  • LECCE - A homage to one of the most renowned Italian Pianist, composer and Music Mentor, Gennaro Sannino. Former president of the Tito Schipa Conservatory in Lecce, Sannino was originally from Naples but deeply rooted in Salento, where he moved as a young Piano Professor at the local conservatoire. After diverse musical experiences in Rome and New York, Sannino chose to settle in Salento, nurturing generations of musicians before passing away in 2008 at the age of 99.
A remarkable concert was presented in his home in Lecce, Villa Sannino-Romoli, by operatic bass Massimo Modoni and his patner, Irish pianist Brian Hughes. The concert was deep and moving homage, featuring the great italian operatic bass repertoire and the duo's rendition of an unpublished piece composed by Sannino in 1929.
In this musical tribute, Brian Hughes and Massimo Modoni, both boasting illustrious artistic careers, drew inspiration from Francesco Navarini's legacy, presenting the grand classics of Italian Opera for the voice of Bass: from Verdi to Mascagni, from Puccini to Donizetti, in a splendid display of evocative melodies and deep emotions.
    Giorgia Durante, Telerama
