I love that this ending is just: Samus: I'm gonna blow up the station Adam: What? That's a terrible idea Samus: ... Adam: You gotta blow up the planet too Samus: Shit you're right
"When Adam decided who would live, he chose incorrectly." I thought about this line a LOT, and reached a conclusion I haven't seen anyone state before, so here: Samus thought that self-destructing the station was the only option available; she thought that Adam (the original one) would understand, and agree with that decision, and she used that feeling to validate her choice and steel her resolve. The memory of Adam that existed in her mind, validated her decision. When the computer said that line... "When Adam decided who would live, he chose incorrectly", he wasn't calling Adam's sacrifice for Samus's life foolish. He was saying "the Adam that exists IN YOUR MIND chose incorrectly". The construct of Adam that existed inside Samus was incorrect. The REAL Adam - the awakened computer, which is as close as it gets to the real Adam at this point - came up with a completely different and much more effective plan, one that SAVED Samus's life. In her anger, Samus was prepared to sacrifice herself. She was so set to be a martyr against an overwhelming threat that she didn't consider that there was a WAY she could live, let alone how important her life was. The computer snapped her out of it, focused her mind, and clarified the mission. And as a result, Adam saved the universe.
samus has a very self-sacrificial view of her life, to a point where she's already decided if her life is the price to pay to ensure the universe is safe she'd pay it, forgetting that the greatest protector of the universe is her, and until a new generation that can match up to her comes the universe still very much needs the hunter. i think it highlights that while she is a very thoughtful, wise and intelligent woman, there are times her emotions flair up, and this is one of those times. occasionally one has to remember she's 26 at this point, she may have wisdom but she's still susceptible to her youth what i'm getting at is that's a pretty good assessment of this scene. i think it's made more powerful when you take into account everything that has happened to her up to this point, the amount of friends she's had to watch die (looking at you prime 3), the amount of suffering she's witnessed and endured herself, there come points where anyone would crack and react in a rash manner like she is here.
@@Soulbone3 true as I see it, Other M's Samus shows PTSD since Super's events and this scene shows she's not fully recovered yet in Fusion, it's just she went from influenceable due to her half-broken psyche to so prone to anger she needs someone to keep her focused
@@DarkShooter942 I'd argue her PTSD runs deeper than that. The Metroid prequel manga shows just how the events leading up to and also the events of the first game/zero mission hit her hard, and she was only 17 at the time. Then factor in everything after it, especially prime 3.
@@Soulbone3 oops 😓 I forgot the manga for a moment there but it went worst after the baby sacrificed itself to save Samus from Mother Brain 😥 until then, she never mentally broke at any game when Ridley appeared but, at Other M, her psyche collapse for a second time 😢 that Samus isn't a bad Samus, she's just fighting an inner war against the suffering she's been holding back for too long (she might be a badass hunter, but is also a human being)
I love how when the AI starts to regain Adam's personality, it makes some biting comments at Samus being willing to blow up the station along with herself. Saying things like "When Adam chose who would live, he chose incorrectly." When you realize that the AI IS Adam, that line has a lot more impact. It really comes off as "I didn't sacrifice my life just you could throw yours away!"
OMG I understand it now! I always thought it was weird that he shaded himself, but now I see that he was roasting Samus! Damn... That's actually a really big burn that the Varia Suit can't even protect against.
I've had almost 20 years to ponder this scene, and while I totally understand how you can reach this conclusion - I thought it myself for a while - you're actually wrong. He wasn't ACTUALLY being mean to Samus at all. Consider this: Samus validated her decision internally by telling herself that Adam would have agreed with it. That he would have understood, that it was the best choice in the situation. When the AI said that to her, that Adam chose incorrectly, he wasn't referring to Samus, nor Adam's decision to save Samus. He was saying that the Adam that existed IN HER MIND, the construct she used to validate her decision to throw away her life, was wrong. "When [the Adam in your head] decided who would live [and to sacrifice you], he chose incorrectly."
@@spaceonisorceress4406 That could be one way you could interpret the scene, but I don't necessarily think my interpretation is wrong either. Remember the AI IS Adam, and while that scan of his brain was probably uploaded before his death, it still acknowledged that Adam sacrificed himself for the greater good and to save Samus. He sees how desperate Samus is to stop the X, how she's using Adam's sacrifice to justify it, how she's willing to die to accomplish it, and calls her out for being foolish. He's not deconstructing a construct in her head, he's criticizing her for being shortsighted and not seeing the bigger picture, just as a commanding officer would. He reminds her that blowing up the station would mean she's throwing away her life pointlessly, because the X would continue to live on SR388 anyway. Only after that fact, does he say that "When Adam chose who would live, he chose incorrectly" as a deep-cutting criticism of Samus, because by choosing to throw away her own life, she'd doom the universe and make Adam's own sacrifice to save her pointless.
I played Metroid: Other M before this, and it impressed me how the latter, with this dialogue alone, was far more impactful than anything the former threw at us.
This entire cutscene makes very good use of its music timings, such as stopping the music the first time around when Samus accidentally calls the AI "Adam".
I feel like that would be a moment where she tears up more than anything. It makes sense she was surprised when the AI went from locking Samus in a room to then helping her devise a way to destroy the station as she had wanted.
I think how they did it is more effective. Letting the player react on their own, knowing it's a reflection of Samus' own reaction. Knowing you feel what Samus feels, without having to see her, and immediately taking control of her creates an emotional bond before going into the finale
@@cxvghf93387u Yes - Mario is being played by Chris Pratt in the new Mario movie, and it’s a meme how Adam talks up how jacked Raven Beak is the ENTIRETY of Metroid Dread. For a certain spoilery reason…
@@knight13117 thing is me and a friend have a theory that through out all of Metroid Dread, Samus wasn't talking to Adam at all.. and the theory stands quite well especially for going to Raven Beak.
I love the fact that after Samus calls AI Adam by name, his memories start to return, since this IS Adam Malkovich's consciousness, just in the form of an AI, a little lore tidbit I personally love. and while in the upcoming Dread, Adam has been stated to only exist for lore reasons and to provide exposition and hints to the player, not directly tell them where to go, I still love Adam's character.
I'm happy they're keeping the AI around for lore reasons. I'm still disappointed in how they handle his character in other m though. His whole big sacrifice that had me wondering for years what he did to save Samus's life really didn't feel right to me in other m. I mean I get it, he's still making a sacrifice so Samus doesn't have to be the one to go off and die. But I always imagined some kind of incident was happening, some big fight, or even a self-destruct countdown happened. I still like the AI version of him though
@@NanashiAkai Honestly, that sacrifice could've felt a lot more emotional, but the problem wasn't the idea of it. The problem lies with the buildup and delivery. From the start of Other M, Samus and Adam had no chemistry whatsoever. They explain how they frequently exchange subtle jokes with each other, but the way they show that is with both characters absolutely straight faced. Meanwhile Fusion actually managed to make their relationship feel like it was once extremely important to Samus. Without the proper buildup, Adam's sacrifice seems like a red herring. The way the station just floats off into space and you don't even see it exploding or anything like that forces the viewer into a state of expectation. And what do we get? A monologue at the end where Samus explains that he died.
@@Flomen01 I agree with everything you said. But you know what, I feel like Adam's sacrifice in Other M fails not only in delivery and build up, but in execution as well. At first I thought his sacrifice felt off because of the high expectations I had while playing Other M, but then I realized that destroying Sector Zero is overall pointless. Not only because there are Metroids still on the Bottleship (you fight a metroid queen and find metroid eggs too) but then The Bottleship gets destroyed by the Federation at the end of the game so...what was the point of going into Sector Zero again? I guess it's because the Metroids in sector zero are invulnerable to cold and Adam didn't want the Federation to get their hands on them, but even then...they could have done something to show the relationship between Adam and Samus like...i felt like Samus could have done the self destruct sequence and Adam would have helped with his ship, or maybe the opposite...dunno. It could have been done in a million ways honestly.
@@malditesta MB also told Samus to go to Sector Zero without mentioning the unfreezable Metroids. There was no way to deter Samus and MB was trying to get her killed. Adam knew that the ringleaders of the illegal Metroid bioweapons scheme would have succeeded if the unfreezable Metroids would have lived. Samus would have been unable to destroy them even though she was able to destroy all of the other Metroids, including the Metroid Queen. However, Ridley was a threat and Adam could not defeat him. Adam would have been killed by Ridley and Samus would have been killed in Sector Zero. He had to complete the mission and getting Samus to stand down wasn't possible. Therefore, he had only two options in that situation on the BOTTLE Ship. Both Samus and himself would have died and the mission to extract Dr. Bergman would have failed and the ringleaders illegal operation would have succeeded. Keeping in mind that they used his report to move forward with the breeding program for the their own reasons even though Adam rejected Dr. Bergman's proposal for it. The chairman of the Federation ordered him and his soldiers to secure all survivors on the vessel. The other option was sacrificing himself in order to destroy the Metroids using a method only he knew of, sending Samus to finish the mission, destroy the illegally bred Metroids throughout the rest of the vessel and defeat Ridley. He also told Samus not to trust the AI, MB and that she was no ally, which she wasn't. As a result, Samus finished his mission and lived to fight another day. Obviously the ringleader's operation was shut down because Metroids were being bred for "peaceful applications" on the BSL after the BOTTLE Ship was destroyed and Dr. Bergman was rescued from the Colonel (who was most likely one of the ringleaders). The ship's computer said that he chose incorrectly in order to get her attention for her last mission after she pleased/argued with him because Adam didn't want Samus to die ever when he made his decision. Adam Malkovich was the greatest military officer ever to serve the Galactic Federation. He saw that Samus was stronger than him and would one day become at least as wise as him. I think this conversation was also a test that proves Adam made the right choice in Other M. She would have the judgment and courage to save the universe against all odds and the strength of survive. And he was right
@@Flomen01 The stupid thing is I think the still-aggravating dynamic between Poe and Holdo in The Last Jedi is basically Samus and Adam from Other M done right.
@@PurpleBox89 So true. Fusion may get bashed for being linear, but it's linearity affords it a tighter focus on story and atmosphere. I'll be curious to see how Dread carries that particular torch - CLiP
Fusion had an incredible score through and through. Hoping that the Metroid team revisits the style of sound that was present here. In a non compressed fashion of course. P.S. Love your work. 🤙
I really want metroid to just bite the bullet and make the federation THE enemy for a game. Samus has actively thwarted their plans and on top of that is now likely the most powerful being in the galaxy and the last metroid. It would make sense for them to try and contain her.
They're probably scared of her. Samus could destroy the federation by herself and they probably know that. That might be the reason they wanted the SA-X
@@nardopol0 which is why they'd have to come up with someway to counter her. Say, something that strips her of all her power ups as is the requirement for all new metroid games.
@@anenemystand5582 y know, since samus basically is a complete metroid hybrid at this point, the feds are probably gonna try to detain her for experiments. Well... They can try, atleast. *chuckles at dread ending*
@@MrGrimm-eo5lc I think it would be neat. You could even go really far and have samus start without her suit like make her feel really vulnerable at the start. Really sell how dire the situation is.
The Federation aren't the bad guys but they have some corrupt factions inside them. The JP script makes this clear, however it was mistranslated in the west release of Fusion. The federation was never bad guys and that's why this plot "Samus x Federation" never happened.
@Ad Tbf most Chozo wanted to only use them to counteract the X parasites and attempt to balance that planets ecosystem. It was Raven Beak and the Mawkin that were like "hmm We could make an army of these creatures and conquer the galaxy"
“When Adam chose who would live, he chose incorrectly”. I finally understand this line. He says it after explaining that Samus’ plan (which she sees as a decision Adam would agree to) would only guarantee her own death, not the X. Clever writing!
I love how Samus has been silent the entire game outside of internal monologues, yet as soon as Samus learns the Federation is up to no good and wants to capture the X and SA-X (good luck with that one) she immediately throws them under the bus and tries to stop them. Her priorities are on helping people, and letting the X run free can't be allowed to happen. I like to think that SR388 ends up getting destroyed because it happened to get caught in the crossfire like it's an innocent bystander at the wrong place, wrong time.
she may not like doing it but if destroying the planet is what it takes to ensure the x can never spread out into the universe, nor allow any foolish scientist who doesn't know what they're messing with to try and weaponize the x, that's a price she'll pay. (even if it amounts to her having to allow yet another piece of her surrogate family's legacy to be destroyed)
@@Soulbone3 Destroying SR388 was probably the best outcome. Destroyed the X parasites native ecosystem, and whatever data and materials the Chozo used to first create the Metroids.
@@ninboy01 yea, plus prime showed it's not like the chozo are gone forever, nor is their legacy, they're still around...but the ones who made the metroids and their research, that was all zebes and sr388, with those gone no one can misuse the metroids again. (it's really a shoot the shaggy dog story too. they only made the metroids to keep the x under control, only to have what should have been their ultimate weapon for peace turn on them)
Destroying SR388 was part of the plan actually given it was the home planet of the Xs. You can say that the other ecosystem of the planet was caught in the fight but they were probably already doomed by the Metroid extinction and the Xs rising once again.
After seeing this in English I love the German localisation even more. When the AI becomes Adam, he's starting to use the informal "du"(you) instead of the formal "Sie"(you) he used throughout the game. 🙂
What's worse is that the retrieval of SA-X was going to end in distastor, since Adam confirms that it replicated 10 clones of itself. Possibly this whole time Samus might have already encountered the clones, with each of them demonstrating different abilities and behaviors.
@ArtBuffalo imagine a metroid fusion remake where SA-X is a constant looming pursuer sometime after its introduction, like the RE tyrants. also the SA-X At the hidden sector was destroyed, so all things considered its indeed very likely all the SA-X encounters where a diferent clone and maybe for plot convenience the last one we actually fight that we absorb in the end of the game was the original one that had "possesed" Samus original powersuit.
The ambiance on this was as tense as any other Metroid game without dialoge got. Really shows how a well written story can perfectly fit in a game such as Metroid, where loneliness is a watermark.
Samus only talks when necessary Here in fusion she's frustrated beyond belief that federation she used to serve would so callously endanger soldiers and scientists without a damn thought. SPOILER WARNING In Dread she wants to reassure Quiet that she will end what the Thoha unintentionally started
One of the most emotionally charged moments in the game. First, the horror at knowing the Federation wants to use the X as a weapon of war, even after all the damage they cause, solely to experiment in a grab for power is such a dark twist. Samus knows the X will eradicate all that exist solely to ensure their own survival, all because the Federation wants to use them as a weapon. Then Samus desperately pleads with Adam to open the hatch, only helping Adam realize who he once was again after mentioning his name. Then, as he slowly regains his memories, he talks like his military self, saying how he didn't sacrifice himself just to let Samus die a pointless death. He gives her his last command: To keep herself alive, for it was the only way. "No objections, right lady?" I am very happy to know that in Metroid Dread, Adam is solely just giving Samus what she needs to know, not ordering her around like he did in the military. Samus must walk her own path, and he's now only there to help her in whatever way he can. Even if it meant fighting against the Federation he fought and died for. I also love how we see that the new E.M.M.I robots are built by the Federation, and are not only out to kill Samus, but if you look closely, they seem to be trying to extract or inject her with a massive needle, for a purpose we don't know. I am so excited for Samus and Adam to continue their journey in Metroid Dread!
It’s funny how the X parasites resemble the Metroids despite being the exact opposite. The Metroids are constantly evolving, but the X instead steal the forms, knowledge and power of other organisms. The Metroids are the cause of the extinction of their creators, and likewise if the Federation had landed on the station, it would’ve spelled the end for the human race. As for the massive needle in Metroid Dread, this is probably to extract the X parasites that Samus absorbed, and/or to obtain her blood for the metroid vaccine that made her immune to the X, as the last SA-X fused with Samus during the fight against the Omega Metroid
@@robertcajucom3203 Yeah the remnants of SA-X could very much still be around. Perhaps the Federation wanted the creature to create some sort of invincible army, a bioweapon in suits of armor, not realizing it would give the X the power to eradicate the galaxy. If they're extracting Metroid DNA, that would effectively make Samus the last living Metroid. The Federation are fools to believe that such abominations could ever be useful to protect the galaxy. Whether its for the X or the Metroid DNA, if Samus gets killed by an E.M.M.I in Metroid Dread, humanity, and every other species in the galaxy will die.
Michael Kaduck: I agree. The Duo of Samus & Adam is so great and the uplifting ending of Metroid Fusion was truly needed after that tragic but good Super Metroid ending. And Adam letting in the critters from the main deck made me very happy😎
If the X Parasite or the Metroids return as a result of the Federation's violent gab for power, all galactic life will be destroyed. Only 2 months to hopefully stop such a catastrophe!
@@SpartanStan156 Since many people seem to miss the reference, Stan156 isn't saying something negative about Adam's catchphrase but they're just referencing Metroid OtherM where it is revealed that Samus answered with a thumb down to that catchphrase back when she joined the GF military and served under Adam.

@ArtBuffalo In the Japanese version it’s specified that a splinter cell of the Galactic Federation is corrupt, not the whole organization. Dread goes along with that instead of what Fusion’s English localization implied.
@@wildonionchase3934 That had me confused as to why Samus was taking a bounty from the Federation when she had just ruined their plans, that would actually explain a lot. Kinda unfortunate that we won't be getting a new storyline with the Federation as villains though, that could've been really interesting.
@@100organicfreshmemes5 I think there’s potential for that with Samus being waaaay more important than she already was for future experimentation for corrupt space organizations.
You know, I just realized. The "accessing a certain computer" methods in Fusion and Dread match the ones in their respective eras. In Fusion (2002), Samus types in a password. In dread (2021), she puts her arm canon in a scanner in a similar fashion to a fingerprint being scanned by modern tech. Nice touch.
A lot of fans (especially Prime fans) seem to be inherently against Samus talking, like it's a bad thing by default -- especially after Other M. I always end up wondering if they've ever played Fusion, because this scene handled it perfectly. Samus talking isn't a problem; it's Samus talking _too much._ It's great to see Dread handle this perfectly, as well.
Hell, her talking too much isn't even an issue, it's that Other M gave her such little to talk about, forced her to talk so much about it AND intentionally forced her actress to sound dull and emotionless. I'd love to hear more of Samus' inner monologue and see her converse and interact more.
@@Ninetails2000 Not to mention screwing up her character really, really badly in the first place, in ways that make absolutely no sense with the other games.
I love how ominous the beginning part is. The music really hammers it in. “We’re done her Samus, leave it to the federation.” And I love how Samus says the station would “eat them alive”. The whole thing is just like the twist in the first Alien movie.
What's interesting about this is that the federation and the space pirates are almost the same thing now, or even worse. The pirates wanted to use the metroids as a weapon, while the federation not only re created the metroids but also in the fully evolved form (something the pirates could not), and they also wanted to use the Xs and SA-X as well. Power corrupts

Spoiler warning for Dread "Would [Adam] sit in a safe command room and order you to die?" One Adam would, and shoot Samus in the back in front of a Metroid. Another, Raven Beak, would *beat* her, steal her upgrades, impersonate the late GF Commander, and _then_ sit in a safe command room and order her to die - while offhandedly insulting her and hyping himself up.
Even if you stare at raven beak it’s a 1 percent chance to survive -Adam 100% not anybody that’s can fly, shoot a hyper beam at will and can defeat the E.M.M.I with zero effort.
I loved how they gave background to this conversation in Other M. And i am intrigued how they will tie Fusion to Dread. Let me theorize, stupid Federation was able to capture a living X and put it in the E.M.M.I. body?
The last Metroid was destroyed in Super Metroid and the Metroid homeworld of SR388 was destroyed in Fusion along with the X-parasite. My guess is that the G-Fed created the E.M.M.I. to finally eradicate(or capture) the last living remnant of the Metroid - which happens to be part of Samus' DNA. She was infused with the Metroid at the start of Fusion to save her from the X-parasite attack.
I think the G-Federation is trying to get ahold of Samus's DNA, because she is infused with Chozo and most importantly Metroid DNA. As Nintendo described the initial plot of Metroid Dread, supposedly there's a notice that the X parasite is present in planet ZDR, but what I believe is that all of that is BS. The G-Federation knows that Samus is the only one immune to the X parasite, so she would likely be the first and only one to investigate a possible threat of the X parasite. Basically what I'm saying is that the G-Federation made up the notification of the parasite X being on planet ZDR, so they could lure her there and get her DNA, since the E.M.M.I. are research robot's that suck out DNA samples, and I guess they made them almost indestructible, because they either wanted to make them specifically impossible for Samus to destroy, or as DNA collectors, they were made ultra resist to prevent any lifeform from destroying them in the process of extraction.
@@danielmunoz1275 Making the Galactic Federation the villains in the end is actually pretty smart. Goes to show that research consumes them and not peace in the galaxy.
@@danielmunoz1275 It's more than that, not only Samus is part Chozo/Metroid but at the end of Fusion when she absorbed the Samus-X she became part X Parasite as well. Not only is Samus is the last repository of DNA of Metroid/X for the G-Federation to get a hold of, but despite all the changes to her DNA she still remains human where countless other beings were mutated beyond recognition. Samus will be hunted to the very ends of the galaxy for that alone.
I love the Implication that Samus Makes with the Federation Thinking they can capture the SA-X "Do they really think they can succeed?" She's Basically Saying "Bitch the Federation Can't Stand a chance against Regular me, The fuck you think they gonna do against a me that can fucking clone itself oh AND has fucking soulless Demon eyes!?
Greatest Metroid game of the series...truly imbeds the sense of horror; variety and adventure...whos here after the Dread reveal? Linearism is what made Metroid great! The sense of discovery and the mystery of what power up ability you would acquire next! I certainly hope Dread builds upon Fusions sense of horror and feeling of isolation, to think we were mere children when Fusion was released (19 years ago). Heres to all the Metroid fans whom passed waiting for a true 2D sequel let our anticipation and fandom carry the torch in their memory! Vcd
Samus actually had the mindset of the Chozo during this moment in regards to the X parasites. They too knew how much of a threat they were and created the Metroids specifically to combat them. Only the Chozo didn't expect an evolution cycle. The idea of the Chozo creating the Metroids came from Metroid: Samus Returns, which is a re-release of Metroid 2: Return of Samus. The timing for this was most likely on the same year Samus lost her parents since, according to the Metroid manga, they needed a substance found on the Federation colony that Samus herself once lived on. While the locals denied the Chozo, they were able to get what they needed after the Space Pirate attack wiped out most of the inhabitants. Since Samus was the only survivor, the Chozo took her to Zebes while their scientists completed their work somewhere else.
The main Thoha leadership was centered on Zebes, while the Mawkin headquartered themselves on ZDR. Both tribes colonized SR388 together, but the Mawkin genocided the Thoha on SR388 and then fell to the X on ZDR. Meanwhile, the remaining Thoha on Zebes were massacred by Mother Brain
My cannon is that Samus is almost brought to tears knowing she is trapped helplessly until the federation arrives unless she convinces Adam to let her leave, making Adams awakening more sentimental for her, she got her dear friend back and gets to save the Galaxy. I'd imagine her hand lingering on the control panel before leaving the room to finish the mission, elated and relieved but dearly wishing Adam was still in living biological form.
I remember reading that Mercury Stream originally proposed a Fusion remake. I wonder how a Fusion remake would work now, seeing as there is a lot of more Samus's dialogue in this game. Especially after Dread, in which she only has 2 lines.
Spoilers below. . . . . . . . . . . . . If you're referring to the part where Quiet Robe X sacrifices itself to neutralize Samus's metroid form, I interpreted that more as Quiet Robe controlling the X instead of the other way around. The Thoha were said to be able to control metroids; perhaps he was also powerful enough that he was able to control the X in his body. Perhaps he was able to influence the way that the interaction occurred between the X and Samus's metroid DNA.
You all are way more trusting than I am. Once I actually thought about the implications of the ending, Im pretty sure the Quiet Robe X (hereafter, QR-X) was making the sacrifice play, FOR the X. Im guessing there's an amount of X hidden on Samus' ship for a sequel hook if needed. There is zero reason to believe that Chozo could control the X at all. The only reason the thoha could control Metroids is because they were the ones who MADE the Metroids. The X were a natural occurence, who were so godawful dangerous that the Chozo made the Metroids to directly predate on them. So you have to consider: Why would an X help Samus? They wouldn't. But Samus is the only way off the exploding planet. QR-X knows two things of great importance: One, Samus is the only one who'll be able to fly her ship, because Adam sure as fuck wont let anyone else. And two, of all possible X forms, he currently has the only one that if absorbed into Samus will let her fly the ship AND could never be used anywhere else in the galaxy because Chozo DNA gives X-forms the dead eyes. And we know from Fusion that X are capable of making the sacrifice play for the good of the species. Both the Scientist X that tried to overheat the station and two different SA-X make different sacrifices for the good of the cause as it were, one to destr.oy the restricted section and one to let Samus destroy the Omega. So the play goes, slip a cache of disguised X onto the ship (god knows there's enough Chozo biotech lying around that the X can easily look mechanical if they want). Samus is unusually careless after escaping self destruct sequences (see Zero Mission post Mother Brain's SD) so she's unlikely to find anything that doesn't jump out at her. They make a break for it wherever Samus lands, lie low until she's offworld again then take over.
I like how Samus gave this Adam a thumbs down in response to when he said “Any objections lady?” just like the old Adam. What I find ironic is how this AI was based off the brain mapping of the original Adam that Samus had known before. At first I thought he was being an obedient federation prick, but when he told Samus a better plan to destroy the x parasites, I knew a part of the original Adam was in that programming somewhere. The cutscene was probably the best one in the entire game.
Gosh I love this scene. One of Samus and Adam's defining scenes as characters for me. I always took it as Adam not recovering his memories, but realizing that Samus had figured him out and just being SURPRISED and trying to cover his tracks. Everything he says in this scene, in this light, reads to me as him agreeing with Samus that the X have to be stopped but not initially willing to flagrantly disobey orders or reveal himself. So he's *goading her on* at first. Yeah the Feds are coming and oh noooo I caaaan't heelp youuuu - wait, you figured out the computer is me? Then he shifts to trying to get her to see what he would do in this situation, and she almost gets there, but when Samus proves unable to pick up on his hints in the heat of the situation, he gives up and spells his plan out. Adam and Samus bouncing off each other is so cool in Fusion. I hope that someday we can see more of it.
So a bit of this scene was lost in translation The other m that never was video explained it Not all the federation is corrupt, it's the army When samus says she wants to contact the federation, she is referring to HQ As in HQ, the federation army has an awful idea Also there is some extra foreshadowing only in the japanese script Samus called the AI Adam because it sounded like Adam
This reads as if AI Adam knew they were Adam but didn't have memories of Samus or his final moments. When he hears Samus call him Adam it's almost as if he's learning for the first time that he knew Samus previoisly, and is learning that he died to save her
Ah, back when Adam was presented as an important figure that meant a lot to Samus and this scene filled us with wonder and awe at the kind of man he was Only for Other M to make him out to be the absolute biggest dick that completely treated Samus like shit and somehow try to make it seem like Samus respects him for some reason Fuck Other M, man
Is Other M the kind of game people can just ignore like Star Fox Command? Dread has made me a lot more interested in the lor of this series. The only game I've played was Super Metroid and it was only for a few minutes
@@jeremyknight9980 Just watch cutscenes if you want to. Other M has a whole plethora of things that utterly disappoint me like that there was an utter lack in musical cues for picking up expansions, VERY FEW EXPLOREY BITS like in other games, and a Samus that went against her characterization in other games.
@@gameclipslibrary4348 I honestly haven’t heard her since her “Hey Ash” series. So I can’t imagine her as anything but the squeaky voice. I’m listening to an interview by her now. If she can pull off an authoritative voice, I’d be interested!
"When Adam decided who would live, he chose incorrectly." Translation: He shouldn't have chosen who should have lived. He should have considered other options.
This game was epic in general what would be sweet is if nintendo released the first metroid 2nd game super metroid and this on a game cartridge to celebrate samus
The Adam in this game (both in how he is built up through Samus’ dialogue and in this important scene) is just so much more interesting than the ridiculous gruff authority figure we got in Other M. I mean this one scene plays up ‘sacrifice’ and exceptional military mind in a way that you’re able to believe theres something to the character. Samus states that there a certain respect he has for her which just isnt seen in the events of Other M, where shes practically treated like a bit of a liability and where she’s desperate for his approval. Some things are just better left to the imagination - Other M addressed something that was better left untouched.
well I get that Other M happens before Fusion so we get to see how Adam was when he was alive. Very cold, experienced, hardened, yet shows some low key care. The mistake was making certain scenes too dramatic. Also making Samus's voice too monotoned during narrative like she's seen enough. Other than that, when Samus in the beginning of Metroid Fusion says, 'it makes me recall my other CO" really made me wonder who Adam was. The execution could've been better. It wasn't bad, but again Fusion is underrated too and was bashed before Other M came out. Few years have passed since Other M came out and it's still considered trash for poor execution on Samus's personality and Adam. People have a specific vision of how they see Samus. Fusion showed us how impulsive and emotional Samus got too especially at this scene here confronting Adam's AI. Still goes back to when Samus would throw her life away in Sector Zero instead of moving on to face Ridley and see her mission through to the end. My grief is if she saw Adam as a father figure, "one who understood me best" as she puts it, then where is that proof? Seems more of a commanding officer rather than a father. But again, people have those few that they consider family that isn't by blood. I think that was to be portrayed as something the audience can relate to during Samus's time in the Galactic Federation. Frankly, I actually liked those scenes cuz personally, I like history. And of course in her encounter with Ridley again, like I get that one would be surprised to see a former nemesis again, but where is the proof she ever had a family? Zero Mission? Where is the proof she even has one? Who are her biological parents? It's never even stated yet thrown in for plot purposes for a scene that proved to be way too dramatic. Sorry for the long rant.
@@zenith_blade3299 It's stated in the Manga that Ridley killed her mother in front of her, and her father died blowing up the Space pirate mothership that was in K-2L, this left Ridley stranded in K-2L and he survived by eating the corpses of the colonist. Little Samus also tried to be kind to Ridley but Ridley responded by trying to kill her, but her mother protected her and died in her place.
As I see it, Other M's Samus shows PTSD since Super's events and this scene shows she's not fully recovered yet in Fusion It's just she went from influenceable due to her half-broken psyche to so prone to anger she needs someone to keep her focused EDIT: I forgot the manga for a while 😓 there Samus acts more like at Other M (and don't tell me the manga isn't canon, cuz it IS 🙄 is official from Nintendo, if that's not canon tell me WTF is) EDIT2: the first edit is my oppinion, if the OFFICIAL Metroid manga's not canon to you I can understand it if you respect (not SHARE, just RESPECT) my *oppinion*

I am now confused because if I'm assuming correctly, The Adam in dread is the Adam from Fusion? But was the Adam before another AI or an actual human being (as s stupid ad that sounds) in kinda new to the Metroid series and lore though I have completed Dread and close to beating super and started to play Fusion
There are two Adams, Adam Malkovich, the human being in Metroid Other M, the game that takes place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, but there's also the Artificial Intelligence ADAM, which has the original Adam's conscious inside it to an extent. As you know, ADAM appears in Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dread.
They originally planned on remaking fusion but decided that it was good enough already and that Metroid 2 was in need of a remake more than 4. That being said I would like to see a remake of 4 with voice acting and the works. It would be easier to do it now more than ever, they could easily reuse the engine and assets from Dread and produce a remake within 2 years
@ArtBuffalo that’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard, who could have possibly given you that idea? Not only does that make 0 sense, but it shows just how childishly ignorant you are about anything related to game development and marketing.
How Adam acts is almost spot on to his demeanor in Other M. It fits almost too perfectly even though this game came first. Im probably the only one who bought their relationship in that game.
I love that this ending is just:
Samus: I'm gonna blow up the station
Adam: What? That's a terrible idea
Samus: ...
Adam: You gotta blow up the planet too

"When Adam decided who would live, he chose incorrectly."
I thought about this line a LOT, and reached a conclusion I haven't seen anyone state before, so here:
Samus thought that self-destructing the station was the only option available; she thought that Adam (the original one) would understand, and agree with that decision, and she used that feeling to validate her choice and steel her resolve.
And as a result, Adam saved the universe.
samus has a very self-sacrificial view of her life, to a point where she's already decided if her life is the price to pay to ensure the universe is safe she'd pay it, forgetting that the greatest protector of the universe is her, and until a new generation that can match up to her comes the universe still very much needs the hunter. i think it highlights that while she is a very thoughtful, wise and intelligent woman, there are times her emotions flair up, and this is one of those times. occasionally one has to remember she's 26 at this point, she may have wisdom but she's still susceptible to her youth
what i'm getting at is that's a pretty good assessment of this scene. i think it's made more powerful when you take into account everything that has happened to her up to this point, the amount of friends she's had to watch die (looking at you prime 3), the amount of suffering she's witnessed and endured herself, there come points where anyone would crack and react in a rash manner like she is here.
Adam saves the universe twice
@@Soulbone3 true
as I see it, Other M's Samus shows PTSD since Super's events and this scene shows she's not fully recovered yet in Fusion, it's just she went from influenceable due to her half-broken psyche to so prone to anger she needs someone to keep her focused
@@DarkShooter942 I'd argue her PTSD runs deeper than that. The Metroid prequel manga shows just how the events leading up to and also the events of the first game/zero mission hit her hard, and she was only 17 at the time. Then factor in everything after it, especially prime 3.
@@Soulbone3 oops 😓 I forgot the manga for a moment there
but it went worst after the baby sacrificed itself to save Samus from Mother Brain 😥 until then, she never mentally broke at any game when Ridley appeared
but, at Other M, her psyche collapse for a second time 😢 that Samus isn't a bad Samus, she's just fighting an inner war against the suffering she's been holding back for too long (she might be a badass hunter, but is also a human being)
I love how when the AI starts to regain Adam's personality, it makes some biting comments at Samus being willing to blow up the station along with herself. Saying things like "When Adam chose who would live, he chose incorrectly." When you realize that the AI IS Adam, that line has a lot more impact. It really comes off as "I didn't sacrifice my life just you could throw yours away!"
It took Samus 19 years to recover from that burn.
This scene and when the AI says “Any Objections, Lady” has lived in my head rent free for almost 20 years. It was such a cool reveal.
This dialogue is actually somehow touching, showing Samus's soft side
I played Metroid: Other M before this, and it impressed me how the latter, with this dialogue alone, was far more impactful than anything the former threw at us.

I LOVE how when ADAM, coming out of left field, states altering the stations orbit could include the planet, the eerie music suddenly stops completely
This entire cutscene makes very good use of its music timings, such as stopping the music the first time around when Samus accidentally calls the AI "Adam".
It's as if it was to reveal to us that the AI was on our side the whole time
after "Any objections, Lady?" should have been when Samus' surprised expression should have been shown.
I feel like that would be a moment where she tears up more than anything. It makes sense she was surprised when the AI went from locking Samus in a room to then helping her devise a way to destroy the station as she had wanted.
Dude I know.
@@Deadflower20xx and it's also the moment she found out that the ai is in fact a recreation of the Adam she respects
Precisely. That should've been the face expression moment.

Out of context.

The Federation aren't the bad guys but they have some corrupt factions inside them. The JP script makes this clear, however it was mistranslated in the west release of Fusion. The federation was never bad guys and that's why this plot "Samus x Federation" never happened.
It's ironic that the Federation wanted to use the X as a weapon when the X was gonna use the Federation as its weapon to take over the galaxy.
The Federation would just bring their invincible EMMIs LOL. Nothing the SA-X can do about those guys.
And the Metroids are just dumb animals that smart animals (bird people, chozo) wanna turn into weapons. How poetic.
@Ad Tbf most Chozo wanted to only use them to counteract the X parasites and attempt to balance that planets ecosystem. It was Raven Beak and the Mawkin that were like "hmm We could make an army of these creatures and conquer the galaxy"
power mongering and greed often ends that way...such forces creat monsters and weapons of the worst kind only for it to destroy them.
@Dakota Stein Well thats not what happened to the Chozo though Raven Beak being an asshole is what happened
“When Adam chose who would live, he chose incorrectly”. I finally understand this line. He says it after explaining that Samus’ plan (which she sees as a decision Adam would agree to) would only guarantee her own death, not the X. Clever writing!
Funny how Adam is more considerate as a robot. Maybe he found himself regretting letting Samus into the lava rooms without a varia suit.
Except the X parasites and the Metroids both come from SR-388. It was more like making sure nobody could use either of them again.
she may not like doing it but if destroying the planet is what it takes to ensure the x can never spread out into the universe, nor allow any foolish scientist who doesn't know what they're messing with to try and weaponize the x, that's a price she'll pay. Destroying SR388 was part of the plan actually given it was the home planet of the Xs. You can say that the other ecosystem of the planet was caught in the fight but they were probably already doomed by the Metroid extinction and the Xs rising once again.

Samus only talks when necessary
Here in fusion she's frustrated beyond belief that federation she used to serve would so callously endanger soldiers and scientists without a damn thought. SPOILER WARNING
In Dread she wants to reassure Quiet that she will end what the Thoha unintentionally started
Fucking EXACTLY
"No objections, right lady?"
I am very happy to know that in Metroid Dread, Adam is solely just giving Samus what she needs to know, not ordering her around like he did in the military.

10:22 That startled me when I first played this game.
Adam: "Any objections lady?"
Samus: 🥲👎
I love how ominous the beginning part is. The music really hammers it in. “We’re done her Samus, leave it to the federation.” And I love how Samus says the station would “eat them alive”. The whole thing is just like the twist in the first Alien movie.
7:00 "One must die and one must live..." Oh, wrong game.

Spoiler warning for Dread
"Would [Adam] sit in a safe command room and order you to die?" One Adam would, and shoot Samus in the back in front of a Metroid. Another, Raven Beak, would *beat* her, steal her upgrades, impersonate the late GF Commander, and _then_ sit in a safe command room and order her to die - while offhandedly insulting her and hyping himself up.
I hear that raven beak guy has a six pack
"Raven Beak is way too powerful. He gets all the Chozo girls. You wouldn't have a chance against such a chad."
-Adam, definitely, and not anyone else
Even if you stare at raven beak it’s a 1 percent chance to survive
-Adam 100% not anybody that’s can fly, shoot a hyper beam at will and can defeat the E.M.M.I with zero effort.
@@ClaretWartooth that would be a very cool plot
I love the Implication that Samus Makes with the Federation Thinking they can capture the SA-X "Do they really think they can succeed?" She's Basically Saying
"Bitch the Federation Can't Stand a chance against Regular me, The fuck you think they gonna do against a me that can fucking clone itself oh AND has fucking soulless Demon eyes!?

God, this scene is so cool
Greatest Metroid game of the series...truly imbeds the sense of horror; variety and adventure...whos here after the Dread reveal?
Linearism is what made Metroid great! The sense of discovery and the mystery of what power up ability you would acquire next!
I certainly hope Dread builds upon Fusions sense of horror and feeling of isolation, to think we were mere children when Fusion was released (19 years ago).
Heres to all the Metroid fans whom passed waiting for a true 2D sequel let our anticipation and fandom carry the torch in their memory! Vcd
Have you had a chance to play Dread yet? Kinda curious on your thoughts on how it pulled things off.
Any objections lady
I read Adam's dialogue in his Dread robot voice.
Such a fantastic moment.
Its really funny to see 'The X cannot copy the soul' considering the ending to Metroid Dread.

You have to remember, these guys knew how the X parasites work. They did create something to fight againsts them.
You have to keep in mind that Chozo who are infected by X don’t lose their minds entirely
@@FenrirStrife1 Adam can detect if there are any x-parasites in the ship like he did in fusion
5:28 I'm sorry Samus, I'm afraid I can't do that.

She recognizes that name! That’s where the Metroids lived.
I've replayed fusion over a 100 times, and I can easily go 100 more :)

His conciousness was moved to a computer
Any objections, Lady?
God Samus has such beautiful eyes.
I wish there was a way to use Adam's voice from Metroid Dread and have it voice the dialogue for this game
She should’ve just pushed the self destruct button and call that a day.
So a bit of this scene was lost in translation
The other m that never was video explained it
Not all the federation is corrupt, it's the army
When samus says she wants to contact the federation, she is referring to HQ
As in HQ, the federation army has an awful idea
Also there is some extra foreshadowing only in the japanese script
Samus called the AI Adam because it sounded like Adam
I always thought the scene with the closeup of Samus should’ve happened after the computer (Adam) said any objections lady?
This reads as if AI Adam knew they were Adam but didn't have memories of Samus or his final moments. When he hears Samus call him Adam it's almost as if he's learning for the first time that he knew Samus previoisly, and is learning that he died to save her
I like the music intro for every video of yours

Who else is reading this in DREAD's voice?
This entire conversation is the plot reveal of Nintendo and their NSO expansion service to the customer.
Ah, back when Adam was presented as an important figure that meant a lot to Samus and this scene filled us with wonder and awe at the kind of man he was
Only for Other M to make him out to be the absolute biggest dick that completely treated Samus like shit and somehow try to make it seem like Samus respects him for some reason

To think we almost got Diffusion missiles is crazy....
Other M was a mistake
well I get that Other M happens before Fusion so we get to see how Adam was when he was alive.
As I see it, Other M's Samus shows PTSD since Super's events and this scene shows she's not fully recovered yet in Fusion
It's just she went from influenceable due to her half-broken psyche to so prone to anger she needs someone to keep her focused
EDIT: I forgot the manga for a while 😓 there Samus acts more like at Other M (and don't tell me the manga isn't canon, cuz it IS 🙄 is official from Nintendo, if that's not canon tell me WTF is)

As you know, ADAM appears in Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dread.
what if they did a remake of Metroid Fusion but with Metroid Dread graphics
They originally planned on remaking fusion but decided that it was good enough already and that Metroid 2 was in need of a remake more than 4. That being said I would like to see a remake of 4 with voice acting and the works. It would be easier to do it now more than ever, they could easily reuse the engine and assets from Dread and produce a remake within 2 years
@ArtBuffalo that’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard, who could have possibly given you that idea? Not only does that make 0 sense, but it shows just how childishly ignorant you are about anything related to game development and marketing.
