Benidorm is a small, built-up area which generates huge income and thousands of jobs - it's tourists aren't depriving Spaniards of housing.

I was considering Spain but after taking in a lot of information, some of that from this channel, I changed my mind. I'm very happy with S.A. giving consideration to many factors we're all dealing with.

25 years ago i worked in Benidorm during the summer - absolute hell! Impossible to rent a flat due to the low low wages / high rent. There were 11 of us in a small 2-bed flat. I was on my feet 12+hours a day with little breaks. Young and exploited! Never again! Hope its changed for workers now though!!

When I was a child in the 1950 we always had spam and other days raw tripe with vinegar. Many of the kids had condensed milk on bread or Marge and sugar sandwiches. I was fortunate to have school meals at one shilling a day. I would hate it when they served tapioca which we all called frog spawn.

I love how you keep the balance in the news (politics, environmental, protests). In ref to how much all the $ tourists bring into the country, I tried to be an adult to do my own research on how much illegal immigration costs the Spanish taxpayers each year. Strangely I couldn’t find it anywhere. So folks will protest against prosperity, but not about their future funding being taken up by those who’ve not earned it? Or are the citizens being kept in the dark?

The Spaniards do not want a wild EXCESS of tourists. Regarding agriculture, Spain is a highly developed country in water management, it has a transfer between rivers of 300 kilometers, in the driest areas of the south, it is irrigated drop by drop with control of temperature and humidity controlled by computer. And in addition, Spain has 756 desalination plants. In addition to tourism, the Spaniards also work in the chemical, naval, renewable, automotive, health, defense, mechanical, etc. industry sectors. Although the British prefer to stay with Spain in 1964, today, Spain is the 4th economy of the European Union and a highly developed country, despite the fact that the British believe that 50 million Spaniards eat thanks to them.

I can understand your aversion to Benidorm however the area that gets the attention is the Levante Beach area. The next beach, Poinente Beach is more family oriented and quieter than the Little Britain Levante Beach area. Its also known as the Las Vegas of Spain. The towns of Albir, Denia, Polop, Gandia, Altea, Poinente Beach and South towards Alicante, all worth a visit and more authentic and residential with great sandy beaches!!! Finestrad is more new builds but has a few interesting points of venue.

Hola stu and guests. It turns out change has come to the uk via the elections. Regarding immigrants to spain, i remember the news of high unemployment becoming much lower. I wonder was that lower unemployment number being the result of counting unemployed spaniards or the number of filled jobs? If it’s the number of jobs filled, then perhaps they were filled by illegal immigrants. A false positive, maybe.

Absolutely agree about cash, it is uninsurable and costs money to pay it into the bank. The charges to the vendor for card payments is 0.2 % far cheaper than paying in cash. Contactless is also more hygenic and, in my opinion should be mandatory when paying for foodstuffs. Plus, what do you with all those eurocents that nobody wants ?

Immigration issues there are similar to the USA. We have on the right of politics clamoring for military guarding the border. And propaganda by the right that the left wants open borders. Truth is somewhere in the middle. Nothing gets done because the "Right" are vocal, but really don't want the supply of cheap labor to dry up. Doesn't make sense to me Central and South Americans making expensive and dangerous illegal crossings into the USA when they could legally come to Spain.
