- All signs point towards Adrian Newey joining Ferrari in 2025, with both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc responding to the rumour. Hamilton would "very much" like to work with Newey, who is at the top of his list for team members, saying "we'll see" when asked on the chances of Ferrari pulling off the acquisition alongside his move from Mercedes.

typically no team let a guy like that walk to the competition whenever he pleases with all the up to date IP of the team. So its certainly a good moment for newey to go cause at the moment they can cut him from the F1 design team so he wouldnt be in the loop anymore... if hed waited a year RBR likely wouldve pushed back.

Had a quick search and saw 2nd February Lewis announced his move and 6th of Feb Horner was to be questioned.
It could be that was known about beforehand but unsure if people may be putting the cart before the horse here.
If it isn't clear, I brought Horner up because I assume that's what unsettled Newey. I could be wrong and it could have been brewing for a while before that, such as when Horner played down Newey's importance, but still I think the allegations and turmoil in the red bull camp are likely the straw that broke the camels back.
All he wanted was a healthy environment, seemingly, and that has imploded. One can never assume anything in F1.
Lewis is close with Fred, he probably told Lewis something behind the scenes like "it's a long shot, but we'll try and get Newey along with the moneys. How does that sound?"

For me, moving to Ferrari has just turned out to be a lucky and fortunate move... bet he cant believe it. He will have to beat Charles if he wants that 9th title though.
@@paulhope3401 Indeed. However I do recall there were suggestions Newey was thinking about leaving red bull last year and maybe the Horner saga is the straw that broke the camels back.
It's possible there were rumours Newey was unhappy and thinking of leaving, but can't say anything for certain that Lewis had foreknowledge of that.
It isn't even certain he'll join Ferrari anyway.
I'm a bit surprised about the comments from Craig Slater or rather the people that said then, if true. He's not even out the door yet and this whole thing seems to have been managed a bit poorly, from someone who is a good TP too.

It's easy for max to say that about someone who has already sent his resignation letter, he wouldn't say the same if Newey was still at redbull without rumors of leaving. Williams said the same too look @ their performances after newey left.

Not really downplaying he's brilliant but he's also the only designer who gets the praise he does. The British media love praising him to take away from the talents of the drivers of his cars meanwhile they didn't do the same for James Allison who literally built the fastest car in F1 history probably because their favourite driver had the privilege of driving his cars.

IF that's the case then it could be a blinder played, but isn't the only factor. It doesn't automatically win championships either.
Although having Newey would be a major asset to get close.
Most, if not all of his red bull cars have been good to top cars and even the Toro Rosso had pole and won with Vettel.

Really puzzled by this comment. I'm not the guy saying that Newey is a given to win championships and yes I can see that could be the case that Ferrari look well placed to take the fight to red bull.
All I said was not to count chickens before they've hatched, or, in other words, don't assume Ferrari are getting Newey and that will be a given they're going places. It gives them a good chance for sure IF that's happens.

Mercedes never had Newey in their corner but they found ways to win.
Now that's where it stops really, Newey is a god. Having him in your corner means 150% your aero is better than the rest of the field or at worst on par. If you have an inferior engine dept/supplier, you will still struggle.
But make no mistakes and do not get it twisted, NEWEY is a badass MFer.
If he didn't think he wanted to go to merc because it would take to long to fix. Why would he go to Williams who is even further back on the grid. He is clearly still thinking about winning and winning asap.
It seems strange to me that Adrian Newley’s announcement came out on the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna passing driving a Williams that Adrian designed…..
Just maybe he feels his last performance in F1 should be with Williams and hopefully get them back to the front as a mark of respect to Sir Frank Williams and the memory of the greatest driver Ayrton Senna De Silva.

The idea that he will be integral after an engine regulation change is pretty laughable if Red Bull drop down the order after 26 it will be because of bad engine development something Newey would be able to do nothing to remedy much like 2014 and if he were to succeed at Ferrari it would be on the back of good engine development not just aero. All the people pointing out how Red Bull struggled with the last engine reg change seem to have forgotten that Ferrari struggled just as much and Newey was a non-factor for most of the hybrid era because of the Mercedes engine advantage. After all it was the great Enzo Ferrari who said "aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines".

Commercially RB have to down play this exit of Newey that's was always gonna be done unfortunately because they are not rated on their own merit rather that people involved in the operation and I disagree with it. What Newey has done for RB and the sport in general they should have some backbone and give the man his flowers. Just shows you what type of scum bags Newey is getting away from really.
They were probably sick of him getting every bit of credit from people who have been claiming he's the only reason they've won for the past 14 years. even without the special clearance Antonelli would be 18 and naturally have a superlicence before MONZA so he would still get his Debut in Italy. AUDI could also be an option for Newey if it comes with everything else the VolkswagenAudi Group Brings (Bently/Porsche/Lambourghini and even Ducati (motoGP)

Adrian Newey along with the right team (techs and mechanics) to actualize his designs, will make an awesome car. If he comes to Ferrari, along with their techs, and perhaps others coming along with him with the drivers Charles and Lewis; would be good for the team, and hopefully resurrect Ferrari back to it's glory days once again. I've always said Ferrari's got next... and I believe it wholeheartedly

It's hard to see who is the best driver on the grid, when they are all driving different cars. We can only say which team produced the fastest car each year. Mercedes for 8 years and now it's RedBull. Maybe Hulkenberg is the goat, we will never know.

Newey laid the foundation so basically RB feel they don’t need him since they have all the intellectual ground effect plans for the car. When Newey goes to Ferrari though he will build his best car yet.
New regs are gonna be more engine dependent and Newey was a non-factor in the early hybrid era because Red Bull had a terrible engine. Old man Ferrari did say "aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines" and his team might prove it

Newey is brilliant but is not getting any younger, so large companies do make tough decision early and try to move on with new and younger talent/s. Judging by the structure of engineers currently, Newey was pushed by RB/Horner. If they valued him more, they would have given him a bigger role. They only want him to finish their RB car and move on from there/then. Other teams of course are a bit desperate and will jump at the opportunity to have him on board. But honestly not a train smash for RB.

Prediction: (although it's so obvious it might not count): Red Bull will begin to fall off in late 2025/2026, once the shock of Newey leaving is really felt, but by then they will have had enough time to make up an excuse for the drop-off in performance. Surely, Horner will say, their performance drop isn't the result of his scandal or his power grab and all the tension he created - surely it isn't bc of all the braindrain he facilitated, surely it's not the exit of their lead designer with 25 titles under his belt across 3 teams... Can't wait to hear his excuse 🙄

I guess we have to leave it to Ferrari to prove Newey is not quite as great as we all think. I could imagine that working under Newey could be a bit suffocating. Anyways, all of these incredible moves that Ferrari are making makes me think that they will be building the most explosive bomb of a team and car that immediately blows up in their faces. I want to see them win, but I keep feeling like they are building a Titanic ship of a team that is unbeatable, but no one realizes that Maranello is a cursed iceberg that somehow froze over in hell long ago and can sink any team.
Hope it goes well for Hamilton and he does well at Ferrari because if the Ferrari fans are anything like the Italian football fans there is going to be an issue if he doesn't perform.
