Edit: the original aquaponics if it can be considered that, were the fishes living directly in the paddy fields; which exit the paddy "squares" to a water reservoir during harvesting time. Don't think local farmers have a pond with cultivated fish that specifically produce nutrients for the paddy field. Source:grandparents were/are paddy farmers.
