She is so happy to have an security alarm installed her home. Rather sweet actually and her childlike delight. I love the look of horror on her hubby's face that he had forgotten their wedding anniversary. Priceless.
You see Clive's acting expertise when he realizes he's forgotten their anniversary... the physical reactions and facial expressions - the best acting often doesn't involve words!
My sister and I loved watching 'Mrs Bucket', when we were 5,6 7 years old growing up in Australia. Our parents let us buy a VHS with our pocket money and we would roar with laughter. I always thought the little romanticised English house they owned was so sweet and and I longed to visit England.
Which we don't see hardly at all now. Other than the Carol Burnett show and others made in that era, all is lost for humor now. Besides cable is fading fast and probably will be gone in the next 10 years, if not sooner.
Clive here shows the mark of a great actor - his facial and body expressions as he realizes that he forgot their anniversary are priceless! Before he even says a word, we can empathize with his panic and fear!
What I love about this episode is Hyacinth isn't being overbearing or pushy in anyway. She is genuinely excited to see what her husband has bought her for an anniversary present. As someone whose father frequently forgets his wedding anniversary (and is proud of it), I can totally understand her excitement.
This is possibly the only episode where you felt a bit of sympathy for Hyacinth with Richard first forgetting the anniversary and then forgetting the year of the Wedding.
This episode had such a funny ending scene. I still remember watching these episodes here in America when they first aired in the 1990's. My partner and I fell in love with the show very quickly back then when we got our first apartment. Decades later, and we love watching the DVD's every now and then. The show will always be hilarious.
I can't watch this without murmuring, "C'mon, Richard, you can do it!" and then just bursting into triumphant, loonnng laughter when he manages. The call in the phone box with the security tech is just as good! "Excuse me, sir, but are you married? Have you ever forgotten your wedding anniversary?" Pause... "Good man!" WHEW!
Brilliant! But there was more to this clip that we missed. I think she says “Richard wants to protect me” or something like that to Elizabeth or emmit next door 😂
I was born in India but raised in America and I grew up watching this show with my family on PBS. My siblings and I were young so some episodes went over our heads, but even as a could I could relate to Hyacinth’s striving to “fit in” despite her poor upbringing. I loved watching her struggle to “keep up appearances”, and equally enjoyed her failures as well. This show was so well written and well casted..I also liked that it was a show My family and I could enjoy watching together.
Hyacinth really does try her best to make everyone happy and to keep things together even when things are falling apart- you’ve got to hand it to her- she really does love Richard.
She is being nice in this episode. I think you have issues with women. A wedding anniversary is a happy day. If you do not want to be married, remain single.
I loved watching keeping up appearances back in the day and I still do now. This is one of the best episodes IMO and I think there was nobody better than Patricia Routledge and Clive Swift to portray Hyacinth and Richard Bucket (pronounced Bouquet btw) hahaha. He forgot their wedding anniversary and he was saved by the burglar alarm, briefly. If only he had remembered the year of their wedding 😂😂
I hate when people say things like that. They don't do comedy better than anyone - they do it different. I grew up watching Benny Hill, As Time Goes By, Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearance and shows like Ali G, Coupling, Last of The Summer Wine. To be sure - KUP appearance is the only one that made me laugh out loud. The others were just interesting British shows that crossed lines USA TV couldn't or wouldn't at the time. I found a lot of the humor vulgar at times - to be honest. But I loved them because they were slices of British humor and life and so different from my own. The Australians do humor wonderfully, too. I think Kath & Kim is funnier than any of these British shows I mentioned. I could watch Kath & Kim over and over again - although some of their humor is a bit crass as well. I don't like crass or vulgar humor AT ALL, but I know to reach the masses it must be added in. *sigh*
@@TodaysSpecialMinis I agree with one thing you wrote - and that is yes, British V American humour/comedy is different (and Australian and other countries). But I would still say, regardless of your diatribe, that British is generally 'better', in my opinion. My main reason for saying this, is that a lot of American comedy and movies are often like 'oh, aren't we so great' type of attitude. Rather sickening I find, but that is not to say I hate their comedy/movies/whatever. The British are much better at being 'natural' at comedy without being so up themselves like the yanks.
A top of the line security system would make her feel super exclusive and special. Brilliant! I could picture her making a big deal about it to all the neighbors on installation day 😄
It's kind of sweet how much faith she has in him
She is so happy to have an security alarm installed her home. Rather sweet actually and her childlike delight. I love the look of horror on her hubby's face that he had forgotten their wedding anniversary. Priceless.
Poor Richard forgot the date and the alarm going off gave it away😂.
I think 🤔 Richard had block out he wedding anniversary 😲 to Hyacinth because he didn't want to be reminded how long they been married for.🙄
You see Clive's acting expertise when he realizes he's forgotten their anniversary... the physical reactions and facial expressions - the best acting often doesn't involve words!
Bill Osborn so true!
Very true Bill Osborn.
Clive at his best that part!
@Almost Free Stop encouraging "stupid"? Were you trying to say "stupidity", stupid? 🤣
Yes, and how many men can sympthize with him - like "oh f**k he forgot..."
She is a fantastic actress
he's not bad either
Etta James ... the funny ones get some recognition, Joanna Lumley, Dawn French, Kathy Burke and so on (as well as PR herself of course)
Dame was just recognized for her exemplary career!
Both are good actors
she is also a wonderful person
One of the best British tv shows. Never a dull moment!
Amen..

0:30 The moment when Richard realizes he's screwed.
And 2:31 when he realizes he's saved.
Epic acting from both of them ☺
And Hyacinth's reaction of giddy delight!
Yes. spot on!
0:30 Richard is like “oh shit I fucked up!”
2:31 Richard is like “oh thank you Jesus!”
The best part of the first moment is, after writhing in various ways, he suddenly just runs off, flees!
Patricia Routledge is a national treasure. Loved Keeping up appearances.
Thats, Dame Patricia Routledge
RIP Clive Swift. You portrayed Richard Bucket wonderfully
It's pronounced Bou-quet! XD

Oh cool you bought a video with your pocket money.🤗🤗🤗👏👏👏😄😄😄
I would love to live in their house, not with Hyacinth in it of course, but just to have that house!!
haha i always thought it was a lovely big house beautifully furnished to me who grew up on an english council estate england is beautiful though
2:45: That "Oh Richard" is the best line in the entire run. Brilliantly done.
I was specifically looking for that when I came to this video. Just thinking about it and wanting to see it. 😊
Excellent- this is how comedy is done right
Which we don't see hardly at all now. Other than the Carol Burnett show and others made in that era, all is lost for humor now. Besides cable is fading fast and probably will be gone in the next 10 years, if not sooner.
😂😂😂 The best female British actress for me. She does it like no any other. You nailed Hyacinth... Patricia!
The first time I saw this episode and Richards panicked expressions I just about died laughing. I could hardly breathe from laughing so hard!
"Excuse me dear that's about to be someone important" every time i hear this it makes me laugh so hard.
Clive here shows the mark of a great actor - his facial and body expressions as he realizes that he forgot their anniversary are priceless! Before he even says a word, we can empathize with his panic and fear!
He embodies the "pained expression"
What a sweet man! No one could have done better.
But he does not get a present at all...
This has to be probably my all-time favourite KUA episode, so brilliantly written and well performed by both Patricia and Clive (R.I.P. Clive Swift).
Clive Swift, RIP and thank you for all those wonderful TV moments.

Why is the husband supposed to buy something for the wedding anniversary? Isn't that the wedding was shared by both the wife and the husband?
@@hanaluong2672 This was the 90s, the man should always take the initiative.
@@hanaluong2672the way poor Richard puts up with Hyacinth all year, she should buy him anniversary, birthday and Christmas presents.

R. I. P Clive swift, You were a great man!
This is one of the most wonderful show's I have ever watched l love it

Damn close Richard!! You got lucky there mate!
Magnificent save by Richard!!!
Number 23 has been burgled again! Thats twice in three months.....how pretentious! LOL that SUCH a Hyacinth thing to say! :-D
I know they did the Bucket vs Bouquette gag in every single episode, but it just never gets old as far as I'm concerned.
"A house burgled...how pretentious," If you want a laugh while in the dentist's chair, think of that. The writers were brilliant.
Hahaha

@@DeanMoxley87 not technically

Worst day of his life and he forgets!
well appreantly not , cause he stayed married ;) perhaps Hyacinth is a devil in bed.

The most surprising part of this scene is that Emmett willingly called Hyacinth!
If I remember correctly, he did that on purpose because he knew it would upset her.
What a wonderful program to watch. It was the highlight of a Saturday Night, to get a chuckle of this program.
