  • Henri, King of Navarre was born 1553, the son of Antoine de Bourbon and Jeanne d'Albret. He was a blood as a descendant of Saint-Louis. Baptized under the Catholic religion, he followed a Calvinist education by his mother, and converted to the Reformation. In 1572, in order to reconcile Catholics and Protestants, he married Marguerite de Valois. His gesture fails, and the wedding festivities lead to the massacre of the Protestants (Saint-Barthélemy). In 1584, he became the heir to the throne of France on the death of the Duke of Alençon. He was the leader of the Protestant party during the eighth religious war and approaches Henri III in order to thwart the Catholic League of the Duke of Guise. After the assassination of Henri III, he was the first king of France of the Bourbon dynasty. He converted to Catholicism ("Paris is worth a mass") and was consecrated in Chartres before entering Paris. Having become king, he signed the Edict of Nantes (1598), recognizing the Protestant beliefs and restoring the economy of the kingdom with the help of his minister Sully. While preparing for a war against Spain, he was assassinated on May 14, 1610 by Ravaillac.

Back in the day, a sinner was encouraged by the Roman Catholic Church to be able to get your sins absolved by paying the church for an"indulgence".
    It was based on a sliding scale... Murder, rape, thefts and all other sins could be forgiven for money 💰... Upon payment, the sinner would be given a document of absolution sealed by the Church's Papal representative... All legal and acceptable to God...
    This practice sent many people straight to hell...
    "The just shall live by Faith!" (God's Forgiveness is given by Grace and True remorse with repentance!)

      @@dabreal82 It's not like that although some would like it to be. I read through all of the verses by Nostradamus in the original language and in the ENglish rendition. There is quite a bit of things that are unexplainable. One tends to projet his verses onto the history one knows. But his predictions seem to tun unto 3700 BCE. I think I found what is happening here but that explanation is even more politically incorrect than his predictions themselves. Your remark is the same kind of thing that got us Trump, Brexit, accelerated climate change and lots of other problems: politically correct statements that do not help and only confirm antiquated faulty concepts, I'm sorry to say. but following American and English news has made me extremely sceptical.

      @@jaimequimaime-autrementnon2500 It is stated in the royal physician Héroard’s diary. For example :"…he (Louis) said some new words and phrases that are shameful and unworthy of his upbringing, saying that Papa’s was a lot longer than his, that his was a long as that - showing half the length of his arm.". I can't find the exact quote but he was also put in his father's bed while he was having sex with his mother, and he encouraged toddler Louis to molest little girls. He also whipped him frequently by the time he was 17 months old. Louis XIII ended up a very traumatized man

    • @Nika-xh2el
      @Nika-xh2el 12 дней назад +1

      I've read Heroard's journal, and no, Louis was never "put in his father's bed while he was having sex with his mother."
      Corporal punishment was back then the norm. There is no point in singling out the future Louis XIII. Louis XIV was whipped as a child, as was his son the Grand Dauphin.
      Yes, children in the early modern period were exposed to "adult" language, and there were some things in Louis' upbringing that many would consider rather inappropriate today. But I can assure you that people 400 years from now would find many things we do "repulsive" and “appalling.”
      According to the historian A. Lloyd Moote, Henri IV and others in the dauphin's entourage often acted caringly to help the future Louis XIII learn about his future complex role and to "redirect the heir from self-centeredness toward respect for others". There are enough descriptions in Heroard's journal that show Louis as a happy child in a supportive environment (see Madeleine Foisil).
      We can assume that there were both supportive and unpleasant elements in Louis' upbringing. But these are our modern judgments which make little if any sense regarding the 16th and 17th centuries.
      People in those days thought, felt, acted, and reacted very differently than most people do today.
      So many things common to that era seem repulsive to our modern tastes. Just think of a very young girl marrying a man 40 years her senior. Or a king ordering his wife to be executed on grounds of her alleged infidelity.
      The world back then was full of violence that would horrify us. The death penalty was the established punishment for a long array of crimes. People were tortured and burned at the stake because they were considered heretics.
      In short, the laws, customs, and socio-cultural norms were very different from ours. For this reason alone, attempts to judge this distant past and its people by modern standards will never work. A serious researcher knows that modern standards should never be applied to the analysis of the past.

    Honestly wish the two faiths could be combined with the parts of both faiths that are correct and true. Christ WAS/IS the son of God and the holy child sent to save us from sin Just as Catholics claim. HOWEVER A man/woman (INCLUDING THE POPE himself) who is ordained as a member of their area's clergy IS NOT above anyone based on that ordination. Protestants are also right in their idea that we're supposed to worship GOD himself not the saints and def. not their images, but I think the Catholic idea of having that system is also a great idea because it sets a standard for people of how they should behave whether their goal is to be canonized as a saint themselves or to just have a standard of good behavior that they can strive for.
