review. I'm wondering how you will like classics like Mystery Ranch's duffle and 3 DAP pack...

      Thank you very much! Means a lot to me. Mystery Ranch has some very interesting designs and a very good reputation. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test one yet.

    THIS IS A LONG REVIEW: I just want everyone to see my real-life use experiences:
    Before I bought the backpack, I checked every review of the bag but nearly none of the reviews out there had real life testing. There're a lot of promising features in the bag and the materials are very impressive.
    But after I received the backpack and became a real user in the field, the experience isn't as good as it looks to be on paper.
    1. The verge case as an insert is a bright idea. But it was a poorly executed one. It used very thick materials and round design to offer more protection. However, as a mirrorless user who uses Fuji and Sony A7 series, the verge case can barely fit A7ii with 50mm lens plus a 85mm prime lens. It's very tight. No review describes how small the verge case is, comparing to other similarly designed bags like PRVKE 21.
    2. The verge case is attached to the bag with two snap on buttons. The buttons are very well made and you can feel the quality. However, the verge case has a smaller width compared to the internal dimension of the backpack. The verge is only attached to the backpack on ONE side. When I have my A7II and another lens in the verge case, it sinks to the bottom of the backpack quite a bit. It's awkwardly placed in the backpack. The backpack is thus unbalanced with just my mirrorless setup.
    3. As a result of the lack of balance, and weight of the verge case attached on only the right side of the backpack, where the two snap buttons are located, the overall shape of the backpack is ruined. It's worse when you have a center zipper that can always show the shape of the backpack when you're wearing. Your center zipper will always tilt to the side of the verge case.
    4. Because of the room left out between the bottom of the backpack and the verge case, and the verge case sinking in because of the weight, it's REALLY hard to retrieve your gear with quick-access door. Again, it's another conceptually great design, but poorly performed feature. It was a lot of effort to take my A7ii out from that side door.
    5. The verge case is expandable. Great thoughts over there, but it expands to the bottom. You still only have one divider. So it's only useful when you're trying to fit in a longer lens with a long length. It doesn't create additional dividers when you want to put another 2 prime lens in. You're stuck with 2 compartments in the verge case.
    6. The bottom of the bag curves up and makes the backpack absolutely impossible to stand on its own. It's not as a big issue as the other ones.
    7. To support Bo Ismono's points from his short look video, Boundary prima systems weights really heavy and has a hard time maintaining its shape when it's not completely full. You can find Bo testing an earlier version on his channel.
    8. The backpack allows cameras in the verge case fall into the main compartment. Because the verge case's door is connected to the side access pocket door, it's always relatively open to the main compartment at all times. I haven't had things fallen out yet since I haven't carried a really small prime lens in it. But if you have a Fuji 35f2, I think it has a chance of happening.
    In short, REALLY try it on for an extended period of time before you decide to keep it. Just by reading the online reviews, you may conclude that this is the perfect bag, but it's the real life uses that make this backpack not so great. Don't just look at unboxing videos or descriptive recommendations like the one above. Really try to find users who had longer experience with the backpack.
    About return policy of Boundary, I was told they will not accept any return if the backpack has been used.
    When you want to try it out, don't use it outdoors and try to keep it new.

    Nice job !
    Your quicklook nicely completes the Kickstarter presentation, I like your critical approach as well.
    I am both very interested by this concept and a bit concerned by the system when the "Verge" is combined into the backpack. As you mention in the video, there is a gap between the Verge and the bottom of the backpack main compartment, which is difficult to access.
    Does the backpack stand on the floor, or properly provide support your lower back, when this gap is empty ?
    Isn't there a lot of wasted space there ?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 лет назад

      Thank you very much, Bastien!
      Yeah, the gap underneath is a little "concerning" because you tend to loose stuff there. But I usually carry a sweater or jacket just in case (Hamburg tends to have quick changing weather). I put that jacket in that space which then again gives me some more padding. But even if empty there is enough support on your lower back. As for standing up, this really depends on the items and the weight distribution inside the bag.
      Let me know if you have any more questions

    First off love your vids... they are not long at all and for the reviews, i love that you have a scoring system. im down to choosing this bag-Prima system and the Aer Travel Backpack, so was trying to look for your score on the Prima System. =) either way, between the two, not to put you on the spot, what would you recommend?
    -I will mostly be using it for travel, and mostly be taking the following...15" MacBook, a mirrorless cam, a tripod, a gimbal, a couple of go pros and the usual peripherals. That said, I know i said i will mostly be using it for travel, but curious as to which of the two you think would be a good day pack as well? Im torn! help! =)

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      Hey Jai.
      Thank you very much. That is kinda a difficult question, because you can't compare them. They are totally different: While the Boundary is more gravitating towards being a everyday carry bag, the AER Travel Pack is gravitating towards a weekender carry on bag. That being said: If you can live with the size of the AER, then I believe that one is the more flexible choice for traveling. It's "Simple" maincompartment with it's clamshell opening adapts more easily to your packing style. So you can use a couple of different pouches and cubes for your equipment and then just store it inside. And on the day you can just compress the bag for easier day use. But as I said: It is bigger and for me it is slightly over the size that I usually prefer as a edc bag.

    Very nice quick review. The Kickstarter page says the removable "Verge" case can fit 1 DSLR, with a prime lens, and a medium zoom lens. I couldn't find the exact dimensions anywhere and there are so many different types of cameras and lens. Do you by any chance know if it'll fit a Canon 6D with a Canon 135mm f2L attached? And if so, how comfortably would you say?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 лет назад +1

      +Tuan Truong thanks, Tuan.
      That's a good question. Unfortunately I don't have a DSLR anymore, and if don't know how big the 135mm is, but I would guess both would definitely fit into the case detached. But with the lens attached (considering it is a f2L lens) I'm not sure.

    Which of these bags do you like more?
    - LBB peloton
    - Black Ember TL3 (gen3)

    - Peak Design Backpack
    Thanks

      +Roberto Pommerening thanks, Roberto. That is a difficult question, because all of them serve slightly different purposes. But besides the peloton all of them more or less accommodate some kind of photography equipment. Of all the ones you mentioned, I have only tested the Boundary and the peloton. All of them are quite compelling though

    I’ve been considering the Prima System and PRVKE. Even with modules removed, the Prima is heavier. Do you find the Prima too heavy for a everyday?
    I guess the upside is the Verge case allows you to go super lightweight. Looks like expanding the Verge just makes the bag deeper. Can you move the dividers further to stack and protect camera equipment?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      Hey,
      I haven't tested the PRVKE yet. So I can't compare the two. But to me the Boudary is not too heavy when empty. The verge is expandable but I'm not sure if the dividers extend in the final version. But I doubt it.

    Hey Bo; I'm currently looking for a packback I have to bike with to school every day starting UNI after summer. The peak everyday looks neat but I can't afford it so now I got my eyes on this one. Is this what you'd recommend for carrying a laptop, a small camera, some books and such or would you go a messenger or maybe another bag entirely? Best wishes, really enjoy your format.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 лет назад

      +ScrattleGG thanks.
      I personally would advice against a messenger bag. With all the stuff that you want to carry, you want to distribute the weight on both shoulders. A messenger will exhaust your one shoulder quite fast.
      The boundary is a very cool bag. But maybe also take a look at the px design bag. I like it quite a lot although it doesn't have a separate camera compartment. Do you need the camera compartment?

    • @ScrattleGG
      @ScrattleGG 7 лет назад

      It isn't a must for an actually dedicated camera compartment. Not at all. Just want something stylish, somewhat decent looking that'll carry my laptop my books maybe a camera and keep it dry when I'm biking.
      I appreciate the response. When you say px bag do you mean the invisible bag?
      Been looking at the Timbuk2 Rogue and osprey flapjack as well

    Thank you for the great review! I've just backed this item up at Kickstarter, but I'm not really sure this back will go with my daily use. I'm looking for a mostly daily backpack(with tablet, some notes, pencils and notes, I don't carry cameras etc, and I commute by bike) and sometimes carry on to the plane. I'm a 5'5"(165cm) height girl. I've owned high sierra access bag which is not really durable and has torn down after several usages. Do you have any suggestions? Would it be ok to go with this bag?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  7 лет назад +1

      +JiYoung Kim you are about the same height as me. It is manageable and doesn't look too big on my back. As you don't carry cameras, you will probably not need the insert. Without the padded camera insert the bag will be much more flat and therefore better for daily use Imho

      Bo Ismono Hi Bo! They deleted my comment as spam but that’s alright.
      Yeah I don’t rate the bag highly but it’s not the worst bag I have. It’s built around a cool concept but a lot of details are overlooked. Those things make it a very poor camera bag.
      If I use without the insert, it’s an ok backpack. The downsides are: weight, hard to keep its shape, doesn’t stand on itself. I’m not using the bag at all right now.

      Thank you very much, James. To be quite honest, it is very difficult to answer that question, because everyone has different packing styles and it depends on the location or event. For instance, if you travel for work you might need a second pair of shoes which will take up a lot of space or at least more than just a pair of running shoes. Or if you go to a cold destinations, you will need sweaters.
      But if it comes down to a bag around 30L carry on size, then I like the AER Travel Backpack quite a lot.

      THANK YOU! But I was hoping you can recommend a carry on that has wheels kind of like the Thule Duffle bag crossover. I don't want to purchase the Thule Duffle bag because I feel like its too big to pass as a carryon on most flights.

    • @mcnuonuo
      @mcnuonuo 6 лет назад

      This is one of the problems I had with this backpack.
      There's too much room, but it's not easy to stuff things in there. There's no padding on the bottom of the bag, so you shouldn't put any gear down there.
      Would be a good place for a jacket.
      The space also creates the problem of the verge case sinking into that space when you have gear in it. Since the verge case is only attached to the side of the backpack with those 2 snap buttons.

      Hey Olivia,

      hey bo, thanks for replying. yeah I guess considering the inserts and design details, the price is pretty fair. that is one reason why I decided to back the project. most of these bags with inserts tend to have extra costs built in. +kidbach thanks, mate. Unfortunately I have no idea how many liters this bag is, and I wasn't able to find any information. But I would guesstimate around 25l.
      It has a good padded back and a waistbelt, so you could be good to go on a hike, but bare in mind, that it is a flap down closing. So there are some gaps where water could get into the maincompartment if you get into some really heavy rain

      Cool. Yeah, at first it appeared heavy or as I said in the video "hefty", just because it is big and substantial in a way, which might explain why I thought it was heavier than my goruck for instance. But it is not heavier.

      Finally received the Boundary yesterday (the black version) after a bit of shipping problems from their end (lots of unhappy backers). Also have the AER Duffel Pack and have been using that for the past few months. Initial thoughts are that you're right - completely different, but I think I'll still stick to the AER as my daily commute pack for gym/work but I'll still try the Boundary out for a week or 2. The AER seems like it has more compartments/pockets on the side and also more space in the "work space" area for extra documents etc (the divider between the work and gym side is soft, so it works as shared space depending on which side is more full.
      The boundary is still a very sexy bag, so I think once I get used to it, I'll probably be switching between the AER and the Boundary a lot depending on my mood.

      Do you mean carrying the Verge by itself? I always left the verge inside if I needed it. I never carried it by itself. • @joki9121

    Hey Bo,
    thank you for the great review. I just found the Boundary and it looks really promising! After your review I just have one more question. How much does the backpack "deflate" when you don't put much gear in it (and obviously leave the camera bag out) . Is it stiff enough to keep its overall appearance or does it collapse? Because I hate when a backpack looks good when you stuff it full but take out some things and it looks like you are carrying a garbage bag.

    • @mcnuonuo

      Some problem I had with accessing the camera through the side:
      The insert sinks in as you put gear in. Since it's only attached to the bag through 2 snap buttons. This makes the opening of the bag not 100% aligned with the opening of the insert. So you end up with a smaller access opening.
      The insert's door is attached to the backpack's side access door. Which means your gear has a chance of falling out of the verge case to the main compartment.

    The bag seems good, but the company and the customer service suck. Problems after problems.

    With so many magnets, aren't you worried about hard drives and credit cards?

      Yeah, kinda. Magnets always worry me, but it might be my stigma growing up with floppy disks haha. I'm not sure how influenceable todays hardware is to magnets. I might need to talk to an engineer or physicist about that one day

      youll need big large heavy earth magnets to maybe mess up a harddrive or creditcard strip.

      +CoreXtion thanks for clearing this up. But one question : is the duration of exposure relevant? For instance, if I put a credit card next to the magnet of the bag every single day for about 8 hours(a work day) five days a week (storing a wallet in the bag whilst being at work) shouldnt that affect the magnetic strip at some point?
