    I started to try to educate my mother on cat nutrition but she asked me not to because she was afraid she couldn't afford a raw diet for her 3 cats and didn't want to stress every time she fed them. She did start buying a brand with meat as the first ingredient so that's a step in the right direction!

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 года назад +22

      Aw, yes that definitely is! Your mom seems to understand it's what might be best, but that's an understandable reason why she can't feed it. Little steps are so much better than none at all.

      @@PawsofPrey Hello! I am new to your channel and I am actually from Brazil. I have been reading quite a bit about cat's nutrition. To be fair, I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the information. I do believe I should raw feed my cat, but there are so many nutrients and important things to consider and - unfortunately - where I live I am unable to subscribe to a raw food service; so for now I have been trying to buy the best available dry food (N&D, it has more protein and lots of natural ingredients) and I also feed my cat one sache of wet food (Royal Canin Light - she is a bit overweight, because I wasn't as aware of cat's nutrition a while ago). It is a rabbit whole I am going down, but I do want to learn more about cat's diet and I want to one day know enough to make her food that is good and healthy. Thank you for all your content!

      Nicole, here's what I discovered my cat likes. Chicken drumsticks! Not Livers or hearts. Only chicken drumsticks! I cut up a little piece with scissors. I do pull back the skin but maybe the skin could be good for himI'll try it next time ! And A drumstick cost less than a dollar! A lot cheaper and healthier than cat food in a can. I'm also feeding him human tuna fish light in water! And I also Rents the salt Off the tuna fish before I feed him. You gotta be careful because I only use tuna fish once or twice a week. And I also mix the 2 together tuna fish and cut up chicken drumsticks for a different variety. Oh, I also sprinkle just a little dry food . He thinks it's BONE from a REAL ANIMAL !! Makes him. VERY HAPPY! A d appararantly he likes his chicken .... CHILLED!!!!

      Thank you! So powdered eggshells are a good source of calcium, but they don't contain phosphorus which is essential. If your cat isn't eating raw meaty bones, first try grinding or pulverizing the raw meaty bones, and if that doesn't work, supplement with a high quality bone meal powder.

  • @pepcaladno6251
    @pepcaladno6251 2 года назад +1

    after feeding my cat a raw diet for over 5,5 years I finally gave up and added kibble...
    He was grown on raw food and he ate almost everything and then with age he started to get pickier and pickier, he became so picky he left portions of food, eating about 1% or less of his weight while only eating muscle meat (only lean beef or chicken breasts, some liver and kidney), sometimes (like once a month or so) he would try chicken neck. He only likes eating whole-day-old chickens, but all his diet contains no freaking source of calcium at this point. I can get him 3-weeks old whole quail, but they are so rare (and expensive) and I get them in bulk (25 birds) once every 4 or 5 months and it's not enough. He can be picky about eating feeder mice, he doesn't eat eggs.
    I was firm with him and didn't add any treats or other food if he didn't eat the meal but it didn't work and he lost so much weight. He became so skinny and bony and his fur is awful, I am tired and I hate it.
    So now he gets 40% of his daily food as high-quality kibble to fill the gaps he might have and 60% as meat, organs, fish, and day-old chickens.
    However, I will try to keep his diet as raw as possible..

      I feel you seriously. My cat is 7 now and started half a year ago. Shes alright with lean beef and chicken breast but from what I hear they like thighs and wings and such. But I had to cover the meat with wet canned cat food at first and i just stopped adding the canned food and she looks at me like wtf dad but eventually eats it. I think I'll get wings and thighs to try. But keep strong we should not feed our animals crud.

    I don’t yet have a cat, but when I get one I would like to feed it a raw diet. However, I am scared that in the beginning the motivation will keep me going, but that it will be harder to keep up after time. In addition, my apartment only has a smaller freezer, and I wonder if it is feasable to go through one whole of an organ, before switching it up to keep the amound kept at a time at a minimum?

    • @DemonFelicity
      @DemonFelicity 3 года назад +5

      I have a small studio and a small freezer and I have been feeding my cat raw since november 2020. Honestly it's faisable to store the organs in your freezer :) depends what organ you give him. I often give him chicken kidney, beef brain, testicles, etc. All can be cut up and stored in your freezer. I can only keep two weeks worth meat + extra organs in my freezer but it works fine. Of course it's another organisation and you have to be motivated :) but it's also about habits. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes your routine. Hope this helps :)

      Yes, for instance chicken. This is all while adding more raw and reducing the commercial food (as long as they're taking to it well)

    I just started feeding my dog raw food based on a chart i found and it says the 80% of meat they need can only be fed 2-3 times a week along 10% bone, 5% excreting organ, 5% liver. (Liver as well 3 times a week) i feed him brain, heart, testicle, liver ground beef with pureed carrots broccoli and spinach and a chicken leg. In the afternoon i feed him 2 chicken legs and a 7oz ball of the ground beef. Now where i am really confused and where my question comes in is what do i feed my dog the other 4 days out of the week Because i fed him what he needed the first 3 days of the week? (Hes 50lbs i also weigh out all his raw meat and i need to feed 10oz in morning and afternoon which comes out to being a little more than a pound a day and i need to meet his daily requirements which is food intake for his size) i definitley feel like im not balancing something right any tips would really me out please and thanks

      Idk what chart you are using but that’s incorrect. I believe the meal should be balanced everyday.. not 2-3 times a week & given ground meat the other days. Bone should be given daily about 10% of the meal(I give mine 12%) and organ is 10% daily. Check out perfectlyrawsome.com & look up the calculator. You sound like you’re on the right path. You can feed a premade raw. Just read the ingredients and add what it needs.

      A lot of people have that fear. I started my dogs on a raw diet about a month ago. I have been tweaking it here and there since; just trying to do more research and improve. It’ll take time.

    Believe me it is worth it! Cats can indeed get diabetes.
