Woman protests after she was assaulted twice in downtown Seattle, calling for action by Seattle City

- Jessica Hovater, who lives, works and raises her children in Seattle, says she never felt unsafe in downtown until this year.
"I left just this door and walked exactly two blocks up Virginia to hit my bus stop," said Hovater. "A man approached me while I was on the phone with my husband, asked me for a lighter and when I said no, he punched me in the face."
She said what happened after she left work Monday evening around 5 p.m. is unacceptable.

It’s too bad Alex Pedersen threw in the towel. We need him.

Why do think it's that simple?
@NickRichards Why do you think it's that complicated?
City, county and state are run by a single party. City and county have been for many decades. No oversight, no transparency, just the same party and policies voted for over and over, while things get progressively worst. No pun intended.
And people are completely blind to the causation.
@@TheWolfWon exactly
@@NickRichards Who would have thought that defunding the police and not prosecuting criminals would lead to more crime? Gosh it's so complicated.
You couldn’t pay me enough to work downtown. I felt unsafe when I worked there even before covid. Now I just would never. More needs to be done. My heart goes out to this woman.
leftists are braindead
liberals too.... full of hate and annoying too
I’d met a man who had just moved to Seattle and he had a job but he was homeless. One day a woman walked up to him asking for a cigarette he said he didn’t smoke. She then stabbed him in the chest narrowly missing his heart. He spent a short week at HMC then he had a fresh sutured wound and didn’t want to go to the shelters BC they were “filthy”. Outbreaks of MRSA and other’s*at the jails and in the shelters. I really couldn’t argue with him. He was from another country and he had a job. It was seasonal and hard work but he couldn’t find affordable shelter.

@@King5HurtsChildren-nn9kg Cool story, bro
Good luck to her standing out their with a sign. Others have filed grievances, spoke their minds in public meetings and to the press, etc before her. All to deaf years. Her recourse is to get together with her neighbors and local businesses and go after the city council members personally in a class action lawsuit.
Good for her. If I knew where she was, I'd join her. Was chased by a man in Capitol Hill threatening to kill me. Had my puppy in my arms. He had something in his hand, possibly a rock, pure luck that he did not throw it at me. Was running downill on very uneven sidewalk. Terrible fear I would trip or he would just push me. Some other guy kept pressing his face against my car window telling me to roll down the window. I had planned to get out + walk, but just drove away instead.
Early in the video, it's reported that she's protesting in front of City Hall...like, Cherry & 3rd/4th?...just FYI. Stay safe!

We have to give a big respect, our money and recognition to the police force. We should live a life that allow people to do their job according to the law.
Um, SPD has had massive problems and has for years, which is why they had a federal consent decree and why the people of this city reached a boiling point in 2020. They all should stop whining! This is what they voted for. This is what they wanted. "I love this city...". Fine! Get used to it.
This is just pure speculation but I'm wondering how she responded to his request for a lighter ? No matter what it was still assult. This comes from a 67 yearold man who chwas threatened by a teenage girl because I wouldn't give her my lighter. She didn't ask to barrow it. But does she think seattle is the only place this sort of thing happens. The incident with me was in tacoma. And I agree that people don't seem to fear action by the police anymore.
She said she did not have a lighter.
She said that no she didn't have a lighter. And then she got punched in the face, sucker punch.
And what did she say within a month prior she had a bottle thrown at her so she might have been traumatized and scared still, when she was asked for the lighter by probably not a person in a nicely dressed suit. Probably a gross looking slob.
It's definitely not okay for men to be throwing bottles of people instead of putting them into the trash cans. If a man doesn't have a lighter than he should buy a lighter.
Woman had short hair, which is very common for drug users unfortunately. I don't know why her hair is short, doesn't seem like a hard drug user Who is infested with lice ..., she's married with kids. But hey her visage matches that profile coincidentally. Absolutely not her fault. Kind of reminds me of a monk actually. Anyhow. So perhaps the gross guy threw the punch thinking that she was into that sort of thing.
Does that help?
A safe downtown is coming. We need to hire 500 uniformed police officers to staff to 2019 levels and the state's Police Academy can't provide that even over 5 years. Ms. Hovater speaking up is what we need to hasten the necessary political decisions. Thank you for covering her protest.
you must be on crack like most of the people that voted your way in the first place.
Of course SEATTLE can get 500 cops on the streets. Maybe in two years. Recruitment has to get very aggressive. More importantly, hire LATERALS, therefore no training needed. They don't go through another academy for 6-8 months before hitting the streets. But first change the council members, then change the chief of police, and the mayor. Also, she was probably mistaken for being another homeless person which is why she was treated so poorly.
The people of Seattle did this to themselves. Keep voting blue for more. You pick your mayors, city councilors and the DA and you have voted for soft-on-crime, homeless-coddling elected officials for decades. These are the easily-foreseen consequences of your actions.
