When I work with “slippery” fabric, I dip starch the yardage in a 1:1 starch to water mixture, then lay out or carefully hang (so the grain line doesn’t shift) to dry. The fabric behaves like a much more stable fabric during construction, then returns to it’s original drape when washed. I’ve gotten very nice results with this method.
I’ve always wanted to try this, but haven’t had the space-maybe if it’s warm enough while we’re here I’ll hang some on the deck……..
And I like the starch mixture. All the sprays I’ve seen have so many strange ingredients 😶
I'm pretty sure you're magic. I don't know how, but I'm convinced. You're so inspiring.
The hair proves it.
🤗🤗🤗well what a lovely team effort to make me blush! Thank you both!
I would love to see more of your upcycled garment making or reusing fabric from a botched project. Or recreating designer garments. Also making pants and shorts. I'm scared of making pants, I got no booty and I think that's harder to fit then when you have one! LOL, love love you!
hahaha I feel you on the booty! Burdastyle has a pretty good block for those of us blessed with a derrière 😉and I’m noting those ideas!
Best background music for the out-tro. Good choice.
Good innit? I love Track Tribes’s stuff 💗
That cat is beautiful!!! I love my kitties. Have a great day!!!
Ooooh, you're in the loft. I always wanted a treehouse, you lucky Human. Now you have a sewing tree-house with a welcoming fluffy overlord. Who can Climb Ladders?!! Most excellent.
You're reminding me that my sewing machine has been looking at me with puppy eyes. I've been on a sewing break, briefly interrupted by the Occupation of Ottawa. I fell into a leatherworking-shaped rabbit-hole over the Holidays. I have some old vintage tools from the ebay and I'm having way too much fun making the most complicated, overbuilt tool-rolls I can dream up. Because what else do you do in the early dawn of war. Seriously, like, February was a Month around here, but, like, what the actual...
Speaking of which. It turns out one of the brilliant YT'ers I've been learning from is now defending his home on the east boarder of Ukraine. His family are making their way west. So far. So good. Dear God.
*_Tissoleather leathercraft workshop_*
I suggested he set up a *Patreon* account and a *Ko-fi* account so his family can be helped by subscriptions and cash donations. It's the only thing I can think of that's halfway practical. In the meantime I've been watching his back catalogue of videos and leaving encouraging words in the comments, because, I dunno, algorithms?
Take care, you Two.

good lord, the world needs a sewing vacay, I doesn’t it? Or some sort of vacation. A little break before complete apocalypse. I hope you can get some creative time in with your favorite puppy…..
@@thehandmadeharriells The world needs a vacay. And not a staycay, it's been done and Covid doesn't count, a proper vacation. Stupid hats, accidental food poisoning and getting lost on purpose in a city I've never seen before. The whole she-bang.
Although, I think I'd settle for a 5 min break at this point. OK. I'd settle for Sting's 'Russians' not running in the background noise of my head... Big ol' Gen X 'what the actual' on that one.
As it is, the tool rolls for the leather tools progress. I'm making them as pur-dy as I can. Then I return to the sewing machine... whose giving me puppy eyes and wagging its' tail...
Twill tape, the hidden super hero.
If we got a Marvel movie for sewists, Twill Tape would be a real standup guy 🤣
I just found you and in six short minutes you inspired me AND you made my day. I'll see you again soon!
🤗🤗🤗that’s lovely to hear!
Oh, what fun to organize a sewing space. Love windows!! And it comes with a cat...so nice 😉 do you need to go up /down that ladder to get there? 😱
The cat is definitely a bonus!
Yes, we both travel that ladder! It’s a whimsical way to begin (and it’s been interesting carting sewing supplies up it 🤣)
I just came home from NY. The city inspired me to create more. Love that city, good to be home, and best to be making!!! Thanks for your inspiration and positive energy.
Ohhhhh where did you go? I hope you found some beautiful things!
Ohhhh I can't wait to see the garment. Thank you for sharing.
awww love the kitty cat
Here for the Sewing drama!!
It may have been short but it was fun and great to see you on RUclips again.
😁Thankya Angela! I had more rambling that I decided to save for a studio show n tell. Tbh I always have more rambling 😅
Thx for the good vibes!
Your hair is always amazing!
Can't wait! Love seeing your cat! Very cute 😍
Oh so looking forward to this, im ready to do it! Thanks for letting us know. Rambo is looking nice and fluffy! 😻😻
I‘m one of those so looking forward to this!!
I LOVE the pink sewing room!!!😍
Thankya! It’s like sunrise/sunset all the time in here 🌞
I just found you today and I'm in love. Your personality is sunshine 🌞
🤗🌞thank you!!
And Thankyou for the bonus tutorial for my cat on how to receive pets and such. I'm trying to get it to turn into a cuddlemonster.
It took some coaxing, lemme tell ya 🤣
Love a pinkish hue!
I remember you saying you were a blue guy…..and then seeing you in nothing but pink! The color likes you 💗
I love your cat! I love that you're getting a great sewing space! I love your positivity! I love your hair! I love you and your Rob (he's so much like my son-in-law they could be brothers from different mothers...LOL) I look forward to your videos as they always brighten my day... thank you! 😊
Well thank YOU! You’ve brightened our day! 🤗
Ya gotta make something for the kitty!! Something fancy!!
But not clothes! 🙂
HAHAHA maybe I’ll make him a bow tie 🤣🤣🤣
A tie would be puuuurfect! 😄
Yay!!!!!
I will be here for the sewing drama!
Pink is my fav color & though I wouldn't be confident enough to paint a whole room that color, I'm lovin' it for you!
Stay blessed!
😁Rob’s in for it, now that I have a technicolor room again, our white NY walls are in danger…..
@@thehandmadeharriells I have a pink "zoom room" and a peach "bling salon"... obviously I live alone.....
You haven't sewn anything in 6 weeks???? WHAT!!! I'm going to have to purchase me some pearls just to have something to clutch. 🤣 Always looking forward to your amazing and inspiring videos.
HAHAHAHAAAA buy a long strand because it might be more like two months!!!! 💗💗
Love, 😍
Good to see you back. Do you do any easy DVF wrap dresses ?
Thanks Cindy!
I’ve tried a few wrap dresses and have yet to find one that slays the way a DVF does. You know, she had a pattern with McCalls but it went out of license! I hear Cashmerette’s wrap dress is pretty awesome.
I have that pattern!
Hell or highwater cracked me up.
Yes to sewing drama… I’m trying to find some fabric so I can sew along!
This one does eat a lot of yardage-I was eyeing a pretty printed sheet set at Target the other day 🤣
I love that burnout fabric. I have this blue and silver chiffon fabric. The question is do I have enough… we will see!!
Oooooo that sounds lovely! You could always do a shorter version 😉
@@thehandmadeharriells oooooooh! Now what sounds like an awesome idea!
Pretty kitty Rambo!! (Where’s Rob?!👋🏼) I am currently lining up summer tops and dresses, hopefully before our hot and humid summer arrives! Btw, I voted for the burnout- I think I saw the video when you bought it!!✌🏼❤️😘
Ah yes, I think this one was from my beloved Janky sto!
Rob is in a timeout for that stunt he pulled last episode 🤣. He’s gonna need to show up with a double martini!
Oh, it's happening! I still don't have the pattern and don't plan on getting it anytime soon because I have too many other things I need to finish and work on - but I think I'll still learn something (and I may have a similar one somewhere in my archive of Burda magazines for later).
Rambo IS fluffy. Viisi in winter levels of fluffy, but Viisi (the oldest cat at father's) is black. :-)
Oh the Burda Mag archive, I swear you can find any pattern ever made in those pages!
Your tiny panther sounds dashing. It’s our hope to have one fluffy black cat, and one fluffy orange. We miss having cats!
@@thehandmadeharriells I also miss having cats. Or just meeting cats amenable to cuddles. :-( We're currently in a no-pets flat and the neighbourhood cats tend to turn tail when they see me.
It would not have occurred to me to call Viisi dashing, but I suppose she is and it runs in the family. :-) If I'm not mistaken, she's granddaughter to my beloved Bisha who was elegance incarnated (I know, I'm biased, but still). And sat on my Burda magazines when I wanted to sew. :D
@@thehandmadeharriells P.S. And I wholeheartedly support the having of black cats. I was rather surprised some years ago to find out they're unpopular with some people and get left behind in shelters... Pffft. Most of ours have been black, it's almost family tradition by now. :D
@beth12svist Oh, how I miss my old Kiddle; he was black, fluffy, the badass of the neighborhood, and 21 years old when he died.
Natural light! That pink is gorgeous, do you have two different pinks or is it just the awesome light/shadow effects? So good to see your sweet face. Thanks for the update.
It’s two different coral shade! Darker in the walls, lighter on the trim. I had the ceiling in an even lighter shade of coral and that turned out to be a little too much!
👏👏👏
Hi .....I haven't watched the video yet but I'm going to like it anyways and say you're awesome!!! It's inevitable. ❤️
🤣I’LL TAKE IT!
Love the poly burnout. Where did you get it?
I got it at one of my favorite NY fabric stores, you can see it in this sewing spree video: ruclips.net/video/9c-hTzxUEgM/видео.html 💗
Oh my god, a fluffy ginger CROSSEYED (😻😍) cat!!!!!!!!!
His eyes crack me up 🤣
You always make me smile. You said your new studio is down south, south of the city or south like Georgia?
For real down south! So, it’s a bit of a hike 😂
@@thehandmadeharriells it can't be too far South, I remember a video of Rob shoveling real snow...we here in Richmond haven't seen that amount all winter, much to this Northern Girl's disappointment. 😑☺️
Awesome, looking forward to watch you make that. But aren't you supposed to escape south for the winter and stay up north in the summer? LoL.
Considering we’ve had two snow storms and an ice storm, I think all bets are off 🙃🥶!
@@thehandmadeharriells oh man. Crazy times.
can't wait to sew along with the vogue dress.......which pattern pieces can I cut out beforehand?
Let me check the envelope- I think we’re doing everything except the belt and facings!
It’s pieces 1,2,3 and 4 💗
Oh, Rambo!!! 💟💟💟☮️
I'm here for you Marcy. I just made this pattern in Ankara, but I can get with the floaty fabric in a minute. See you next week!
I love this in Ankara! I have yet to make a maxi Ankara version, I need to fix that stat. See you next week 💗
What does a sewasaurus rex eat? Thread, pins, a random needle just because it’s not a good idea but neither is dating a bad boy, and a discontinued Burda pattern in a too-small size. I could be wrong.
You have SUCH a way with words-the whole bad idea bit………nailed it.
I've been holding onto this beautiful light knit (I guess it's considered a jersey knit?) for a couple a years now because I'm terrified to sew it since my machine likes to munch on lightweight fabrics. 🤬 I know knits aren't your jam, but do you happen to know of any knit sewing resources you could share with me? I was thinking this fabric of which I spoke of would be perfectly drapey for this Vogue pattern, but I've heard and read that you can't use patterns interchangeably and expect good results. (Again, 🤬)
Love, love, love you and Rob! Have a great week, and good luck with the redesigning!
You can usually use knits for a woven pattern, but you have to size down often. For a flowy robe you would want a knit with a lot of drape, like a rayon jersey. You cannot use wovens on a knit pattern because of the negative ease built in. The Love Notions channel has lots of good content for knits because most of their patterns are for knits. I think Ellie and Mac may have a channel - another indie pattern designer that focuses on knits.
🤗thank you Jen! Rob says howdy 👩🏽🤝👨🏼
I actually sewed mostly in knits when I started out! Mainly because they were a dollar a yard at a magical little joint in LA. I’ve actually interchanged knit and woven patterns-you just have to be a little judicious about what you’re swapping. Knit patterns, as @coachcasey said (Thankya coach!) have negative ease, so if I’m making a woven pattern but using a knit, I look at the finished measurements of the pattern, and choose the size that’s two inches smaller than my digits. The knit will stretch to accommodate. (I’ve even gone for a knit pattern with a woven fabric, but that’s a lot more ‘splainin 😅)
If you wanted to use a knit here….you won’t know until you try! If you made it as a dress, the wide neckline of this pattern and the stretch of your fabric would probably mean you could forgo a zipper. As an open robe, you might want to add a couple ties at center waist.
I'm curious... did the re-print of this pattern change anything? I know the darts/pleats where a tad confusing in the instructions and the bodice grading error on the larger sizes in the original annoyed the heck out of me (I adore my finished garment though!)
Hey girl! So…I laid both patterns out on top of each other, and everything’s exactly the same. I’m working from the s-m-l envelope. The instructions are the same as well!
@@thehandmadeharriells Thank you!!!! I was working from the larger envelope so perhaps the grading issue was in that set only.
💖🐕🌸🌼🐱
OMG I think I love Rambo more then Rob!! LOL
Hahahahahaaa how dare you 🤣🤣🤣
Does twill tape come in different widths? Is that 1/2 inch?
Yes, it does! I like 1/4 inch twill tape. For this treatment I wouldn’t go wider than 3/8 inch, because it’s going to curve around the neckline.
I wish I had access to that pattern so I could sew it up at the same time. The website says patterns may take until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea (I’m paraphrasing but you get the idea.) Needless to say, I am bummed. Me and my sad self will still be watching though.
Can’t you get the pattern at Joann’s?
@@MimiMakesStuff no. I tried. Lol.
Wow they were out of both copies?! That IS a bummer. So, I’ve never tried this-but I think McCalls sells digital versions of patterns online now. Not sure if this Vogue is included but you might try!
@@thehandmadeharriells I ordered a different one with kimono sleeves (V1627). It looked similar. I would welcome your thoughts on whether you think I could use it as a sub for the non-sleeve part of the construction. Also, vogue doesn’t sell their patterns in pdf format. I tried all the ways. Lol. I am resigned to being a spectator unless I can find a Joann’s that has a copy.
Hey Marcie!!! I love your videos and can't wait to see your new Vogue dress pattern. I was shopping online at Mood's Fabrics and discovered this 70's themed patch...It reminds me of your beautiful curly hair! Check it out: French Green Floral Destiny Cotton Blend Oversized Square Patch - 18.875". Have a fantastic day and Happy Sewing!!!
Oh wow that’s beautiful! That would be magnificent on the back of a jeans jacket.
RAMBO LOOKS LIKE ROB.
Jessie, would you believe you are not the first person to say that?!!!! We’ve been told it’s something about the eyes…..
Your fans in New Orleans are thrilled for to see you in a big Southern space!
Hey New Orleans! I’ve never been to your city, I need to correct that!
@@thehandmadeharriells you do! We have a very cool nycesque fabric shop and your picture is in the wax print section:)
Do you have a house in Texas?
No, we’re north of Texas 😁 but a house in the south is the goal!
Please explain meaning of phrase “too much pink.” Whaaaat?!? 😳
What state are you in now? Geographically, I mean. Not asking for your address or anything creepy. 🙄 I’m in Los Angeles, so I won’t be dropping by or anything. (Darn it!)
Hahaha! Never too much pink!
We’re in AR , but we also make it to LA occasionally…who knows where you’ll find us 🙃
