    'P' stands for 'Portable' not pancake. I P/X'd GFX50s for this exact thing and it is utterly joyous - far better then the GF stuff which is overly complicated, far too heavy and every time I picked it up I hit a 'button' which did something I didn't want or understand - and yes I know you can switch them out - also the issue doubles up with the grip. Do I miss the flip out viewfinder. No. Do I miss the tilting viewfinder? No. Do I miss the 'fujifilm film emulations'? No. This thing is beyond exceptional. Flash sync at all speeds outside for my portraiture work - bang on. Pricey lenses? You bet. So I stick with one. And it is exceptional. Phocus software. Works fine. seamless matching with my Broncolor Move 1200L's? Of course. You never regret paying for quality.

      Fuji GFX 50R is a completely different (and very nice) camera, bigger, with a curtain shutter with low flash sync speed (1/125s)...
      The X1D is more compact, has a leaf shutter with up to 1/2000s flash sync, this shutter is vibration free so the camera doesn't need stabilisation in low light, is part of a fully Hasselblad integrated system, with H System macro and tilt-shift compatibility, X907x digital back compatibility with all V System vintage film cameras, etc...

    I’m a big fan of squarer sensors, ideally they’d be circles but that’s a waste of silicon. At the moment I want someone to make a full frame camera with the same width as normal FF, but a bit taller, for a 3:4 aspect ratio, it would be better for portrait and square aspect ratios which are more and more important these days. There would be a bit more vignetting but I don’t care. You could still use all the existing FF glass.

    The Hasselblad on the Apollo missions were quipped with Minolta lenses..

    • @Kim_Miller
      @Kim_Miller 4 года назад +2

      Don't know where the Minolta idea came from. I have a moon landing slide set from 1969 put out by Zeiss, saying it was their lenses. And Hasselblad also says Zeiss. www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/a11-hass.html

    • @jean-claudemuller3199
      @jean-claudemuller3199 4 года назад

      The only Minolta part ever on Hasselblad cameras is the Acute Matte viewfinder screen on late Hasselblad V System cameras, but these screens came way after Apollo missions.
      All V system lenses comme from Zeiss or Schneider for the zoom.
      Hasselblad cameras used on the moon were quite different of cameras used in the spaceship.
      Moon cameras were not SLR's (no mirror and viewfinder) and had a special fixed lens Zeiss Biogon 60mm that was not available for the SLR version.

    • @paulsehstedt6275
      @paulsehstedt6275 4 года назад

      My first input was based on long time ago infos from a Hasselblad dealer, but according to Nasa's webside, there was a Minolta build camera with the first mission: # When John Glenn became the first American in orbit, bringing a camera was an afterthought. An Ansco Autoset 35mm camera, manufactured by Minolta, was purchased in a local drug store and hastily modified so the astronaut could use it more easily while in his pressure suit. At the time, everything that John Glenn did was deemed an experiment. At the beginning of the program, no one knew for certain whether weightlessness would prevent a man from seeing, or from breathing, or from eating and swallowing. Photography was deemed nothing more than a recreational extra. #

    • @jean-claudemuller3199
      @jean-claudemuller3199 4 года назад

      The European photo brand that worked a lot with Minolta was Leica. Leica R3 and R4 were built with a Minolta SLR chassis, all Leica R zooms and the fisheye were Minolta Rokkors, Minolta CLE camera was an evolution of the Leica CL.

  • @johnnyszumlanski6882

    You startet out very good with saying that this is not medium format. I’m sure that this, Fujifilm GFX and other systems have great images quality but something is wrong in the industry. From start people wanted to use the measuring from the old film camera and use it to digital camera sensors. That means that full frame are 24x36. If I came and said that my Fujifilm XPro2 is af full frame camera, somebody will laugh and more people will think I’m crazy. But today the photo industry can without anything just put out camera that have bigger than full frame sensor and call all Medium format. Why do all your influencers just let them do that. Medium format starts at 6x4.5 . I even think to remember one off Fujifilm first press meeting about the first GFX. They called it at SuperFull Frame, and that’s what it is. So when a digital camera will have a 6x4.5 sensor will it then be called a full frame medium format camera ? That’s so ridiculous. Go in to the fight please. And thanks for your video 🙏

    • @HughNeutron
      @HughNeutron 4 года назад +2

      The problem with "SuperFull Frame" is that at some point, people decided that "super" should mean "smaller than" (super 35 vs 35mm, super 16 vs 16mm, etc), so then you'd get people who assume "Super Full Frame" is smaller than full frame.

      @mjmdiver1137 4 года назад

      @@johnnyszumlanski6882 But clearly, you don't have the historical background for what people were calling medium format. For the past 80 years or so, MF was actually applied to anything roll-film that was larger than 35mm and smaller than sheet film but even within this, there is some flexibility.
      There is 5" rollfilm (aero), and that wasn't considered MF. There is also 2-1/4x3-1/4 sheet film, and that generally wasn't considered MF either.
      Basically, stop being so pedantic.

    • @YanKuzik
      @YanKuzik 4 года назад

      @@mjmdiver1137 but it is really funny how 44x33 become MEDIUM FORMAT when in true photography even 645 is just semi-format, true MF is 6x7.
      But it's all not about naming, it's about stupidity of consumers nowadays. Just point a finger, say it loud and people will buy it.

    • @mjmdiver1137
      @mjmdiver1137 4 года назад

      @@YanKuzik Not true at all. MF was any roll film larger than 35mm. 645 qualified. 6x7 qualifies. There were many other formats in the past, but they basically all fell away in favor of the 120/220 film rolls since about the late 1960's.

    How many photographers are really going to miss out on a gig if they're not shooting with medium format though? The majority of photogigs these days are for folks to chuck the pics up on their instagram, not on billboards. Although, who doesnt love cool new tech.

    Yeah I'm too poor for that, for medium format I still shoot film on either my Mamiya RB67 Pro SD or Pentax 67. I enjoy shooting and working with developing film negatives so the extra process doesn't bother me. That and I don't make anywhere near enough money outside of my hobby stuff to justify more than a basic dslr or mirrorless (I have a Pentax Q7 for a pocket camera and a Olympus M10 mkii for the IBIS, between the two I mostly adapt all vintage glass).

    Oh, so 44x33 is medium format now? For everyone who forget - the smallest MF (semi-format) 645 is ~56x42 and calling dis "little bigger than FF" camera medium format kinda strange.

    That lens is basically the medium format version of Canon's 24mm f2.8 pancake, except it costs $1,000 more.

    The only reason to get this instead of some Fujifilm medium format camera is if you intend to do a lot of outdoor flash due to the leaf shutter. If you can afford to spend a little bit more go for Fujifilm GFX 100S, which will give you a full 16 bit RAW, Good autofocus speed and IBIS. Fujifilm also works with Capture One Pro that is a lot more pleasant to use than the Hasselblad phocus. Well, I give Hasselblad that they have a very good user interface design, but that's it
