      I would never buy used headphones, it's disgusting .. like buying a used toothbrush or used underpants or socks. The sebum excreted from the sebaceous glands concentrate behind the ears (hence granny telling you to wash behind your ears) and soaks into the padding. There is also a range of fungal infections that are transmissible. I might consider in ear headphones .. if ..if they came with new silicone plugs, and only if !

      Why don't you compare them to professional headphones(which are 3 times cheaper)?
      Try to use dt990Pro with a good sound card and you will see how it compares in quality.
      I use dt990 pro daily for years and they are to me the best what i can find.
      Yes, they do not have noise isolation but the sound is really good compared to closed-back headphones.

    I own both the APM and the XM5 .... both are excellent sounding and their ANC is top notch. The three reasons why I prefer the XM5 over the APX are: 1) the relative weight and comfort, 2) the custom equalizer, and 3) battery life and drain when not in use. Other than overall build quality being better on the APM, I see no real advantage of the APM over the XM5. Obviously the choice of premium headphones is a personal one and being entrenched in the Apple eco system, it was hard for me to favor the XM5s. But after careful thought, this is my conclusion about which of these cans I would recommend. One comment about the Max Tech review (which was quite good), the reference to the reduced volume on the XM5 was something that I have not experienced. Both get very loud and I rarely ever need to adjust either of them above 50% for my listening needs.

      Transparency mode is another advantage of the APM over the XM5s. And that's the horrible thing about being in the Apple ecosystem, you're bound to Apple's choices which can be a gamble.

      @@emadahmed7145 i am deep into the Apple eco system, but I don’t own any Apple headphones and I don’t need too. Compared too the Sony XM4 the only plus of the APM was the build quality and better quality with calls but that doesn’t weigh up to the weight and discomfort. The hinge of the xm4 was a weak spot though that caused for many users problems. The XM5 is build much better though. With headphones durable plastic is much to prefer over aluminium. It’s important that headphones are comfortable to wear. Sound quality wise the Sony models were / are better with music, the APM better with calls. For me headphones performance with music is more important over calls, but that can be different for other people. Anyway, with calls I prefer buds and only use headphones for incoming calls when listening to music.

      How about surround sound, only APM can do that right? Sony seem like only certain way able to use it? Is surround sound a thing to consider if you going to watch movie and listen to music at highest possible quality with it?
      Give me your APM then if you not going to use it anymore ;)

    • @leokuiper2593
      @leokuiper2593 2 года назад +6

      @@NetvoTV The APM has spatial audio, but because of a very limited library for spatial audio that’s pretty much a gimmick for now. Real surround sound is not possible with two channel audio. I listened to spatial audio on my speakers and it made music more spacious. The big disadvantage of spatial audio however is very thin bass. Spatial audio therefore is not something I will listen to. It doesn’t sound natural to me.

  • @lancekowalski9674

    I have both the AirPods Max and XM5. I’ve done extensive A/B testing of all my favorite classical and jazz reference tracks and consistently find that the XM5 makes the instruments sound more natural / realistic (true to life). Whether it’s piano, cello, violin, brass… you can picture the instrument right in front of you, whereas the APM is less so and more just like a great sounding recording. Having said that, the APM does sound really great and has plenty of its own merits. The sound stage does seem to open up more on the APM - more airy. While the instruments sounded less natural on the APM that’s only relative to the XM5. The APM truly sounds great. Add in its other merits like excellent build and great integration and experience with iPhone and all things considered it’s really just as compelling as the XM5.
    I’ve compared iPhone + APM, iPhone + XM5 and Galaxy + XM5 (LDAC) and the sound gets more natural and realistic in that order.
    Don’t fret over which one you should get - you won’t be missing out and should be really pleased whichever of the two you get!
    Edit: I just discovered how to turn off the noise filters on the APM without just toggling between them, and while my previous ranking still holds true, with the noise filters off the APM sounds *much* closer to the organic, realistic sound experienced on the XM5. Close enough that it no longer falls short of my expectations listening to classical and jazz; so I’ve decided to keep them! It’s exciting because I really loved the build and user experience of the APM and SQ was the only reason they were going back to the store this weekend.

    With the microphone samples, the volume was clearly different. Maybe next time it would be nice if you'd set them both at the same volume, since the volume of sounds greatly influence our perception. Just like with brightness in pictures, tests have shown that if you show them brighter images of one camera compared to the other, they'll almost always say that they look better.
    However, volume can be changed, so in side-by-side comparisons, they should be about equal to be able to compare the other details.

    I've had both headphones. If you wear glasses, the cushion material of the xm5 can creak in your ear when moving your head. The volume control is just bad, making a lot of swiping movements for a small volume change. The xm5 quickly looks dirty. The control buttons for on/off and noise canceling are the same, so you sometimes choose the wrong one. If you leave the headphones for a while and want to use them again, you have to turn them back on. Reasons for me to choose the Airpods Max. Because the ear cushion material is artificial leather, it quickly feels warm. It is also almost impossible to replace when it becomes obsolete. You can wash the ear cushions of the Airpods.

    @thomasnewsom6084 2 года назад +22

    I agree with part of what you said but since headphones are very subjective given head shape, hearing capability and taste, I thought I would add some thoughts.
    I have the Sony XM3, 4 and 5 as well as the Airpods Max. I also have headphones that go into the $4000 and $10,000 range. I find that the Airpods Max are a better quality sound competing with headphones into the $800 range. As far as weight goes plastic is always going to be lighter than metal. Having said that it is really not about absolute weight in all cases as the design and fit on the head either distributes weight correctly or it doesn't. I'm "hair challenged" so I am sensitive to headbands and the way the touch the head. For me the Sony XM5 is better than the XM3 and 4's but still sits on the head in such a way that I notice it more compared to the Airpods Max. I Don't find the Airpods Max heavy enough to bother me at all even wearing the for long periods.
    To be able to see the characteristics of headphones you need to pair them with a good DAC and Amp to really know what is going on. If you are simply going to listen with Bluetooth in wireless mode, then it mostly won't matter to some degree because Bluetooth limis youe capability.
    As for noise cancelling, the Airpods Max do it better than anything I have tried for any cost. The XM5's are getting closer but do not beat them. If you are using an Android phone to test, you need to make sure on and Apple device that all modes (3) are enabled so that you get Noise Cancellation, Transparency and Off Modes. Once set these will remain even when you are using it on an Android. In Noise Cancellation mode they are quieter than the XM5's. In Transparency mode they essentially go away so that a person talking with you sounds normal and not like a veil is thrown over them as some sound.
    Don't get me wrong the XM5's are a nice headphone and for some who like more of an accentuated bass sound, they are great. The problem now is that if you are in the Apple eco system at some of the current sale prices, the Airpods Max can be had for $429 and the XM5's are at about $400. That's just not enough separation for the difference. If you are Android you lose some functions with the Airpods Max but all the basics are still there and the quality doesn't go away. I hope this perspective helps.

      Are you serious lol! You have 10000 dollar headphones..They must be audiophile headphones right? Apple sounds trash! Have you seen it's sound graph and how less headphone like it sounds? And it doesn't have equaliser! Can you wear them for over half an hour?
      No arguing the sony is far far better! Also android users aren't dumb users, they are power users.. do you think they will ever go for an impractical heavy equaliser less and basic feature less headphone? Never!!

First the sound control button would fail then after some time they would fail completely. When they were working I had to force restart them multiple times a week just to get them to work at all. After the 5th failure I went to the Apple store and got my money back. I went back to my Bose 700 and after 2 years I have never had even 1 problem with them. The APM sounds great, but i don't think they better than the XM5 + from what I heard in call quality the sony got your voice almost sounded as same as the microphone used in this video but it was lower, meanwhile the APM sounded very loud but with very different voice (less clear).
