    My new way to water is using milk jugs with a tiny hole pricked in it for a slow drip. I just make sure every plant has their own jug which makes monitoring water amount easier and everything is doing so well through the summer so far, including new baby transplants in this 97 degree heat.

    • @jennywren76
      @jennywren76 Год назад +7

      That's a great use of milk jugs! Are you burying the jugs next to the plants like an olla? Or are you just putting them next to the plant on top of the soil? I'm just starting a container garden and I've been thinking of using ollas but they'd take up so much room in my containers.

    • @ffs6158
      @ffs6158 Год назад +85

      @@jennywren76 I just put them on top of the soil, then I can grab them and refill them all without dragging the hose. My other advice would be put the hole about 2 inches from bottom so a little water remains and the jug won't blow away lol I've learned that the hard way.

    At one time, I had over 100 rose plants (crazy, right?). Japanese beetle heaven! Before RUclips and Internet, I would make tobacco tea (3 fingers chewing tobacco in boiling water; turn off the heat let sit until cool, add some mint mouthwash, put in tank sprayer and spray away. No beetles will stay. Over the years, the beetles just never came to my yard I think because they weren't there to drop down and lay their eggs. I think this simple solution might work for cukes if one could spray just leaves. It's a whole lot cheaper, not as messy, looks better. This will be my 1st year growing cukes, I'm gonna try it on them, will let you know . I had cucumber beetles even without growing cukes, just tomatoes and roses, they replaced Japanese beetles for destruction on the roses. Luv ya from across the DMB, DE

    Your videos have inspired us to garden. We bought our house about 2 years ago, and the previous owner raised bird dogs in the backyard. The backyard barely has grass, the ground is very uneven, and it just isn't serving us. We are hoping to basically turn our backyard into gardens with paths between them. We currently have 6 raised beds. We started with one bed and a compost bin last year, and this year, we've expanded. I'm SO excited! I learn so much from you and the boss in every video. Thank you so much!

    What about planting marigolds around tomatoes and cucumbers for the beetles? Great harvest James,. I'm in Arizona high desert so it's always a water issue. I'm going to plant this year in large pots with the bottoms cut out and the pot planted in the ground a few inches that way I'm hoping to concentrate the water and control the water flow. I like your garden foreman Tuck he's so cute. Thanks for the good info.

    I like what you said. Nothing happened in the garden is bad it’s just perspective. We can always learn something from our mistakes. I just made a mistake today in my garden and feeling bummed by it… Thank you for the pep talk! :)
