When I was a kid, I never could tell that the face behind the SA-X's visor was white eyes and a nose. I always saw it as eyes and a frowny face. Even now, its hard to see it...
I think when the X replicates Samus, at first it doesn't know how to USE Samus, after a while I learns her weapons and movement, but not her brain. Towards the end, it does learn to use her brain and learns that Samus means to eliminate all metroids. It then sees the omega metroid, and remember it has to kill it, then attempts to destroy it. It never had feelings. It never had reason and is a killing machine. Another theory is that the x wanted to end samus once and for all, and THAT SA-X saw the omega metroid, it tried to kill it since IT wanted to destroy samus and didn't want the omega metroid to take its kill.
John Nathaniel My own take on it was this: The X wanted to kill all Metroids. It used Samus to get her to open up the Restricted Laboratory, fucked up the Metroids, and thought it killed them all. At this point, Samus looks like the only thing with Metroid DNA in the galaxy. So an SA-X goes to kill her. After a short firefight, it senses the rest of the SA-X fighting the Omega, so it transforms into a big monster to try and bring the fight to a close. Samus beats that form as well, so the thing resorts to using only the Ice Beam. The Omega goes through SA-X like a broadsword through tissue paper, so after another short while the one fighting Samus is the only one left. It then goes off to try and kill the last true Metroid, but as we see, it can't hold up against an Omega. Samus eats it in its moment of weakness, and that's that.
there were still more. With how many sa-x there were the omega metroid would have been jelly. Me thinks that the sa-x you "defeated" was following you and thought, wow this thing is so much more dangerous than samus, better kill it. Those ice beam blasts hurt it badly.
Actually, Metroids were the only predator that could kill/consume theX Parasite, created by the Chozo. When the Metroids began to metamorph into bigger, stronger lifeforms that the Chozo scientists didn’t intend, they sealed them away on planet Zebes. Years pass. Decades pass. Perhaps even centuries, and the Chozo adopt an orphan girl and bind her with power armor and train her to be the ultimate warrior... So that she could fix their mistakes. After putting an end to the Space Pirates and Mother Brain, she flew to Zebes to eradicate the Metroid threat once and for all; she succeeded, to a degree. As we all know she spared a newly hatched larva that imprinted on her. But while she was away during the events of Super Metroid, the X Parasite, formerly kept in check by the Metroids, began to flourish. Infecting hosts basically turns the X into a copy of that creature, giving it access to its memories and abilities. However the more complex a creature it is, the harder it is to assimilate and completely utilize. In the case of SA-X, it had Samus’ powers and weapons and a singular mindset that was eerily similar to the host: Destroy the only predator it has. Along comes Samus, now infused with Metroid DNA.... now the biggest threat to the SA-X. So it hunts her relentlessly, learning its new body, mutating it, growing stronger. Then we learn there are other SA-X... propagated to kill all the Metroid the scientists have cloned. They had the ultimate body blueprints; why NOT duplicate it? But there was one dedicated to hunting Samus. Very likely the original, the strongest. Could it learn? Yes. Could it reason? Perhaps in the same way a predator can reason. At the end, Samus was nearly dead, but an Omega Metroid was also present. Sensing she couldn’t move, the double-whammy of both X and Samus’ NEED to exterminate all the Metroids forced it to, despite being critically injured itself, attack the Omega. After being defeat however, the X was stunned and unable to form a protective barrier. This is when Samus saw her chance and absorbed it. Did the SA-X sacrifice itself FOR Samus? No. No it didn’t. Did the SA-X realize that if it died, Samus would consume it and then destroy the Omega? Probably. In the way a predator reasons that it would rather die fighting and let something bigger and badder kill whatever killed itself, the SA-X chose to die fighting... And let Samus clean up the mess.
Nintendo should remake Fusion and remove the chasing AI version of the SA-X and just add the chasing AI code to the SA-X model that isn't invincible, except it comes back each time you turn the game back on (But it saves how many times you defeated it), and the fourth time you defeat it (or when you defeat it at its normal boss location, whichever comes first) is when you have the Ice Beam permanently. That, made me rethink the fear i had of SA-X and think on it as a joke... Well... Just on the final battle, the rest of the game... It didn't intend to help Samus. The SA-X is an X parasite. The metroid prey on the X so it attempted to use Samus's body to kill the last remaining metroid on the station. It never developed full control of Samus's abilities, and was weak from the fight with Samus so the Omega Metroid was able to stun it long enough for Samus to absorb it.
