- There's an unlimited supply of "Hey Hey" covers and lessons on RUclips. Virtually all are ignoring the nuance that made us fall in love with this piece to begin with, and Big Bill was too important for his impeccable style to get lost to history. This month I attempt to right the ship and reclaim the nuance that has been ignored for far too long. Please come join us on my Patreon for access to a lesson video just under an hour long and my transcription of "Hey, Hey Baby" as performed in the late 50s on the Smithsonian Folkways release. / andrewlardnerguitar

I love this Andy. Sounds more like Big Bill than any other version. The thumping bass line is much more difficult than it seems and key to style. I put Woody Mann's version in this same category. You are so right the nuances are a big part of Big Bill's genius as a player. A true master.
Thank you. I’ve been playing this for 15 years. The bass is enigmatic. I think of it differently now than I used to then. If I’m getting close I’m happy.
Well played love it one of my favourite songs another great version is by Nick Charles have a listen 🎶
ITS ME AGAIN CECILIA!!!😄💯 this is perfect 👌 "+~Music~+"
Every month Andrew reminds us why playing guitar is awesome 👍
nothin' like a little BBB to start your day! Thanks Andrew, superb as always.
That would put a smile on Tony. Sweet!
That's what I'm talking about...sounding great Andy!
Great playing and great tone....as usual!
Love it! Very nice 👍😀🙏
Andy does it again! Great job!
Alan is back to say hello! I miss elementary school.
Impeccable playing, true to Big Bill. Especially the right hand muting, percussive thumb technique and all of the melody and subtle brushing with just the index finger. I think this is the first song I learned with John S at UWM from Pete Seeger's "summer camp" footage. Still so much fun to play. Nice to revisit it here.
Thanks Josh. Miss seeing you feels like a different lifetime
Awesome work Andy! Super clean 🔥 💪🏻 I’ve had a blast working on this piece.
Fantastic timing, I was just trying to put together a basic version of Hey Hey a couple weeks ago and was thinking of revisiting it in a bit more detail soon!
nailed it
He's even got the tactical inner wrist positioning of the watch. I think I saw that on John Fahey too in some picture😋
Nice playing 👍
great stuff
👏👏👏
👌🏻
I love your Larson sound the most!
Fun guitars! Each one unique.
@@andrewlardner I'm enjoying to play my New Era guitar EUPHONON by Tony Klassen & PRAIRIE STATE by John Greven.
That's wonderful. Tony was a very good friend of mine, I still miss him every day. You are lucky to have one of his guitars.
Fantastic job! Just like slowhand played it!
Weird I'm not being allowed to add a snarky reply
@@andrewlardner Our internet overlords know Clapton is god
@@benbo21 Maybe this is an in-joke, but I think Andrew is critical of Clapton's version because Clapton changed/missed a lot of the details.
@@joshbaum8856 it is, I’m always teasing him that Clapton is the greatest.
Your picking technique on this piece is so cool. Great stuff
Thank you, as Big Bill played it.
Hey Mo Beard Again Jr. well played.
