I like your focus on getting the proper lines of the pilot house to be in tune with the lines of the boat. I’ve seen lots of ugly add-ones to boats. Your approach is spot on. Keep up the good work!!!
I hear you David! Many of the projects in the Boat Werks are applicable from power to sailboat and back again. Don’t seek yourself short by only focusing on the bit you like. The building skills and experience in the Boat Werks is what makes the channel special. Trust me 😎
Joe, Lowes carries a pvc 4x8 sheet 3/8 thick .Made a shade cover for my 20 ft electric launch.Great material to work with. Just back from Friesland 7 days not a cloud.Excellent
This is exactly what i plan to do on my Mayland Minstrell. Looks exactly like this but a tiny bit smaller. Also has this traditional look. So glad I came across this.
@@motorcityboatwerks will you raise it when it’s still on the trailer hooked to the truck. I used to have a Hobie 16 and some people liked to put them on the trailer backwards so it was facing down hill on the beach to help raise the mast. I never did it that way because if you dropped the mast , which I have done a couple of times, it would land on your vehicle. Yikes!!
Great video and I just subscribed and look forward to viewing your prior vids. Question .. how and when does the height of the boom come into play when designing the pilothouse? While I'm a sailor (Catalina 30, Sunfish, and others), I've always been in love with the lines of a C-Dory 16 and thought of converting a suitable sailboat into a small powerboat (sans mast)
I find the hard chines of the West Wight Potter to not be very traditional and the lack of a keel means the boat interior is very shallow so I don’t think a pilothouse really helps the boat or looks good. 😌 But this is a matter of personal taste.
@@motorcityboatwerks I think it's a great idea. I was searching You Tube last night for ideas. I'm thinking of doing it to my 1977 International 23 ft. Sailboat. I really got a kick out of the humor to add to your videos. Facial expressions and more... 😆 Great Job !!
Are any of the comments below from naval architects or even artists who know a thing or two about aesthetics never mind the technical aspects of boat design?
Yes all of the good comments🤣 I don’t need a naval architect or artist to tell me what looks good works well. 😂 Do you only listen to music approved by music majors or orchestra conductors?

Welcome aboard Anthony 👍😁
Looks great and truly appreciate your efforts in design and execution!
Thank you very much!
I like the look. Prefer hardtops to get out of the weather.
Exactly 👍

Hey MCB that will look great !
😁😁👍
well done.... thanks
😎
I have an old Terrapin 24 that I was thinking of doing a pilothouse addition, so thanks for this video! I look forward to more!
Excellent !
Great episode. How will you step and unstep the mast? I’m assuming it was originally designed to raise and lower the mast from the stern.
The mast can be stepped from the bow similar to a Compac 16

I’ve don’t it both ways. 🤣
Another great episode -- keep up the good work...
Thanks, will do!

I get this question a lot. Great question. I will be sure to explain in the second pilothouse design video
nice job
👍😁
That’s a cool looking hard dodger!
Thank you sir! I appreciate the feedback😁👍Always great to hear from you
Oddly, I have the same CAD software.
It works well doesn’t it 😉
What are your thoughts on a pilot house on a west wight potter 19? Wouldn't want to end up with UBS 😅
I find the hard chines of the West Wight Potter to not be very traditional and the lack of a keel means the boat interior is very shallow so I don’t think a pilothouse really helps the boat or looks good. 😌 But this is a matter of personal taste.
How to raise the mast with the pilot house, in reverse from the bow?
Yes always raise mast from the bow aft 👍😁
You devil! I was seriously eye balling her when she was for sale. Great snag.
I’ve had several people tell me that 😉
Ya where's the cute pet?
That’s why we have an octopus 🐙
If you're using a tiller extension.... Isn't this hard dodger?
🐙Hard dodger vs. pilothouse has nothing to do with tiller extension. 😂🤣
UBS.... 😂😂😂😅
👍😁
