I have starlink, and it's better than any other provider in my area. I live in the country, we only have satellite internet, other satellite providers were rubbish. starlink is second to none!

From the beginning, Elon wanted to make things to improve the human existence. And he wanted the best quality that he could make. He makes money as a result of that hard work and dedication which allows him to be able to continue to provide these products. The innovation and quality is what people pay for. The haters are envious and jealous of his success and don't know or care about the effort he has to put into each of these areas. Tesla is an effort to save the planet by reducing greenhouse gases. SpaceX is an effort to ensure the continuation of the human race. Neuralink is to improve damaged and/or limited people's lives. The same can be said for Boring, Tesla Walls, Tesla Roof shingles and even buying Twitter. Elon is a brilliant altruistic man and will be remembered as a great historical figure.

Not everyone needs to like Elon Musk. They do need to recognize the many amazing world changing things he is doing! Personally I think he’s a sold humanitarian and the most truly honest billionaires in the world. Most of them hide and don’t say or do anything someone may take the wrong way. lol
Elon is a snake oil salesman who has survived due to grants. Hasn’t invented anything. Promises products that haven’t been developed.

Thank You Elon Musk for a great product. Starlink is a fantastic service to us folks that live in rural areas. I am one of those that has no choice but to use satellite for delivery of internet service. Trust me when I say I have tried brand x of the satellite service and to put it mildly the service was terrible. I live in an area where cell service is at best very spotty and weak to no signal, and have no access to fiber. The man and his company provides a damn good service at a reasonable price. For him to now want to offer the emergency service to everyone is fantastic. Our government has squandered billions of our tax dollars in their so called efforts to provide high speed internet to people in rural areas. All they have done is waste the money on these companies that provide service to a few folks in a small area at a big price. Just another government payoff for political favors. I hope Mr. Musk continues on. I wish him great success in his endeavors now and in the future.

Oh, where do I even start. Under the new SCS rules SpaceX is Required to provide 911 services regardless of provider. The other issue is Starlink Sat's (around 125 of them) have not been approved by the FCC for consumer use. These Sats are different than the thousands of broadband Starlink Sats.
Yes, and I'm pretty sure that universal 911 service would be one of the conditions of FCC approval, and likewise in the UK, universal 999 service would be one of the conditions of OFCOM approval.
That isn’t what he’s giving free. This is talking about in the wilds. Ie rescue incidents not ringing the police for normal contacts.

Elon is, surprisingly, a human being. One who has his set of values. Most follow first principles and makes perfect sense, others follow ideals and are compromises or be flawed. The most important thing is that his values are always transparent and his actions follow those values. He wanted to fight climate change, extend human presence in space, improve transportation, fight AI risk, battle for free speech, and the list goes on. These reasons had been transparent, and not hard to understand. It's sad that people must spin these goals for some ulterior motives. You can accuse mother Theresa for seeking fame as the reason for helping countless others, but assumptions don't make you right. As he said to a reporter once: "I could be off at the Bahamas sipping a margarita, but instead I'm here talking to you". He didn't choose to collect the biggest yachts and build up some billion dollar art collection, instead, somehow his projects all have a major positive impact in society. Do we really care what HE get out of it when what WE get out of him is so much more?

The long term purpose of starlink was always going to be to reduce telecom cost to zero. It reaches this when the advertising pays for the cost. Zero cost to user. It also will be replicated in mars orbit and contain a duplicate version of the internet there as well as facilitating interplanetary communication.

You see Elon quickly realizes that Starlink is in a somewhat unique situation in RURAL America and other countries(with LOTS of rural spaces) He realizes that emergencies can occur anywhere. The reality is that the US Federal Government (and most likely other governments) REGULARLY subsidize large communications companies with broadcasting type capabilities to offer these emergency comms services because the Govt realizes that it would cost them 10X the cost of these subsidies to create their own broadcast just to communicate about the emergencies to the masses. Elons' attorneys and marketing people are aware of these available subsidies and just like the TV, Radio, Internet Providers, and other mass market broadcast capable comms companies, Starlink, now that it has a about 3 million subscribers worldwide(including several small international scientist groups conducting important research on location in remote places, Starlink can now begin to appeal to Governments worldwide as an "international broadcaster" capable of emergencies comunication to "remotely located important scientists, soldiers, spies,(sorry my inside voice!). But trust me, this emergency communication service may be "free" to the end users with Starlink user accounts, but it is most certainly NOT for free! (It's just a matter of WHO signs the check!!!) Joe, only air is free (for NOW!)

Keeps me thinking...starlink will be available in the Philippines not later than Nov. Some foreigners are buying the tools from the States now. At a glance semms good. Access to the internet will be faster and for the remote areas where its access is quite impossible that is really good news. But what about the struggling companies that provide such limited access, what will happen to them? Besides 'espionage' is not a far reality wherein there will no longer be any privacy. Perhaps these are only personal fears & no foundation at all. But there something really fishy going on.

While I'm NOT an EV fan, I am definitely a Starlink & space fan. (I have installed a couple of Starlinks for people & would love to have a mobile service but it's just way too expencive!) One of my hobbies is GNSS surveying & mapping, plus another hobby of using satellite data like weather maps etc (I actually have the only satellite tracking station in our state, down load data packets & share them world wide for anyone who wishes to us the info) Anyway, it's all very interesting stuff for this old school "old fart" I love learning new tech & admire what Elon is doing, in fact, he's doing (not talking) the impossible!! 👍 (he always reminds me of our son when he speaks. It's Father's Day & our son lives in a different country so that is my thoughts for today!!) I'd love to know I have emergency phone coverage when I travel remotely here in Australia (yes, I know, if I had Starlink, I could use Wifi calling, as mentioned, it's the current HUGE cost !!) I still have mixed feelings about this "emergency service" free of charge for people in distress.Whst exsctly meanns " people in distress",you still have to give a more specific definition to the meaning " being in distress".The whole world is on distress.And it is going to get more distressfull.Depending on how you use it ,it can be good or evil.For ex:the emergency alarm system,your phone rings describing a child was abducted,vehicle described,in Tampa,I'm in Miami.Do I care? after all in most of the child abductions cases one of the parents is involved.Disfunctional families.Depression is affecting a lot of young people watching friends posting on Facebook vacations to diferent places.Do I need to know or see more suffering? from all around the world?More stress=shorter lifespan.No,thank you.

3 yrs ago I bought a new 1+ branded phone that had built in GPS messaging capability. Found out by accident when trying to respond to earlier received message. Screen pop-up stated No cell service, but offered GPS short messaging connect. It worked. Later US based Android update permanently blocked using GPS services without active data connection.
We both know, "distress" is a frame of mind. Maybe Elon meant "in emergencies" which has a very different meaning.

Technically Speaking there are Still countries that are NOT given coverage.. tho the Sats pass over the country twice per day..Global services don't come cheap.. even if its free the govts don't allow something they themselves can Control.. and Narrate.. and eventually TAX heavy on the common people for using the said service.
Paid the initial 2 years fee to be kept on the list to get a Sat connection since Gen-1 Antenna and router.. and its still not available in my REGION... thats like saying.. you will get the magic of FIRE.. for heating and light.. but not today...just pay up today.. and you might be given that... and this is my $$$.. not everyone else. its a good Hype tho.. to mass the crowd for more sales.

Its "free" to already paying cellular customers? Or its paid for by contracts with cellular partners/providers? Probably subsidized by some government "emergency service initiative". Someone is paying for this and its probably our tax dollars. Its fantastic don't get me wrong, but its certainly not "free" because "elon says so". He's certainly getting paid for this.

I am in Australia and have 2 other Citizenships , and calling Emergency Services in these countries are free in any case. One passport is from the same country he is from, South Africa. Forgot to mention you can call Emergency services WITHOUT a Sim Card.

Mobile phone provider One NZ is going to partner with Starlink from ‘later this year’ initially to send and receive SMS via satellite. As 40% of the country has no cellphone coverage this is great news. Boaters close to shore will also be able to communicate by SMS.
