Love it Rick. You are a rider, bike builder, and mechanical genius. That is huge. I have an 05 Big Dog Chopper and have made many changes for reliability. Love choppers and customs, but I want to ride it! OCC done a great job but as you know, reality shows stage much drama, too. Thank you. ✌🏽😎
Rick is the real deal, and look at that beautiful Tye Dye Panhead Springer behind him. He made that. 😍😍😍 God Bless you Rick. I used to love watching both ya'll shows.
you’re just the best Rick and we are all going to say that you were also a huge influence on all of us back then! I still have both of my bikes that I built back then to see if I could keep up with you guys! yes I did it. I’m 57 now and I still have them! thank you!
I'm a former cameraman and you're spot on about the advertising. A normal commercial during off-peak is about 10K per 30 seconds. During prime time it's around $200K on up for that same 30 seconds. Of course during the Superbowl, commercial time is rated at around $5-7 million per 30 seconds. Those companies that had OCC build them a bike basically got a steal on advertising, especially with the viewship that program received.
Good on you Rick. You are an artist and your bikes reflect that. OCC was similar and the could be no argument that those bikes weere works of art. I think all choppers are a degree of form over function. But that is why people have always buult them. Every bike has its pluses and minuses depending on what its purpose is. All bikes need regular maintainence. To me i can only do what i can do in my limited skillset. So am happy to have experts work on my bikes. You are a legend, keep on trucking mate, from Australia!
I definitely agree that American Chopper as well as Jessie James were major influences on the Chopper/Motorcycle industry back in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Having ridden/worked on a couple bikes built by West Coast Choppers, Big Dog, Roger Bourget, Paul Yaffe, and OCC (bikes made for corporate customers and what they called their street bikes) and while they all have some interesting design elements however every bike that I have seen, worked on and or ridden that was made by OCC have been uncomfortable to ride, handled/trailed poorly and had stupid problems be it a seat that looked cool but was slanted down towards the rear wheel, were wired strangely, and after the first couple of seasons most of the OCC bikes had stock Evo or Twin Cam and were underpowered for the bikes they were in especially when compared to the other bike manufacturers I listed. In closing I think Jessie James hit the nail on the head when he called the Tuttles the Cake decorators of the chopper industry.
Rick your way head and shoulders ahead of OCC there custom theme bikes all look the same long with gas tanks that have alot of sharp corners i used to watch the tuteuls just to watch them fight and Mikey it wasn't for the bikes what you have done rick is just plain good old fashioned bad ass bike building and how you cater to all the bikers you have an honest reputation what you do is a dieing breed so stay healthy we need you around for a 100 more years.
You are rite Rick.OCC was a commercial program to generate money for discovery. Personally i liked the series and i still watch the reruns. And i follow Snr on RUclips.
I've build 2 motorcycles.... just because I was watching that show when I wss young. If they wheren't there... I would not have started riding motorcyle and I would not built any bikes 🫶
OCC was made for TV drama. Drama is a formula that the TV industry has used for many years to hold the viewers interest. I enjoyed watching OCC minus the drama. For me the drama part of the show was a turnoff. Like some of the other shows on TV where they have a deadline build. The show starts out fine, then the writers and producers inject the drama into the show where they're trying to meet the deadline. OCC customers got what they paid for. OCC was not trying to build, touring bikes, adventure bikes, racing bikes, or anything other than exotic custom choppers. They were niche builders, and good at it. I enjoy watching build TV shows and RUclips videos but, I'll pass on the DRAMA...
I went out and bought a motorcycle as a direct result of watching that show. As millions of other people did. The entire worldwide motorcycle industry owes Senior a truckload of cash!
If you have never met Rick, do yourself a favor and meet before he is gone. He may look like a scary hippie but he’s one of the smartest, nicest and fair hippies on this planet. He is just a cool cat. I digress on the hippie label…. He’s a businessman, not a hippie.
Finally a smart business man explains how powerful their show was.

That was a fair assessment of the situation at the time. All the screaming and yelling on the show was very off putting.
The movie Easy Rider in 1969 fueled the initial chopper craze.
No it didn't, it took advantage of the craze already underway ....

There's a difference between art and/or serviceability...
Well said Rick, been coming to your beer joint since you opened and still do. Enjoyed some great times there for sure.
Your class

OCC got my interest in motorcycles………
I’ve been riding since 2003. 😊
Awsame video thanks
Radical insane choppers are huge in Thailand. The more insane impractical and unrideable the more they love them.✌️
Choppers for life
I'm watching 😂
That’s a great looking Panhead that you’ve standing in front of.
That is an awesome, tye dyed bike behind you, Rick. What would a price tag be like on a bike like that? Just wondering if maybe I can afford it, lol.
Peace

No denying that OCC had a huge influence, but the quality of their bikes they sold to the public were poor quality.
I went out and bought a motorcycle as a direct result of watching that show. As millions of other people did. The entire worldwide motorcycle industry owes Senior a truckload of cash!
BS, Rick. If anyone builds a motorcycle, even it’s a theme bike for a company, it should be rideable and functional.
When they built bikes for some of those companies, I wouldn’t consider them a motorcycle as much as I would consider them art.
