  • I am finally doing a reaction to Future Breed Machine by Meshuggah. This video is from Download Festival in 2005, and yep, my thumbnail says it all. This performance was amazing! I give a few insights at various parts of the performance, but for the most part I was enjoying just rocking out!     Fredrik Thordendahl is one of the best gitarrists for me, his powerful playing and the solos influenced with all from Jazz to just genius creativity, and a superb human to that... Meshuggah is the pride of our small city of Sweden..

    "I" by Meshuggah is a good one. 21-minute mind-bending masterpiece. Probably the most impressive piece of music composition I've heard so highly recommend doing a reaction to that!

    That bridge...with the airy dissonant guitar and the jazzy rim strikes, into that tension-building section with the pounding tribal tom fills, into that straight beat down riff, has to be one the greatest metal moments ever laid down on tape. It just never gets old.

    Came for the Meshuggah.
    Checked out the Maniacult cover right when ya said it though.
    No idea who they were or what to expect.
    Fucking tight, man.

    That's ridiculously fast.
    Gives me good insight as to your understanding of the drumming world and it's always great to see an actual musician's take on Meshuggah's signature approach!

      you have no idea how much i appreciate this! i know many people that are here pretty much only watch my reaction videos but the fact that you watched my drum cover means alot because that content is very time consuming and tough to produce. Putting our music is my passion and like you mentioned it shows people that i dont just have "metal drummer reacts" on my thumbnails for show.

    As i entered the metal world only last year, everywhere i look i see Meshuggah and Gojira....i will inevitably get to them once i "mature" further on my metal journey, too complex for now 😆
    Great reaction, wish i'd heard more of a breakdown of the drums but great piece and really cool to see you get so into it 🤘🍻

    From the album Destroy Erase Improve released in 95' a band ahead of their time.. The bands from back in this era of Metal were Not doing anything like this. I have nothing to say other than that honestly.. Great choice to react to man.💀🤘

    I love that one of the first band-centric things you point out was how crunchy the bass is. I especially love it because there was, for some reason, an entire faction of metal/Meshuggah fans who thought there was no bassist… like, bro, what are you even listening to to think they might not have a bassist?

    Dude I fucking LOVE your commentary! When you say the things you do I'm always like "FUCKING YES THAT'S EXACTLY HOW I THINK OF IT!" Haha. Especially with this video. Great content! Meshuggah is a god damn machine. Literally one of the only bands I've never been able to accurately figure out time wise.

    I saw meshuggah live a few months ago and was pretty sad they didn't play this song, because them playing it live now is the craziest thing.
    But then everyone wanted an encore... Sure enough, it was this song that I've wanted in person for so long.
    To say it was the best song and experience of my life would be putting it lightly, it was fucking amazing.
    Best band I've seen live so far, everything sounded exactly like the album and it blew my mind.
    Also, you said something about the method they recorded. On their second to last album "The Violent Sleep of Reason" everything was a "live" studio recording. It made for one of the best flowing and vibing albums I've ever heard, it's honestly crazy...

    Fredrik the lead guitarist shared lead vocals duties on their first album Contradictions Collapse. Him and Jens (who played rhythm guitar at the time) would completely switch lead vocals from song to song.

    Meshuggah has been one of my favorite bands for the past 13 years. They were SO ahead of their time it's ridiculous. If you listen to their very early shows while they were still in Sweden, they do sound the same..just tightened everything up beautifully.

    YAy good to see you back again :) hope you're well. This was a great reaction that was chunky delight, I will add that the bass being so prominent is a minor miracle of mixing bearing in mind they have 8 string guitars. They are an absolute powerfouse.

      Yes, but they're aren't using them for this song. They started using 8 string guitars on "Nothing". Up until then it was 7 strings :3

    Glad you're digging deeper into Meshuggah. At some point now you need to go listen to the studio version. Anyways, you got a lot of ground to cover with this band. Have fun falling into that rabbit hole! This band has a way of completely changing your perspective no matter how long you've been listening to and/or playing music. They tend to have a profound effect on musicians.

    I don't want to make it about race, but I'm loving that more and more races are jumping into metal every day, every hour. Metal brings us all together, and it makes us bang our heads against our will (but not in a bad way, of course). And I'm always here for it.

      I definitely don't mind race being brought up in this way. I take this as a positive. There has definitely been some really negative people about it on my channel. (i even made a PSA video on a a short while back). Ive been metalhead for a very long time and i also enjoy seeing people of all races get into it because at the end of the day we are all people, and music is our one truly universal language

    If you're still looking for some left field songs, I still love "Spasm" from "Nothing", got the original album back in the day and it's such a great connection between "old" Meshuggah (like here) and "new Meshuggah". That song just draws me in so much that I cannot even say that it's so over the top technical or jazzy, it's just a very well written song.
    Love your analyses and your focus on the emotional connection because that's what music is about, isn't it?

    On the last tour they played this at the last encore song... with insane red and blue lights strobes it just completely bent the reality... to something unreal.

    If you haven't already, check out some of the album recording documentaries on RUclips. So worth a watch. Get the hear their perspectives from each member. One thing I remember one saying was they write music more scientifically than emotionally. Easily one of my top bands. Tomas is just brutal.

    Jens and Fredrik both played guitar and took turns singing in the early days. Then Jens just wanted to focus on one thing in the band so they got Marten to join.

    I got hammered with the drummer of Entombed , we were very lucky to play with them. I asked him how tight messhugah were as this song and album are pivotal as an influence. He says, they will kill you lol😅

    My favorite meshuggah albums are Koloss, followed by Nothing, Immutable, ObZen and Violent Sleep of Reason. I'd LOVE for you to react to Behind the Sun, it's my favorite track of theirs!!
    My suggestions would be Straws Pulled at Random, Ritual, Lethargica, The Demon's Name is Surveillance, Phantoms, Marrow, Rational Gaze and Sublevels.

    The live version of In Life is Death/In Death is Death from this very same concert is a true masterpiece. One of the heaviest things on the planet..I think I like it better than the studio version. The editing footage on this concert should come with a seizure warning though lol it's all over the place, but it does fit the sound

    I think technically the singer "messes up" just at the end, doing that long scream early.

    Up until the DEI album, Meshuggah had a ton of really great backing vocals in their songs.
    Then they suddenly completely abandoned them for some reason.
    I was always a bit disappointed with that choice.

    According to the band it's all in 4/4 with polymeters. Parts of their first album sound like some odd signature though, back when they were still playing thrash (meshuggah style).
