My Grandfather lived in the area. He was born in Kippax, which is not far away. He took me to the battle site when I was a boy, and told me about the battle, the brutality, and how the ‘beck’ ran red with blood. So, people in the area knew for generations how brutal that war on Towton moor was back then, without needing academics and archeologists to tell them. BTW, my Grandad fought in France in WW-1, and was wounded, so he could talk about brutal warfare with some authority.
Of all the Kings in British history,I admire Edward Earl of March the most.I think if he'd lived he would have made for a decent and sensible monarch. But as things worked out ,they kind of worked out - as least to get rid of Richard.
Why is the armour on the right of the thumbnail from ~ the 1380s? A history channel should pay attention to historical details. Furthermore, the French royal coat of arms is France ancient, so before1375.

So? thats the beauty of digital media. You can use it over and over again and make some money with it. There will always be ppl, who havent seen it yet.
Does not ,in any way ,take away from the excellence of this documentary! I can and have watch it several times and see something I missed each time.Tim Surherland and this fabulous professional lady do phenomenal work! Just imagining what the carnage must have been like ..then magnify that by 1000! What a time period!
Bloodiest battle in British History? Hmm...maybe my math is wrong, but the 28,000 killed at Towton seems somewhat less than the 50,000 - 80,000 Britons who perished in the Battle of Watling Street in 61 AD.
Hmm, was it really the bloodiest in British history? Surely the battles of the WW1 or WW2 with the participation of British soldiers are part of British history too..?
English is not my first language, so maybe I’m wrong, but Townton is a battle where you are refering to a war? Is there a battle during WW1 or 2 where 28K brithish soldiers die? Sorry if I misunderstand the wording.
Yes its plain as science after the horrible slaughter of the actual battle , the winners seeing so many of there own dead , the victors simply executed most of their surrendering prisoners.Yes white christian Englishmen horribly killing other white christian Englishmen who has already surrendered.
Was this a battle. Seems they had been super to here then dispatched ..a really strange time. Foods scarce this group food wines and I'm the king monedya to Friday and Saturday footy
@@meredithcole2862 Truth hurts. Woman historians are cringe. Always letting their emotions and opinions get in the way. Everybody knows history is a guy thing.
Not only womankind are ignorant of war's realities. Many men, including generals and other high ranking military who've only read dry military times and never actually experienced a battle in a long career can be as dumb as posts, too! Only our more recent wars have allowed women into actual combat situations. The photo of US President Bush dancing with a soldier who had lost a leg in recent (this century) combat would put your comment into the sexist category methinks. EXTREMELY WELL DONE! THANK YOU!
Love the old 1990's history series!.
Who thought that battles in 1460's were 'romantic' ??!!
Those who write romantic war stories of any age, not having dealt with reality.

He’s my favorite. I think he was a great King.
Trying to imagine what somebody a thousand years from now would be thinking when they dig up our war graves
Quite a surreal documentary in many ways.

Umm.....wasn't there a slightly more recent event that eclipses this one by several orders of magnitude somewhere in France?
Aren't we talking about British history?
At the time, most battlefield "medics" were normally monks and priests. Not to say all were, but the majority.
Very interesting , brutal,😮.

No construction for you 😊
Halfway through the video I realised these men were killed horribly as prisoners . After the battle was over .
Hard to immagine....

Yep. It’s true. Look it up. I did and it is very interesting.

I believe that amounts of men in wars back then over exaggerated…?

Those woman archeologist is so incompetent. What do they think a war with sword, axe, and Halbert would looks like?
All I hear in this posting is utter ignorance about any sort of weaponry with a large side order of misogyny.....😝
