- Updated for 2020. In this series, we will be building a city from the ground up, no mods, just vanilla gameplay. Whether you're playing on PC, Xbox, PS4, or Switch, this episode will help you get started with garbage, healthcare, and education. We will cover the basics of landfills, health clinics, and schools, as well as go over loans and taxes.

Something that helped me as a total beginner is the following
- milestones give you money, so don't take unnecessary loans
- traffic issues will impact everything, garbage collection, residents getting to work (to the point that shops are not able to hire), fire workers and so on
- don't be scared to build more schools than you think are necessary
- no need to rush and build too much too quickly, just put the game on maximum speed and let it run
- consider moving building, changing your city design
- landfills fill faster than you think
- once unlocked, take the time to create buslines
- some shops/ industry need uneducated workers
- if you want to build cycling lanes on their own, use the land creating tool, cycling lanes do not sit under the road construction

Plan ahead for your future road network, adding extra space between roads for when they expand into wider roads.
Use pathways, as peeps love to walk, so make sure your ‘secondary’ road network is functional.
Bridges cost more than tunnels to maintain (iirc), so plan wisely
My landfill has no trucks in use so garbage won’t be collected, I have the budget high and it doesn’t say it is low on workers

Even the base game is infinitely better than SimCity (2013). And a lot better than SimCity 4...however I do miss having deals with other cities from SimCity 4 and 3000.

This is the best beginners guide series I've found for Cities. Clear and concise without getting too into the weeds. The fact that you work to update it every so often is awesome, too.

Same now I have no idea what todo what do I build, how do I manage. I’m struggling loosing citizens and stuff because I tried togo out on my own. I also have power lines in the dumbest places because I don’t know where else to get power. 🙃

Just got the game for free with PS Plus and didn't know there was free dlc for it. Thank you so much for letting us know about the green cities add on! Really want to aim for a city with renewable and reusable energy.
i really enjoy how you explained this. Interested in seeing where the series goes - perhaps talking about milestones and how to start effectively expanding. I have trouble with locking myself out of space and dealing with the introduction of high density. Trying to figure out how to build new areas on the map or expanding organically is also something I'm struggling with.
J Johnson it takes practice :). I’d highly recommend using aerial photos of places in RL that are similar to what you are building. Also, just try drawing a road in the new area. Don’t connect it to your existing network and build a self contained area, then connect it.

One of the things I’d highly recommend is while your are building, don’t forget to zoom in and look at things from the POV of the peeps, it can inspire cool stuff.

Awesome, I've just got this game on game pass and love it, from the UK. I could only see a few free DLC's but got them installed, not sure it was the one you mentioned.
I've just unlocked loads of milestones, your videos have really helped me understand the game, looking forward to what the hell districts means and the fact I can add trees and canals, basically I'm trying to make the City of Bath in the UK. A beautiful place with crescents and rivers and trees, very tricky.

I need help. Basic garbage functions are easy enough to understand. But, once you have a decent-sized city, garbage is a nightmare. I had a huge garbage outbreak (for lack of a better term) so I had to throw incinerators all over the place until the mess became less messy. Unfortunately, now each incinerator is only using 2 or 3 trucks and I'm spending a fortune keeping all the buildings running. I'd love to see how you deal with this issue once your city hits 200k people.
I e also just gotten the recycling plant, so could use some help understanding how that differs from the incinerator.

I have become addicted to this game lol it's just so fun to me. My husband pays for Xbox Game Pass and I decided to try it and well for the past 4 days I have played multiple hours every day lol. This game is actually pretty hard if you are a beginner, but as you learn the mechanics and how the game plays it becomes easier and you can have fun with it. My goal is to build a bigger city with lots of buses and bikes and hardly any cars. I wish I lived in a more walkable city but the US has almost no walkable cities and it sucks. The city planners in real life suck lol, I hate having to drive everywhere. Cars are dangerous and pollute the environment everyday. I want to build a city that I would like to live in lol. Thanks for all the tips! I had no idea about the zoning selection tools and that each line when building roads equates to 5 or 10 spaces. I will definitely take your tips and make my city better. :)
Great video, but I'd suggest one correction: the green highlight when you place a civic service is not depicting the coverage of said service; rather, it is indicating the happiness of Cims that are nearby. For example, placing a school or a police station in a residential area will cause the Cims closest to it to receive a happiness boost, but all kids in a city can still go to the school, even if their roads are not green.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I learned this a few days ago.

I remember watching you a few years ago when City sktlines was free on xbox and i tried following along and i couldn't seem to gain money, but like 2 or 3 years later i for once i have a city that works, the irony of my city being called my dignity makes me laugh cause i thought it was gonna fail again.

So once you've expanded to a few tiles is not possible to put your garbage/recycle centers on the outskirts of town? Ive done this recently and from what ive noticed they appear to work similarly to a "bus depot". It may take longer for the trucks to get where they need to initially but seems to work more or less the same. Is that more just a preference and efficiency thing? Hate slapping them down in commercial areas or near downtown.
So my question isn't on this subject but can it clusters be used instead of the industrial areas I've noticed when I put it clusters in there's not enough vendors to sell too for industry and the IT cluster

I remember first playing this on its initial release on PC religiously for a few weeks, then I lost interest. I just started on my Series X and i'm obsessed. I've even bought a wireless mouse and keyboard just to play it🤣

Noobie here in PS4. I have a fairly large city going, 4 tiles, info view shows garbage coverage all green I am CONSTANTLY getting garbage piling up notifications. Checked the routes for one of my sites and the truck route was going to the other side of the map. I checked every dump site and recycling center and they are all traveling across the city to get the trash. I’m a missing something when I place the dumps?
I have a question I've set all my taxes to 13% just like you did however my low density keep rinsing higher all by itself?
I have a problem with my landfill.Although it is working properly,it doesn't fill up the garbage and I have garbage issues as icons all over the houses.What is happening?
I totally missed the DLC sale! I downloaded the main game but didn't even look at the DLC. Now I regret that. Are there any essential DLC's? Should I wait for another sale? It seems like Green Cities and Mass Transit are good ones to have but I heard Industrial too. I don't really want to spend too much on DLC. So any advice? (Great video series btw)

mayor's edition is on sale this week on PS4 for $29.99, includes the season pass 1 and 2 content. That is everything but some of the content creator packs and Campus and Sunset Harbor expansions.

I always find a problem with the electricity and can never get it to work
The green street coding is strictly notional. As far as I ca tell, even if service is available from a closer source (fire, incinerator, etc.), often a city service vehicle will be dispatched from he opposite side of the city.

Hey, my buildings on the edge still have that icon above them saying they don't have electricity even though they are in the area it says electricity is available
Most likely not enough power from the plant. Time to add another or up the budget. Buildings furthest away from the plant will complain first.

In my game of cities skylines, there are only garbage landfill and steam facility for burning trash to make electricity, is there any solving way without creating pollution?
Garbage will always pollute. A little less with DLCs like Green Cities. The Eden Project monument can reduce pollution almost completely in the end game. So keep building!

I am having education issues, I'll have loads of different types of schools in my city and more than enough people. But my stores still don't have enough educated workers. I did everything to boost the education in my city. Do you know what might be the problem?
